EMB Blog: 2022 Regular Season (and beyond?) - NO POLITICS

Featured Replies

I gotta say I have never been a big fan of baseball and hardly ever watch. I couldnt tell you a thing about the intricacies of baseball. However seeing the excitement  once the Phillies reached the playoffs I have been keeping up with them. I root for all teams Philadelphia. Things changed for me though once I saw Hoskins throw down that bat. That was something different. I feel like that launched this team to a different realm and created 30 for 30 vibes lol. The crowds at these games have been unreal and just shows that no fan base compares to a dedicated and passionate Philly crowd when they are all in. I have been enjoying reading the posts in here during the games and seeing the excitement of people who actually know baseball too. If the Phillies win this thing I feel like that will give the Eagles that much more confidence and Philly in general will just be on a different level.

Where are you getting your Dead Cap numbers.  Spotrac has next year's Dead Cap at $27,389,571.  That is "north of $27 million" not "north of  $50 million."  Spotrac has 2024's Dead Cap at $0 not $30 million.  OverTheCap has similar numbers, $28,294,034 for next year and $0 for 2024.

I have actually had a pretty lengthy email exchange with Jason at over the cap, and he verified all my numbers are correct.

@mattwill never received a response to my last.  I can give  you the link to my google spreadsheet if you like.

Baseball is unusual in that...playoff baseball...IMO, is actually unpleasant to watch when your team is in the field.  It's like watching a loved one swim across a shark infested river.  Edge of your seat?  Sure.  But sometimes you'd rather just close your eyes and fast forward.

America doesn't care about baseball.  It's not 1998 anymore.

Have to disagree here, maybe viewership is down with the younger generation, but I think the "older heads" still care and follow, especially when the economic and political landscape is a trashcan. Also, I think people LOVE an underdog story. This city represents the underdog, better than any other and I've lived here all of my life.

Anyone else have that remix of a cover of a Swedish gay disco anthem stuck in their head today? Just me?

I’m here in the corner…

Yeah, what I really like about this opportunity is the "David vs. Goliath" situation here. In '08, the Rays were not a team that came with an imposing aura; it didn't feel like running into a juggernaut, and you had to like the Phillies chances from the outset. But the chance to take down a perennially elite team, and ones who were recently scandalized to boot, is really the chance to do something legendary.

Maybe not America, but Philadelphia sure does.

Until next season rolls around and then most of that fanbase will be ignoring the Phillies again until whenever they make the playoffs again.

The Phillies were my first love. F Joe Carter.

The only reason I watch football more closely is it’s 1/10th of the games. Individual games count way more.

I am however looking forward to the rules changes next year in MLB.

93, 08, 22…teams just full of likeable dudes who LOVE playing here.

Dude it’s a 162 game season. Impossible to be as hyped up for all those games as opposed to 17 for the NFL. Seriously how has YOUR trolling arse not been given a 2 week vacation yet? Shouldn’t have even let you back in here when the site moved.

Meh, people can only stretch themselves so wide. We only have so much time and energy that we can commit to the teams. Being truly four-for-four in terms of emotional investment and time dedication just isn't possible for many folks, and baseball is just such a long, grueling season. So, while I always follow the Phillies, it's often casually or from afar through the dog days, but it doesn't mean I care any less, same for the Sixers. Between football and hockey, like 90% of my evenings and a good portion of my weekends are normally occupied for over half the year. I mean, I do have a life to live, lol. Although, I haven't even bothered to watch the Flyers this year, mostly because I thought they'd be horrible and I hate their ownership, but at this point, I'm content to let them keep winning while I'm caught up the Eagles and Phillies and start tuning in next week.

On top of it all, though, I really can't blame the fans for shutting this team off in recent years. Unless you've been following them, you can't appreciate just how awful the Phillies were during the last decade. But the Phillies have always been big in this town. They've been heavily supported throughout their existence. The fans will flock, you just gotta give them something to cheer for. It's a proud city, and when a team is underperforming so dramatically, the only real way the fans can voice their displeasure and exercise leverage is by staying home and tuning out.

I'm glad the Phillies are doing well and I hope they beat those cheating Astros, I don't follow baseball at all, last world series I saw was I think 2007? when I was in SF and the whole city was Giants crazy and the niners sucked.

Before that the last one I had watched was maybe the Diamond backs with the Big Unit, or maybe caught a glimpse of the cubbies winning.

Not really a baseball fan, I'll watch it if I need a nap, but hey go Phillies!!!

If anyone should get a 2 week suspension it's the rest of you and the rest of your goon squad.

Dude is so desperate for attention he comes up with new nonsense to try and get a response.

To bad anyone who responds to him owns him so bad, he has to put them on ignore.

Looking at this post below from the Phillies first playoff game, and all your subsequent posts, you have been trolling about the Phillies non stop.

I gotta agree with @Outlaw, while this is an Eagles board, most folks here are 4for4.  Know where you are.

Love to see the Phillies lose.  The sooner they disappear from any sports radio talk and it goes to full on Eagles and Sixers the better.

Thanks.

I'm not a massive fan of baseball, but it is good to see the Phillies do well - even if it's to shut up some of the local media using their same old Phillies/Eagles/Flyer/Sixers dysfunction story

I love his no one will care about them after this year until the make the playoffs again. Meanwhile he boasts the sixers like fans cared about them for a 10+ year window where their attendance was just as bad as the Phillies until they got good

the sixers weren’t exactly killing it with attendance from 08-17. even before the process when they were a fringe playoff team they had lousy attendance. So his argument could be said for the sixers

Here's what I have for tomorrow night. I'm fairly certain someone quoted me their prediction but I wasn't at my laptop and I can't find it anymore.

@LeanMeanGM

Eagles 27

Texans 23

Eagles do not score in the second half, Texans score 2 TD's to make it close, but Eagles are already on the plane home at halftime.

@LeanMeanGM

This is a bad matchup.  A Thursday night game on the road, you have the team with the best record going up a team with the worst record. This should be a blow out on any normal sunday, but it's a Thursday game on the road, at the same time a World Series game is going on where the Phills may be trying to bring it all home (if they win tonight)

Lots of distractions, how will the team respond?

It wouldn't surprise me if the Eagles struggle to win this game. Like they have enough miscues to make it harder than it should be, and the Texans pull out all the stops because they have nothing to lose. Will we will see every trick play in the book?

Birds - 27

Texans - 23

Bonus- Texans Special teams play - either fake punt, or surprise onsides kick- that works. (Our ST's are the weak link)
