Do we know if Howie made an offer but was hung up on because Wilson didn't want to come here?

Nothing came out about it, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they gauged Wilson’s interest first and then didn’t bother making an offer since it would be pointless.

Would Wagner be a good fit here?

Can imagine he'll draw quite the interest in FA.

He’d be a great fit but with the state of the roster and QB it would be a waste

I have a personal sense that morality is not entirely measured by personal preferences. We would not have laws or commandments were this not true. We’re getting into Locke, Rousseau, Hobbes, territory. Maybe Plato, as I think on it. Many religions.

Socrates, Descartes, and I say no to Watson. My associates aside, I cannot root for such a scumbag. I would not root for another team but I would wish disaster upon the Eagles. Getting Watson would be a Faustian bargain.

I walked away from the Eagles for two years when they signed Vick. Perhaps I take my sense of morality too seriously but there it is.

To this day, I think of Vick as a good guy.  I hated Vick more than most until the day he went to jail.  He did something horrible and he served his time (arguably more than his time).  I never buy any of the BS athletes, celebrities, politicians, etc push in front of a camera.  When Vick had his news conference after this story broke, I bought his.

I think he was very genuinely contrite and changed who he was.  This is also the black guy that personally reached out to Riley Cooper and saved his career and reputation.

I have a very high opinion of Vick.

Now, on the flip side, I have a very low opinion of the average NFL player.  There are so many scumbags we don't even know about on a roster of 53 over-privileged children who have spent the last several years of their lives adjusting to having their egos stroked and pursuing every one of their self interests without impediment.  The primary difference with Watson is that we can't unring the bell of knowing that he's a scumbag.

Jeez, look at Mcnabb...serial DUIs, his transcripts with his female colleague, the ticket for parking in handicapped spaces...we know the dude is a scumbag after cheering for him for years (well, maybe booing too).  He may not be as bad as Watson, but where do we draw the line on who we can root for?

Believe it or not, I wrestle with that question too.  Every fan wants to cheer for players they admire.  Human nature.  But the more you know about them in the social media age, the harder it usually becomes.

A pro-Hurts musing:

If elite QB's are going to cost $50m per year and OK QB's are going to cost $30m, are we lucky that we have a crappy QB?😂

I don't think it's fair to assume anything just yet for Watson. I'd wait until after we learn everything before we determine whether or not he sucks as a person

Seattle is smart. Tank for a QB next year and load up on picks.

The crap QB on a rookie deal is better than the mediocre one at $25+ million. It's why Hurts over Wentz was an absolute no brainer in my opinion, 1 season of dead money hell be damned.

This flew under the radar today, but that Mike Williams deal was 🗑️🗑️🗑️. $20 million a year for that guy?!

Thats my reasoning for the theory on drafting a QB every year in the 3rd to 6th round to increase your chances on a hit. Even when you hit you keep drafting a QB so when one QB wants that massive contract after the 3rd year you have others in the mix to take over and trade away the successful QB for bookoo picks.

The true QB Factory.

Interesting to hear that we had a formal offer on the table.

As some of us knew, he was never going to come here. Not sure why people refused to grasp that.

The anti Philly propaganda in full force I see.

Eagles are middle tier, at best, for a celebrity QB picking their destination.

The OL is a great pull.  The weapons are potentially OK, but mostly unproven and below-average until proven otherwise.  And the city is a place most people don’t want to be.

It’s not hard to believe that he didn’t want to play here.

So two first round picks, two second round picks, Noah Fant, and Drew Lock for Russell Wilson, and four years 200 million for Aaron Rodgers 🤔

And Hurts swagger in a pear tree.

Grab Bobby Wagner. Perfect for philly. Old LB in the downswing

The propaganda is in that "he didn't want to play in Philly." If he preferred to play on the Broncos, then it's not he didn't want to play in Philly, but he wanted to play in Denver. If the only two teams interested in him were the Eagles and Lions, then you wouldn't have heard "he didn't want to play in Philly" instead it would've been he didn't want to play in Detroit. It's all about how it is framed. People frame it in an anti-Philly way, which is typical of propagandists.

The Eagles are a top tier destination. Top 5 market, stable organization with good ownership, great fans, with a winning culture. Of course players would die to come here. There just may be other places they prefer. I can't blame him Denver has a more talented roster and I'm sure Seattle preferred to deal him out of the NFC and Wilson didn't wanna do them dirty like that.

Over $17 million/year for Landry, damn.

Who's in the bargain bin at DE this year?

Spotrac got Landry’s value about right; they had it at $17.1M AAV

They have Charles Harris from the Lions at $8.5M.  He’s 27 and had 7.5 sacks last season.  He might be a worthwhile Eagles target without breaking the bank.

Otherwise, they have Hassan Reddick estimated at $15.3M per season

Edge rushers will cost too much in free agency. I see them attacking WR and S in free agency. They should put their focus on DE in the draft with one in the first round and maybe another at some point on day three.

Watson will be an Eagle by next week. You know Howie hates losing at the craps table. 2 firsts, Dillard and Hurts. Done.

Wilson just told a Washington reporter last week he prefers to stay out west when the guy asked him directly if he’d be willing to go to the Commanders.

Ogbah. Projected 13 mil. I’d give him 5-70

I agree. Howie is probably sweating and pacing right now to get his name out there with something big after what happened today.

Whoever started "Eagles first for DK” needs to stop. Would be horrendous.
