I was just making sure you knew that the QB could audible without using his mouth.

Well, it wouldn't be an audible then would it?

Sorry. My inner pedant can't always be restrained.

  • Perfect weekend for me. I got to make my long time soul mate my wife officially. And I got a eagles win today. Life is good.

  • Listen up blog.  Enough. These 2 ass clowns are suspended for 2 weeks.  They've both had warnings to quit the personal attacks.  There's a line between trash talk and just abusing other posters a

Aaron Glenn's defense didn't make much sense to me. Blitzed half the time and played a lot of man coverage. They were basically daring Hurts to run, for some reason, with how much vacated field there was.

You're brutal.

I'll try if I can find the time.

Only if you are interested/willing.    I can only force my students to do assignments they don't want to do.

But, watching in real time, I didn't see a lot of Hurts riding the RB and pulling to make a throw.  I saw some play action with the RB and the OL pass blocking.  I saw Read-options where he'd ride the hip and then pull and take off.   But, the RPOs are something that this team went away from early last year and never really got back to late in the year.  They went away from the RPO and went to the RO.    This year, I saw a lot of ROs and designed runs, much more than RPOs.   Maybe I missed them though.

I really haven’t touched as much on hurts in week 1. My take is beat these teams that we need to be to get to the playoffs. We aren’t playing the lions, giants, jags of the world in the postseason to get to where we want to. They just need to win those games by any means necessary. Doesn’t have to be pretty. Would i like to see good QB play consistently out of him? Of course. But more importantly I’d like to see the best out of him as a QB against the better opponents that’ll make me believe he’s capable of making the leap. Even if he played like mahomes against the lions it wouldn’t be the thing that me confident he made the jump

what has yet to be determined is how Hurts looks against the better teams in this league and if he can make the jump against them. They’re going to run into someone like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Rams or the Packers (i think they get back on track at some point and add WRs). That is going to be the thing that is going to tell the Eagles, whether or not he is the solution long-term at quarterback. And that day is eventually coming. There’s gonna be no more excuses when that day comes. No more excuses from either side. It’s going to be what it is.

that said, there are some insanely absurd comments about other quarterbacks around the league by some who I know don’t watch enough football of those other teams or quarterbacks to make those comments.

Yup.  Lots of man coverage, I guess behind the blitzes.   Hurts is a guy you come at more with zone blitzes, so that he can't just make one guy miss and then scoot down the field while the rest of the team has their backs turned.

Not using this for my agenda, just find it interesting how volatile QB grades are. PFF has Hurts almost top 5. Ringer has him at the same spot as last week, #21

PFF is a complete clown show. Any metric that has Mahomes as the #8 QB after this weekend is very seriously flawed

Glenn's gameplan made more sense than Gannon's

Bucs won the playoff game by blitzing. Hurts just made great plays. Lions IMO didn't do a good enough job containing.

Their Qb grades have always been all over the place and usually the reason why people ridicule them. I actually think for the most part their grading of other positions is actually closer to what we tend to see on the field or when we go back to watch the all 22

Problem is the lions don’t have the Bucs personnel on defense. As much talent as the lions have on offense ( good oline, swift, hockenson, chark, st. Brown and eventually Williams) they really only have a couple of pieces on that defense. If Goff is just average that offense can be close to top 10 with the talent they have accumulated. Hard time seeing that defense finishing outside of the bottom 10 of the league.

Bucs blitzed but were mostly zone coverage behind it. Defenders were keeping there eyes on Hurts and the second Hurts dropped his to scramble they swarmed him so he couldn't rip off big chunks. The way the Lions played him would have made sense if he was still nursing an ankle injury and was hampered.

I think the Vikings are going to be very good this year, so .....

It's a trap game! Howie is too busy game planning to punish Wentz for leaving egg on his face!

Not sure how good the Vikings defense is. I think the packers WRs made them look a hell of a lot better in that game. Watson dropping the bomb really set the tone. I think their front 7 looked good. Secondary i think was a product of GB asking 2 rookies, Sammy Watkins and an old Randall Cobb to beat them and their guys playing ok

also, the Packers wide receiving corps reminds me so much of the 2020 eagles wide receiving corps, where they were asking them to be a Super Bowl contender with multiple rookies and veterans who were aging, fragile and not what they once were.

I think you're going to see teams blitz Hurts a lot.

I clearly stated @Texas Eagle and my agenda earlier, see below.  If you do not think this is our agenda, please enlighten us as to what you think our agenda is.

Oh downunderkaren… fine…

You will take any opportunity to whine and complain about Hurts. Any average football fan with average intelligence can see that Hurts has clear flaws, but he is what he is. You have to give credit where credit is due. He played well on Sunday. He was the best version of himself. Chill and accept it. Yes we know RTK is a clown but him just saying that Hurts played well shouldn’t trigger you so hard to bash Hurts and say he can’t throw over and over and over again. Doesn’t it get exhausting?

So yes you’re so anti Hurts that it literally feels like you are rooting against him just so you can look like the smartest guy in the blog. That is your (and several others) agenda in here.

Leading a team to 31 total points against any team is good. Hurts made several good plays on Sunday and the defense didn’t exactly give him short fields to work with. But yes… luckily we played the crap Lions. They suck. Playing well against a crappy team doesn’t mean he didn’t play well….

Geno Smith put up 17 points (0 in the 2nd half) against a not great Seahawks team and he’s already getting MVP votes…

The Bucs blitzed with zone behind it or with a spy. All eyes were on Hurts. The Lions had their backs turned.

In before RTK says the same

It feels like every single year Seattle plays in the most bizarre games in primetime.

Sorry. My inner pedant can't always be restrained.

I can do some audible things without using my mouth. There are armpit farts, and real farts. Maybe Hurts can start using those audibles to change plays.

@downundermike aka downunderkaren. Does your wife know about Karen? People are blowing up your spot.

At the moment a win vs Minnesota seems like a less than 50/50 proposition for us.

I was just looking ahead a bit, and IF we can manage a win that would mean the team is coming along pretty quickly, and Im not sure we lose another one for a while.

Should beat Washington, Jags, Dallas without Dak, and Pittsburgh. Arizona presents a bit of a challenge, but less so than Minnesota.

Beating the Vikings could be a catapult to a 7-0 start.

1.  I am not complaining about Hurts, merely pointing out he did that against a bad defense that has not improved.

2.  No one is rooting against him, we are just rooting to move on to a QB with a higher ceiling as soon as possible.

3.  Should we trade for Jared Goff ??  He put up 34 points against what I have been told all offseason is this great defense that Howie Roseman assembled.

Well, I had time to watch the first half. I counted three RPOs. I counted 10 ROs! Hurts handed off on 8 of the 10. Unless I was sure of the call I didn't count it. In that regard, I suspect that not all of the 10 ROs I counted were legit ROs. I think Hurts may have showed RO action just to nail the DE and never intended to run the ball himself. I counted them because they showed the RO action but that may have overstated the number. The second half will have to wait.
