Wow the Blog really went off the rails a bit last night. Bit of a long post coming.

Here's the thing, many of us offer valid criticisms of Hurts. We beat it into the ground, because that's the biggest issue on our favorite team, and the Blog is where we discuss said things. Some push back and say "We know the issues, why rehash them over and over"....well....it's a discussion board. And specifically in the off season, there's a lot of nothingness going on, so naturally the conversation will wind it's way back to Hurts.

Now, the issue with Hurts that I have, is last year, he couldn't beat a good team. Would pad his stats against them in garbage time so he looked better than he really was (and his stats aren't really that great). We were told all offseason, that he was the hardest working guy in the league, he's out working with a QB guru, fixing his mechanics, etc. Then we get into training camp, and the reports are out there that he's running in 7v7 and 11v11 drills. Where nobody can hit him, and thus they become useless reps. Add into that the limited reps and practice that this organization has decided to go with, and frustration starts to build. Game 1 of the season arrives, and Hurts beats up on a bad team, again. But he does so by running the ball 17 (16, whatever) times. And you have people nitpicking through the plays to justify it. By this point, I wanted to see him use his athleticism to avoid the rush, but keep looking downfield and throw the ball. He just isn't capable of that. I don't know if he's selfish (as he claimed he likes to "get freaky") or if he's just aware of his limitations (throwing the ball). But it's a problem. It worked against a bad team, just like last year. And, because we've seen no indication of any improvement in his mentality towards the position, I think we can predict with accuracy how this season is going to go. Likely, we win the division, and get bounced in the playoffs when we play a good defense. It all feels like a giant waste of time to get invested with this guy, because he's not taking us where we want to go.

And as a fan, I'm f'in frustrated with it. I'm frustrated with the coaches for not holding him accountable (like Vrabel did in Tenn with Willis in the preseason), I'm frustrated for the other players (like Kelce, who's likely in his last year), I'm frustrated that we have ongoing debates and people still saying, we have to wait and see. There's nothing we've seen to date to show that Hurts has changed. We have a fantastic running game, led by a great o-line. We have great receiving threats across the board. Everything is held back by the guy under centre. And it's frustrating as hell. So we discuss it in here till we're blue in the face.

Discussing it in here....you have a segment of posters who unabashedly call you racist for raising these concerns about him. And there's no repercussions. They are allowed to openly and repeatedly call me a racist without any pushback. And mods here have given out warnings and suspensions for far less. There's three posters in particular that jump hard on the "you must be racist if you don't like Hurts" bandwagon, and frankly, it's disgusting and completely derails any semblance of conversation.

The Strong thing was borne out of this, as well as one posters inability to offer any criticism of Hurts at all. I literally asked him if Hurts shared any responsibility in running 17 goddamn times (thanks @bpac55 for pointing out that's more carries than any RB has had in the last 2 years) and he blamed everybody else but Hurts. So Strong was given over the top praise to the point of ridiculousness. That poster deserved the disingenuousness of it all, because it was a pure reflection of him. That some posters are so self righteous to continue to think it's comparable to the racist allegations that poster still makes to this day with no consequence is laughable frankly.

We all want the team to do well. But until Hurts shows that he's more willing to be a passer than a me-first runner, I have no expectation that we are going anywhere, and my frustration will remain. The defense is a completely separate issue, and it also needs to be fixed, but this is an offensive league, and the biggest problem on this team still is Hurts.

*bold prediction- our Defense still blows

It was crazy to watch a badly injured Justin Herbert make a throw on 4th down to Carter late in that game that a healthy Jalen Hurts will probably never be able to make in his career.

Been watching some Jaren Hall clips after seeing him against Baylor. Impressive prospect. Good arm, can scramble a little bit, smooth release, and very accurate.

He lacks prototypical size, but is still much bigger than Young.

Bring back the Easter egg uniforms. McNabb lit it up in those unis. Hurts and McNabb are basically the same person, right? Let’s do it!

By all accounts Mahomes played pedestrian like. Mistakes, bad reads, should of has 2, maybe 3 balls intercepted.

With all that being said, think about where Hurts is compared to pedestrian mahomes. IF we had pedestrian Mahomes we'd be the 1 seed, not even close

Shocking take there.  Every team outside of maybe 3 or 4 others in the league would be substantially better if they had Mahomes.  He's going to go down as one of the 5 best QBs to ever play the game.

Agree on all your points (without quoting the entire post) -- but, please -- the ignore feature.  If everyone would just put these tools on ignore instead of entertaining them for 5-10 pages it would do a lot to clean up your frustrations and others as well.  They WANT the back-and-forth and name-calling; it's entertainment for them.  Without it, sooner or later they will leave

I have quite a few people on ignore, and I'm sure just as many have me on ignore.  I do so because conversation with them becomes pointless and confrontational, not because they're bad people.  The moderators likely have full time jobs and don't have the time or energy to read the blog all day.

One feature I've suggested before and will suggest again is, when you have a user on ignore it should also not show any replies to them by other posters.  When folks actively engage these trolls it forces everyone else to have to read the pettiness as well.

Agree…the racist take is ridiculous.  I was a huge Randall fan, and a big McNabb fan (at least the first half of his career).  I’d kill for Mahomes to play here.  I would’ve welcomed DeShaun Watson until it became known he is a sleezeball.

I’m not a fan of Kyler Murray (too immature).  I think Lamar Jackson is gifted and wins, but I don’t blame the Ravens for being hesitant due to his style of play…and the same goes for the less talented version of him…Hurts.

There’s also plenty of white QBs to dislike…Rodgers is an immensely talented arrogant jerk…and Baker Mayfield is way too cocky to be mediocre at best.

Race may be behind some people’s opinions (sadly)…I just hate when it’s assumed to be the case.

Good post.  I hear what you are saying and don’t dispute the concerns about last year.  As to this year, we haven’t seen the full picture yet.  I have gone through the All 22 three times, including once focusing on Hurts.  His good plays and the bad.  Every QB has bad plays but I would offer that Goff had more and that pick six by Herbert yesterday was bad.  Hurts is never going to be Mahommes who has the gunslinger attitude he had in college and a wrist flick quick trigger.  Hurts doesn’t have the latter but that throw to Brown was pure gunslinger albeit the risk was minimized a bit by the area of the field and the time on the clock.  Recognition of the good doesn’t mean the flaws aren’t visible.  I have been at the beach all week and cannot figure out how to copy from the All 22 to show what I have seen that was better.  I think you have the All 22 in Canada.  Take a look at the play @justrelax and I discussed last night. It’s at 101.24 on the All 22.  The blocking is pure run to the left as it starts.  We saw a few hints of that in preseason.  Notice how much more Hurts ran left in the Lions game.  Nick is starting to use more of the other teams reaction to his advantage.  Well the blocking goes left.  Hurts doesn’t and moves to the right and exposed but really one man to beat.  Beautiful route concept. No way all three receivers are going to be covered. (I use receivers, not WRs to reference eligible receivers regardless of position.). Turns out all three are open although the high (Smith) has the tightest coverage.). On that play there is a fourth option.  Hurts could probably run for a first. I think last year he would have.  He sets up, exposed and delivers a strike to Brown.

I think Shane and Nick are going to exploit Hurts running ability. Nick said he would use a player’s strength when introduced.

Hurts had a big share offensively for why the Eagles didn’t beat better teams last year.  But so did JJAW and Reagor.  Hurts lost the giants game.  But the defense was awful and Sunday was a huge letdown.  In games against better teams they were awful last year.  The playcalling on defense is not good but the lack of any disguise is awful.  I gave Gannon the benefit of the doubt based on players last year.  He lost the benefit of the doubt Sunday.  He is in last chance to prove it territory now.

As to the one poster that goes overboard with his Hurts love.  He used to troll politically (maybe still does).  He doesn’t need to do that anymore because he found the Hurts trigger.  The bullies may like to fight with him (and Brandon2 who also trolls them) but many just ignore that. Who needs that in their day?

Agreed.  A large group wanted Wilson or Watson, and I would take Stroud or Richardson in the draft.  It has nothing to do with race, it’s all about style. I would prefer to have a great passing quarterback than a one read and then run quarterback.

Yes, putting Mahomes...good mahomes on a lot of teams would make them SB contenders.

My point was, a **** mahomes game is still light years ahead of Hurts

Did you watch the game? He was making some unreal throws.  That's not normal.

Also did you watch the Eagles-Detroit game? Mahomes doesn't play defense.

It's not so much the individual plays from Detroit that have me frustrated with Hurts, it's everything that was leading up to the game, and then the overall vibe of meet the new boss, same as the old. I think Hurts escapability is something very special, but I wish beyond wishing that he would instead look to throw after avoiding rushers, instead of looking to run. One, it would just make him a greater threat as a QB, and two, it would extend his career. He can't take the shots he took against Detroit and survive to Canadian thanksgiving (early October). And we saw, even when he slides to try and protect himself, the refs aren't giving him the benefit of the slide, and it's gonna end badly.

And I blame Nick for this as well. It seems like they don't care that he puts himself in harm's way, so long as he's sustaining drives. To me, that's coaching scared, not coaching to make the players better.
