February 12, 20223 yr Where would he play in Gannon’s defense? Would he play the Avery role? The Edwards role? Both?

Drafting all of the UGA players still won’t make Gannon a good defensive coordinator. I do like Trayvon Walker and Gardner. I wonder if Zion Johnson might be a better pick than Strong.

Even the Maddox contract makes sense for a top 5 slot CB. He has done a really good job starting to clean up the mess he created. Nothing wrong with admitting that even if people don't like the guy. With 3 firsts and a solid FA group this year at some positions of need (WR/DB), 2022 is a big test that he has to pass though.

He and Bonitto are 2 guys I'm interested in from a pure "what's their role in the NFL going to be?" POV. I think both have a shot at being really good in the right scheme.

Not sure what it really means in the grand scheme of things, but when Drake London was in single coverage he was getting peppered with targets. He also finished fourth in yards per route run vs man coverage (obviously getting targeted relentlessly helps). This is based off the 2021 season. Not soo surprising about huge Drake London being up there. He just uses his long arms to catch everything whether he is open or not. It really confirms what you see when you watch Bell though. That guy is just always open. Alec Pierce is really good too. Somehow Im not impressed by Tolbert. And I have had an aversion to watching the OSU guys. I still remember Olave coming up small against Alabama last year, and Wilson just came out of nowhere so I dont trust him either.

I could have had Pitre there but I really dont want another year of Hurts so I took the QB and assumed we would try to fix safety in free agency. Blankenship is a nice pick later on but I wouldnt want to count on him stepping right in as a starter.

But I havent watched him like I have watched Beavers an Bonitto yet.

He seems like more of a SLB/OLB prospect than a MLB. Some of the scouting reports on him describe him as looking lost in coverage at times which may mean he’s not going to be seen as a fit for a zone scheme. https://www.the33rdteam.com/draft-central/2022/prospect-rankings/player?playername=Darrian-Beavers Maybe a good fit for an Avery replacement.

I’d say Howie saved a ton of money on Mailata and a little bit on Sweat. The Maddox deal still seems like an overpay to me, and I would have been fine letting him walk at market value. We’ll find out more about Sweat/Maddox when comparable players sign in FA. I was very much against the Mailata, Sweat, and Goedert extensions. I still think, in general, it’s best to sign players immediately after their contract expires. There’s a reason players don’t like to do that. But so far, those extensions have all been good.

February 12, 20223 yr I think this draft should have excellent DE value in the teens for our picks. I don’t think there is reason to trade up for the marginal benefit of the top 2 DEs. Our center of the future may well be in that range for us as well. The second round should be prime range for a fast WR who can replace Reagor. The last 1st round pick should either be traded into 2023 or used to draft a qb…depending on your opinion of the qbs. Go defense with the rest of the draft.

Kelce has made a guy like Linderbaum more valuable. The formula is in: athletic, nimble center with larger, bruising guards on either side. If he does fall I'd either take him or field the trade offers for him. There should be several
February 12, 20223 yr If Kelce returns, sign me up for Cam Jurgens in the mid rounds. He’s not ready to play this year, but he has a lot of tools to work with.

Who gets more growth on the bench, a polished prospect or a developmental one?
