Day games until the WS are not new.

What's new is the compressed schedule.  No day off between games 5 and 6.

It changes the nature of the competition.  Your game 3 starter would have only 3 days of rest before game 7.  No off day for the bullpen to reset.  Long, overnight trip after game 5 and playing the next day.

We'll see what happens.  But I doubt they will continue with this format next year.

Its always been a top heavy league though. Every decade there are generally 2 dominant teams and at least 1 of those teams win multiple championships and a dynasty is formed.

Yep, just looked at last year to be sure, game 3 NLCS Braves at Dodgers had a 2:08 PST start time.

They added a wildcard team and expanded the format from a 1-game play-in to a 3-game series.  Those two days are being recaptured by eliminating a day off in the NLDS and NLCS.

Also because of the lockout delay, the 3 games in Houston were played at the end of the season rather than the 1st 3 games which pushed everything back. Those 2 Wild Card games versus the Cards were supposed to be on the nights the Phillies played in Houston. 

Looking back, it's been pretty amazing how each Phillies win has featured a different position player with a pivotal contribution.

NLWC Game 1: Segura knocks in two in the ninth.
NLWC Game 2: Harper's HR gets us on the board first.
NLDS Game 1: Castellanos with three RBIs and the catch in the ninth.
NLDS Game 3: Hoskins' epic HR.
NLDS Game 4: Marsh' HR.
NLCS Game 1: Schwarber's moonshot.  (Don't dismiss the fear that put into Padres pitchers for the rest of the series.)

The main culprit is the lockout. That delayed the start of the season by a week so now MLB is trying to condense everything so they aren't playing baseball in the snow.

Yeah it’s been like this for a while. Usually they’ll start one LCS a day before the other. Then when both are playing the following day usually the LCS with game 1 usually is the one that gets the night game and the LCS with game 2 gets the late afternoon game. But been known to switch it. It usually reverses when it’s game 4 in one and game 3 in the other LCS. When the giants and Phillies squared off in 2010 we had a late afternoon east coast time/ day game west coast in game 3.

We actually have a day game in game 5 at 2:37 est. Unless the series is tied at 2, I can’t remember the last time there was a nlcs potential series clincher that was a day game.

Yup this comes down to the delay in the start of the season. They don’t want to play too deep into November and get caught with a 2008 type situation where the weather halts the series for a day or two or is a bigger factor in the series. Granted if in houston the dome prevents that for 4 possible games and if it’s San Diego the weather isn’t really a factor 

However, if they need a game 6 in the nlcs, you are traveling from Philly all the way to San Diego with no day off. That is a far travel with no off day. Add on in the National League, since you started it on Tuesday, you could give them a day off after game 5 on that Monday, play on Tuesday and Wednesday but still start the World Series on Friday like they want to. The issue is the American League because they’re starting on Wednesday. They can’t give them a day off after game five and expect to start it on Friday. Game 5, 6 and 7 are monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If you took Tuesday as an off day in alcs then you have game 6 and 7 Wednesday and Thursday. Unless they’re willing to have either of the Astros or Yankees start game one of the World Series the day after winning the ALCS.

Look I get it Philly is passionate about their sports teams and they all support each other which is great and I have zero issues with the Phillies, or the sixers( unless they're playing the jazz) or the flyers and not everybidy that are eagles fans support the other 3 teams.
