Unfortunately, beat reporters are more editorial opinion writers than reporting the facts anymore.  There is no better example of that then ESP.

This goes back to what I said yesterday. There are Hurts fanboys (ESP, Reuben Frank, etc) who want Hurts to be good so they take everything he does and put a positive spin on it. There are beats that aren't a fan of Hurts (Kempski, BLG, etc) who both really downplayed his performance yesterday. There are some in the middle guys like Berman, who didn't really have anything to say one way or the other. It's just one practice but with the range of points of view, I'm guessing nothing much has changed with him.

I posted it on here a couple weeks back. The Saints just have an unreal stetch of schedule that would crush a good team, let alone a bad with led my Winston and a new coach.

Cliff notes of the stretch...Vikings In London(L), no time off,  Seattle(W)  Cinnci(L) In Ariona, on a short week(L), Baltimore(L) In Pittsburgh(L), Rams (L) In San Fran(L) At Tampa(L)

Let's give these games some context

Vikings ( London ) - it's still Kirk Cousins, and the Saints defense will still be top 10 - W

Seattle - will be coming off a trip to Detroit, so back to back east coast trips, and the have Drew Lock / Geno Smith at QB - W

Cinci - loss, but it is in New Orleans so you never know - L

Arizona - also a short week for Arizona coming off a trip to Seattle - L

Las Vegas - not sure why you skipped this game - W

Baltimore - will have extra time to prepare, but will be coming off a beating at the hands of Tampa Bay - W

@ Pittsburgh - possibly rusty coming off the by week and looking ahead to the Bengals - L

Rams - coming off a divisional game and go to Kansas City the following week - L

@ 49ers - 2nd of 4 straight home games - W

@ Tampa Bay - this is the week before the Saints bye, and Tom Brady is winless against the Saints as the TB starter, and has been outscored 47-3 in Tampa - W

Didn't really read about a lot of day one of camp, but apparently the Eagles used Reddick more in coverage than rushing the passer?

I remember that was a minor talking point when they signed him and he was listed as a LB, people wondered if they'd screw with how they use him and not use him as almost exclusively a pass rusher.

No reason to panic in day one of camp, but if this is a theme throughout camp where he's not being used as a pass rusher the far majority of the time, Gannon's shtick is going to tire very quickly with this fan base.

I disagree.  Saints aren't going to be a good team.  Top 10 pick is definitely in play.

Well, I have them going 6-4 through that stretch, they should  go 2-1 before, and 3-1 after the bye, that puts them 11-6

If they go 4-6, still puts them 9-8

Over under for Saints wins in 2022 is 7.5

I am hoping they tank a bit.  Saints pick around #10.

Over under for Eagles wins is 9.5

We beat that if Gannon's D can be more agressive and effective this year.

Eagles make the playoffs again. Eagles pick around #20.

I have them under 10 wins.  If I win, I own your avatar for 2 months.  If they get 10 or more wins, you win and have my avatar for 2 months.

Agreed.

Now that @downundermike agreed to the bet this is where @4for4EaglesNest changes the terms

Inquirer is completely behind a paywall now?  Any kind soul want to throw their coverage up in 411?  Curious about the article about Calcaterra "shining".  It's McLane but ill give it a read if i can

Well this is the exact opposite of what I was talking about with Hurts. We know Reddick can rush the passer, so now is the time for him to work on dropping into coverage to try and get better at a weaker part of his game. It would be a concern if they aren't rushing Reddick against the Lions, but dropping him into coverage now is very smart.

Except they didn't practice hard. Today is day 2 of their TC. The supposedly "safe" way to practice.

Players will still get injured.  I guess we will see if the Eagles are relatively healthy.  It's not like the players are saying that teams aren't practicing enough.

I'm picking the Eagles to go 10-7 and the Saints 8-9.  No Payton, Thomas will never be a top 10 WR again, Kamara suspension, Winston will revert to being Mr. 30/30

The Panthers and Falcons did improve in the offseason but I don't think either of them are better.  Still, Carolina is closer from a talent perspective than they were last season.  Atlanta does not have much on defense but did add some talent.  If Atlanta and Carolina split games with NO, I am not sure the team gets to 8 wins.

@ Falcons - W

vs. Tampa - L

@ Carolina  - L

vs.  Vikings - Possible L

vs. Seattle - W

vs. Bengals - Possible L

@ Cardinals - L

vs. Raiders - Possible L

vs. Ravens - Possible L

@ Steelers - W

vs. Rams - L

@ 49ers - Possible L

@ Tampa - L

vs. Falcons - L

@ Browns - Possible L

@ Eagles - Possible L

vs. Carolina - W

That gives them 4 wins and I don't think that's an unlikely result for them.   I mean arguably an away game at the Steelers is probably a possible Loss. They would have to win 4 of the 7 games that I list as possible losses to get to 8 wins.

Well, what's our bet gonna be?  I propose Hurt's isn't the starter for at least 2 "meaningful" games.  Not counting a tank game at the end of the season because a playoff spot is already locked up.  You in?

Hmmm I'll have to think about it. We'll have to do something and Hurts is probably an easy target for a bet.  Still I don't want to go full RTK on the Hurts train either. Games missed seems too fickle to bet on, especially for something as important as an avatar.

I think Saints struggle to get to 8 wins. Coach isnt as good. Oline isnt as good. Kamara will be suspended. WRs are bigger in name than production at this point in their careers imo. Winston doesnt strike fear to any DC in the league. Defense will probably start strong early in the season but as the season goes on and they see the offense struggling, I dont think they will carry the team two years in a row in the same fashion, especially not having Sean Payton there to keep them playing hard througout the year.

Lol, you forget I think how bad of a HC Dennis Allen was. 8-28 record across 3 seasons. Payton was the difference maker there all these years me thinks.

Jamies Winston has gotten 9 wins one time, but coming off a ACL injury, with a brand new coach with an incredible hard schedule and Downunder thinks he's getting 11

I have them getting at least ten wins.  Difference between me and you, is I am backing it up, and 4for4 and I were able to clearly define terms and agree to a bet.

If you want some of this action @Bacarty2, the 10 game stretch for the Saints that you think is murderers row.

If the Saints have 5 or more wins, you have the avatar of my choice for a month.

If the Saints have 4 or less wins, I have the avatar of your choice for a month.

Do you agree to the terms of this bet.

Pete Carmichael Jr has been the offensive coordinator since 2009.  The only thing that scares me about the bet is a potential Kamara suspension, but still rolling with it.

Who has made that take.  I have seen a bunch of people question Hurts ability to improve, point out his faults, and are ready for the new QB in 2023.

Name one person who has said they want the Eagles to suck.

 Diehardfan has argued that.

I once bet Bomb1984 with the terms that the loser delete their account.  I won.  He reneged.  That was my last EMB bet unless somebody's escrow.

I did want to address why Gannon would have Reddick drop into coverage rather than rush the passer. In non-contact work there's just no point to rushing the passer. Reddick may be asked to drop into coverage a few times this season - zone blitz stuff. Might as well work on it now, before the pads go on.

No, this is just wrong. Having Reddick drop into coverage on the very first day of practice just proves our defensive coordinator sucks. I’m sure of it. It definitely means that he’s going to spend the majority of his time on the field twenty yards from the line of scrimmage and backpedaling rather than rushing the passer, which is his bread and butter as an NFL player.

Best news I heard from TC:

A 3-4 look with Reddick and Sweat as standup rushers and a Hargrave/Davis/Milton Williams DL.

That could cause problems.

Great.  You had to taint this by inviting him into the fold.   How can two people pick you avatar after the same time, dingleberry.

Well, your bet was first, so you get the first two months, then he would follow.

My only question is how can I align two hilarious avatars for you and bacarty to have concurrently.

Lol I think the timing would work out where Bacarty controls his avatar for a month, then you get it for the 2 months after.

Yes, how dare our defensive coordinator create the illusion that Reddick may actually do more than just line up and rush the passer.  The NFL has proven it is easier to succeed when you tell the opponent exactly what you are going to do, with no possible alteration to that plan.

Who were the stand up LBs? White and Dean?

Might see that look in nickel too
