White male landowners used these rights to subjugate the rights of everyone else. Even though nowadays it sounds absurd, for hundreds of years, American slavery was justified as having a biblical basis...

After the Civil War, when slavery was no longer acceptable, Jim Crow laws and segregation took over with another veil of religious freedom and religious liberty justifications. It was in Plessy v. Ferguson in 1896 that the Supreme Court upheld the "separate but equal” doctrine that had been used to support segregation and Jim Crow laws. The "separate but equal” doctrine was based on a biblical interpretation that the races were not supposed to "mix.” Again, religious freedom and religious liberty were used to justify the actions of the group in power...

This law regarding healthcare is completely political and has no practical effect from what I can see.

The government is not currently compelling doctors to perform any procedures against their will, and never has. And outside of requiring treatment of ER patients when receiving government funds, and of course civil rights laws requiring doctors not to discriminate based on protected class, no doctor is being forced to see any patients.

My oldest boys were delivered at a Catholic hospital. This hospital, and the OB-GYN my wife was seeing which was attached to the hospital, specifically did not provide certain treatments that "go against" Catholic doctrine such as prescribing birth control or even performing tubal ligations after caesarian births.

Hospitals and health providers have long been able to operate according to their own codes of ethics, many derived from religious beliefs.

All this law is doing is setting up a stupid strawman to knock down. It's trying to paint this image that liberals are somehow holding doctors hostage and forcing them to perform sex change operations on 10-year-olds. Then DeSantis can hold it up and say "see, I protected you from the boogeyman!" even though the boogeyman doesn't exist.

It's pure politics, nothing more.

Or maybe it has something to do with the cost-cutting moves that Disney announced back in February?

Quote

The latest round of job cuts will impact ESPN, Disney's entertainment division, Disney Parks, and its Experiences and Product division as part of a larger workforce reduction plan announced in February by chief executive Bob Iger in an aim to save $5.5 billion in costs, the company said. The company had suspended its dividend payments during the pandemic, but Iger announced in February that he expects them to return.

Step one: create an economy that's so bad that dozens of the biggest corporations announce massive layoffs

Step two: Get the dishonest media to loosely link the cost cutting moves at Disney to their ongoing feud with Desantis to damage him politically.

Step three (easiest step): Get mentally ill liberals like toolg to believe it without question.

You do realize people from CA had already moved to FL and now have the option to move back now.

No. That's not what the Disney chairman said.

Quote

Citing "changing business conditions” and the return of CEO Bob Iger, Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney’s parks, experiences and products division, penned a memo to employees Thursday, announcing that the company will not move forward with construction of the campus and will no longer be asking more than 2,000 California-based employees to relocate to Florida.

The February announcement was about layoffs.

This is the cancellation of a project because Florida has suddenly become specifically hostile to Disney.

Action have consequences. DeSantis just cost the state thousands of jobs and over the life of that expansion probably billions in tax revenue.

You'll never convince Kz of this fact.

Get based, go broke.

You hate to see it.

I hate when people say "WARSHington".

Wait so DeSantis gets to stand up against grooming and he avoids 2,000 Californians infesting his state? My man is playing 4D chess.

You forgot losing billions in tax revenue that could be used for oh I don't know, education, infrastructure, other actual tangible useful things.  But of course that's not important, only owning the libs is.  The state is is disarray, other companies taking note but hey at least a few people from CA didn't move there! And hey, not like the cost of living in florida hasn't doubled in the last year with insurance rates skyrocketing and insurance companies leaving the state, at least he owned the libs!

I know you'll try to spin anything but this is just pathetic now. DeSantis just massively screwed Florida for years to come.

Florida doesn't need that billion.

They need saving from books and the gays.

I am sad to report that the Devon exit off the turnpike in PA has not had the 'n' spray painted out in years. For decades the sign always said 'Devo'

Of course, as effed up as PA is, it is no FLA.
