But should you be penalized for pulling a runner who is already down? That was the point that I made instantly and was happy that Herbstreit addressed it.

You mean if they are down by contact?

If so, clearly no because the play is dead. I guess that's what bailed us out, but I was nervous about it.  Lucky break.

I guess Miles gave them one back later in the game when his knee touched down before converting that 3rd and short.

Im pretty positive from being able to read, hes not complaining about # of targets for smith, so much as the way he is used.

THANK YOU.  I think some people want to win arguments or shut down a conversation so bad they ignore what's actually being said.

Did Dean get any snaps last night? I saw him sweating on the sideline at the end of the game.

26 attempts per game.  That is low in today's NFL.

So I bet Devonta scores TD on both of those passes AJ had where he got tripped up.  Last night and vs. the Steelers.

But I also think theres no way he hauls in that TD that AJ stole from Minkah Fitzpatrick

Just appreciate the fact that Devonta Smith is a perfect teammate.  He knows its a matter of time.

Its done all the time. If they can twist the argument in to something ridiculous and easy to win, they can make it look like they are right. You mentioned the number of gainwell receptions and Smith receptions so thatll be the focus rather than your actual main point.

Smith is faster than brown by a LOT, and is also elite after the catch. We just dont get to see it because they give him the ball at the LOS with no blockers.

Let him run real WR routes and see him make the CB miss and pick up YAC. Let him go on crossing routes and separate and turn the corner with his speed. Get him the ball in space, not in traffic.

Brown and Goedert are more physical. Smith is just as elite running with the ball, in his own way which is more quickness and speed. Hes on their level. He just doesnt get the chance to show it.

Yeah, I just don’t agree that Smith is elite after the catch. That’s a big stretch. Brown is fast and powerful. Pure explosion. Goedert is big and strong and actually elite after the catch based on eye test and the numbers.

Smith is a good player, even very good if we want to argue semantics. Brown and Goedert are playing at a higher level, and not just because of how they’re used.

Oversimplifying, but among these four areas of football, the most important thing is whether you can pass the ball and the least important thing is whether you can stop the run.

Pass Offense

Pass Defense

Run Offense

Run Defense

Not worried about run defense. If that's what teams have to do to beat the Eagles, they will have a very small margin of error to pull it off. One adjustment from Nick and Shane might be to play more up-tempo stuff to lengthen the game and give the offense more snaps. If you are better than the other team you want more plays.

Not true.  A team like the 49ers can do that, but they also have weapons on the outside and Kittle to keep you honest, and can use those to beat you.  And they can play defense.

Agree on the 1st point.

Disagree on the 2nd. Smith is great at going up and getting the ball. Dont forget the countless spectacular catches he made in college. That skillset is in his back of tricks.

probably wrong. but since we wont get to see Smith with those same opportunities, Ill never get proof to support me.

Ehh...Brown looks more lumbering than fast and powerful after the catch.  Twice in the last 2 weeks he's had catches where I thought he could either outrun or split the defender but he didn't.  Those were the plays that TO would pull away and make you scratch your head at how someone so big could run that fast.  I think Smith pulls away with ease.  I'm NOT saying Brown isn't elite.

He was following the Phillies game.

nah... it was really good. They didnt get to run against us because we had leads. But even if they tried early in games theyd get like 1.7 yards per carry (I just made that number up but I bet its pretty close).

No team could have ever kept itself close in the game for an entire half by just running the ball against us like we saw last night. Our pass D was what was suspect in 2017. Run D was spectacular.

Malcolm Jenkins in the box, and taking your chances in C1/C3 on the backend - along with prime Fletch/BG. Schematically, we aren’t overly concerned about shutting down the run nowadays… don’t beat the opposing offense, let them hang themselves or firm up in the RZ.

Tried to go back and follow it, what was the original point ??

This post is 100% correct.

Well....there is a cohort of posters called "they".

And "they" purposefully misinterpret arguments so "they" can win...an argument about a WR...that doesn't change anything...on a message board...while the team is 8-0.

yep. this is the way to win. If the D was built that way in 2017, they would have won with a larger margin of victory against the Patriots too.

Although our focus is in the right place, we do have to improve on the run D at least a little bit. Whether you can find 1 bigger LB who can still cover, or 1-2 more DL who can play both the run and pass equally well....

Im thinking Demarvion Overshown would be a perfect target for us in the draft. We have 2 starting LBs who are free agents. Overshown is an excellent coverage LB with speed, who is also 6'4''. Hes not known for run defense but give me that size and skillset in this D and see if you can get him a little more physical in the run game when needed. Naturally at 6'4'' he is going to be more equipped for it with length to help him shed blocks.

Of course, priority should still be to get younger, and more stout on the DL.

bpac for weeks has been pointing out how the eagles are not utilizing Smith correctly. He is a WR with exceptional hands, elite body control to make the spectacular catch, has blazing speed, and the quickness to make a defender miss and pick up tons of YAC. The eagles dont get him the ball in space at all to let him put any of those skills to work. They pretty much just made him a screen guy.

I bet Smith goes off vs the Skins, they will pick their poison with Brown.

Agreed.  Using him behind the LOS is dumb.  He is the best route runner on the team, and its not close.  Get him in the secondary, let him break guys down, and not only his man / zone, but others will make mistakes opening up the offense for everyone.

Brown should be the guy catching screens, as he is big and physical and can get tough yards.

Noticed Paschall did pretty well on his WR screen last night. Maybe if they want to run those so much, he ends up taking most of those targets. Then hopefully they can adapt Smith's role.

yep. He and, as I just mentioned- Paschal might be pretty decent on that too. Smith needs more conventional routes. He will be even more dangerous.

I mean, how can we question what Siri is doing, there is a thread in TATE discussing him as the next Bill Walsh, and how we are the closest thing to Joe Montana's 49ers in NFL history.

Apparently all the Eagles fans, talking heads and social media missed this.

I felt a poll was in order to vote on this obvious oversite.

Speaking of the Saints, Micheal Thomas is shut down for the season.

Yeah, I dropped him in my fantasy.  However I had to make a roster move and drop Allen Robinson.  Due to waivers, I currently replaced Thomas with Drake London.

So, million dollar question:  London or Robinson?

Was Stoll responsible for Nelson coming off the edge on that sack fumble? Or did Kelce/Hurts miss the assignement?

He don't give a ish about your fantasy football team. I love this dude.
