I think the Eagles should sign DeSean as a returner but I doubt they will for chemistry reasons.

It's a waste of money for DeSean to get 2 punt returns in then go on IR for the rest of the season.

The last time DeSean got 2 punt returns in a season was essentially a decade ago

Here are DeSean's year by year Punt Return stats.  It has nothing to do with chemistry.

Covey averaging 6.6 per return.  Desean hasn’t averaged higher since 2011.

Hurts is through his first 6 games, and I said I would try to evaluate in 6-game stretches rather than a knee jerk reaction after each game early in the year.  So, no knee-jerk evaluation -- just jerk evaluation to this point:

123/184, 66.8%, 6 TD passes and 2 INT, 6 TD runs, 77 runs against 184 passes = 41.8% rate runs/passes.  He's been credited with 3 fumbles but those are exchange related (?)

His completion percentage is well above what I predicted for this season, which was 62.8%.  A 3:1 TD/INT ratio is positive, although a bit light in TD passes.  Trending better than last season's 16 TD and 9 INT.  Still don't like the frequency with which he's running -- history says these dual threat (running) QBs don't fare very well at playoff time.

Really good start so far.  Hasn't cost the Eagles any games, nor come close to.  Had some prolific passing stats in Week 2 and 3.  He faced a strong defense Sunday night against DAL and delivered on what I'd hoped -- no turnovers and a clean, if unspectacular, stat line.

Right now, Hurts is 7th in passing yards, 9th in completion percentage, tied for 17th in passing TDs (but the Eagles are 3rd in the NFL with 20 TDs, behind only the Chiefs and Bills) -- and the Eagles are 4th in points-per-game.  All good stuff and a team record of 6-0

77 runs against 184 passes = 29.5% run rate not 41.8%

Both interceptions were tipped passes ... just like Gardner-Johnson's was yesterday.

Covey is doing fine.  The reports of his suckage are greatly exaggerated.  I'd love to upgrade him, but there's no one just sitting out there that's an upgrade.  The Desean Jackson proposal is just folks remembering what he was a long time ago.  He's not that guy anymore.

@TorontoEagle

Saw that as of today you can have Uber Eats deliver pot right to your door in Toronto. Next they need a two for one deal where about an hour later they deliver food for your munchies.

So we are +12 in turnovers. That's at least a few clear of anyone else. Is that sustainable?

Right now they have zero lost fumbles.  All three of the Eagles fumbles are by Hurts and all three have been recovered by the Eagles.  Sustaining a zero fumble lost rate is probably not sustainable, but one forced fumble every other game probably is sustainable.  I put the over/under of lost fumbles for the rest of the year (11 games with 5-6 forced fumbles) at 2.

Hurts only has 2 INTs ... one every 3 games ... which is sustainable IMO.  That would give him 5-6 INTs for the season.

Your question really revolves around whether the Eagles D can sustain a rate of 1.5 interceptions per game ... and 1 fumble recovery per game.  My gut feel is the answer to both those questions is yes as long as the Eagles continue their pattern of taking the lead on the scoreboard during the 1st half of each game.

Staley bailed out by a great catch.

And playing some really bad teams... with bad QBs.

It's still only 6 games, they may be keeping it simple for Davis early in the season, and that limits what they do on defense with him in the game.

The bye week is when you self-scout and make adjustments.  We'll see.

I think that’s likely but it was concerning.

At the rate we got there, I’d say probably not. Turnovers always seem to vary or come in bunches but eventually regress. The next closest team is +4.

I could see a scenario where the Eagles end up playing only the NFC East in the NFC playoffs.

He's been fine. He catches the ball and takes the yards available. He was fine last night.

Do you want fine or do you want what the Cowboys returner was able to do?  Just like I want more passes longer than 5 yards, I want more PR that are more than fair catches or 4 yards.

I find it really interesting to watch all the people who aren't speaking but have various roles. The hand signs and pointing and sheets of paper and stuff. It's pretty cool how much of a team effort it is.

Oh it's wild.  All of the spotters they have.  They have them for player names, stats, advertising plugs and more.  I never knew how much went in to the radio production until they started sharing these videos.  It's a 3 hour non-stop circus.  They really don't have time to breath.

It's less about the Colts and more about the Commies wasting their 2nd round pick on him

Who do we want to win tonight?

Where has this Denver offense been?

Russel Wilson looks like his old self, at least so far.

What’s everyone’s take on Gannon so far?

Obviously he has much better personnel to work with, but is he maximizing their talents? I’ve been a little frustrated with the lack of use of Davis, but I may also be seeing Davis as much better than he is now. I even noticed he was never out there on 4 man fronts, and I’m no expert by any means so other teams and have definitely picked up on it.

I feel the DBs are playing at a pretty high level, but we still lack a consistent pass rush and the run defense is spotty at times.

A couple of months ago I predicted the Eagles would have the best defense in-the NFL by week 10. I still believe it. Mock me all you like. Many have.

They are playing well.  The tackling needs to improve, though.

They are susceptible to runs when they are lining up with four DL.  That happens a lot when we are protecting the lead.  You saw it last night and against Detroit.  I would like to see them start to use Davis in those sets and not just have him play the nose in their 5-man fronts.

Hopefully they see this and will come up with a solution during the bye.

Ah, nice to see Singleton loading the stat sheet with empty tackles.

I calculate it as percentage of runs against passes; even if you wish to calculate it the other way it’s likely twice the rate it should be.
