The whole point is Mr Salty thinking he is righteous because he wants Hurts to get injured when running so he can "I told you so" That's pathetic and its not based in reality. He gets nailed in the pocket worse than when he runs and he can make the running easier by running smarter. This comes with experience, the same as becoming a better passer. You could also say the TD run was dangerous but carrying a DB into the end zone from the 5 is not the same as that other bad decision of taking on 4 guys. It does though. By running so frequently, he puts himself at more risk. He can get nailed in BOTH places. But, the issue for me isn't about the 'getting nailed', it's about the getting folded while his foot his caught in the turf. The hit to Cunningham's knee wasn't hard... it was just in the wrong place... and its now illegal to hit a QB low in the pocket. It is not illegal to tackle a QB low when he's running around outside the pocket. But, if Hurts was running and getting down and not getting contacted, you'd hear nothing from me. But, he's not. And the coaches are encouraging that type of behavior from him. Unsustainable. 5 minutes ago, DEagle7 said: Dumb question but only external FA signings count towards the comp pick formula right? So if for example we signed Gardner-Johnson to an extension this off-season that doesn't factor in correct? Yes. And you can sign cut players like Bradberry, for example, with no impact.
September 24, 20222 yr 7 minutes ago, SkippyX said: Oh, we are talking about the same run? Yeah, you are just plain wrong. I want my QB scoring on that play every time. Mahomes does this too. Allen does this. Football is about making plays, not being a wimp. There are times when you have no shot and you don't take a beating. Slide at 7 yards instead of getting nailed at 9 for example. You are free to root for the Eagles to be 10-7 because all their players played it safe instead of trying to score. I will root for Super Bowl by making plays that are there to be made. Like I said... better discernment is needed. This post illustrates that you are lacking in that as well. I never even hinted at wanting ALL of my players 'playing it safe'. But after picking up 20 yards and setting up first and goal... yes, I'd rather my QB go out of bounds inside the 10 than cut back and take on 4 defenders. I want my RB to cut back, I want my WR to cut back, I want my TE to cut back. But, I want my QB to avoid contact in that situation. It was 14-7 at the time... with 2 minutes left in the first half. They were in great shape and going out of bounds sets them up well for a TD before the half. Him cutting back is no guarantee of a TD, but cutting back inside is a guarantee of unnecessary risk for injury versus running out of bounds there. Football is about making plays. It's also about risk management. It is a violent game. Injuries are the main constant.
September 24, 20222 yr This weekend ought to be fun to watch, with the disgusting obsession that a good portion of this board had with Wentz and how they proceeded to denigrate and say Hurts is a running back and is capped. LMAO. Some peeps are gonna be eating crow in here soon and will need to offer full fledged apologies; if Hurts continues on this track. I was one who said Hurts is making progress all along and could be the answer, as he was developing and had only a lil over a full season of QB1 experience. The arrogant all knowingness regarding Wentz/Hurts of certain individuals in here has been comical I must say. Go Birds!
September 24, 20222 yr Can't wait for the game. I really hope WAS brings a lot of pressure and mixes up the coverage on the back end a lot. It's important that Hurts shows he can pass a test like that.
September 24, 20222 yr @SkippyX Lots of bad things can happen when your QB is in this position. Shot to his ear hole and he gets concussed? Kidneys exposed as he turns his back to the defenders.

Watch MVP level Wentz of 2017 and then apply your how dare he make a play because injury logic. Now do it for Mahomes 2018 and Jackson 2019 and Cam 2015 and Wilson 2013-2014, and pretty much everyone. Its not flag football.

Its not flag football. Yes, he might be. But we are discussing what is controllable, versus what is not controllable. BTW... I criticized Wentz in 2017 for taking chances with his body unnecessarily as well. For example, the play where he escapes from the pocket on MNF against Washingteam. It was a miracle escape, then he's running free untouched and could have gotten 5 yards, untouched and gotten down. But, he chose not to and instead tried to take on a defender and is hit unnecessarily. That was a great play... with an unnecessary ending. 5 positive yards on that play was already great enough, no need for the extra bit. And lest we forget that Wentz was injured on a play at the goal line where he chose to try to get through 2 defenders in a tight hole... not a hard hit, but just an awkward one. And frankly, that play might have completely rewritten his entire career. I am also critical of how the Bills are currently using Josh Allen. It is not flag football. That's true. But the QB is also the most important piece on the entire team. That position needs to act differently on the field, because that position dictates everything else, and the investment at that position is far and away the most costly one on the entire roster. You don't take your Ferrari off paved streets and into areas where the pot holes are big enough to swallow a small child because 'its a car'. September 24, 20222 yr 1 hour ago, Iggles_Phan said: Nope. What I want is my QB to avoid contact when he's running. Hurts seeks it many times. That's a problem. Hurts is also running at a higher rate than any of the 'running Qbs' of the past at a ridiculously high rate. I don't want designed runs by my QB as a large part of the foundation of the offense. If Hurts is running out of the pocket, great. Avoid contact while doing so. I went through the stills that @justrelax posted on the 2nd TD run by Hurts. If Hurts follows Goedert's block and runs out of bounds at the 6 or 7, I'm overjoyed with that play. He was never in danger. Instead, he cuts back and takes on 4 defenders. In the process, he ends up exposing his back to multiple defenders as he runs over one, who is going for the strip. He's taking risks. That's his game. It's what got him to the NFL. What I am asking for from him is to get smarter and show better discernment on putting his body in harm's way. Probably shouldn’t let Gainwell, Scott or Sanders try to run through tackles. Probably should forbid Brown, Pascal. Watkins and certainly Smith from trying for YAC f it involves contact. Hurts is bigger than all of them. Slay, Bradberry, Epps, CGJ, White and Dean should avoid tackling anybody bigger than them (like Hurts). Doing that could get them injured. What I have learned from this interchange is that staying in the pocket, rolling out or running could get a QB injured. Well it is football. In all seriousness, Hurts needs to learn how to protect himself. He should watch Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. Both prolonged their careers by going out of bounds after gaining the max yards before contact. I am sure the coaches talked about that during game review. But Injuries occur without contact too. We can’t bubble wrap players.

We can’t bubble wrap players. That's just foolish. None of them are QBs. Different positions... different rules. I'm not bubble wrapping players. I am asking my QB to be smarter about how he uses his body. We heard about how Cam Newton was 'built different' too. But, somehow, Newton hit 29 (didn't even make it to the magical 30) and somehow his body just broke down. If you have the right QB, you want him to stick around as long as possible, because finding the next one is no easy feat. RBs? They are a dime a dozen. WRs? Contrary to what this franchise would have one believe, they are easily acquired as well. QBs are the unicorns. You need to treat them as such, and you need to ask them to be smarter. BTW... Payton almost never went out of bounds unless forced to. Smith did it all the time.
September 24, 20222 yr @LeanMeanGM Commode doors have a better team than showed up last week and it is at home. Wentz will try to play some hero ball and have some success. Note to Gannon: tight zones and appropriate man match. Eagles need to score in the second half. Tighter game than it should be but with injuries at DE and struggling LBs for the Commode doors, the Eagles running game will work setting up the pass. Eagles 34, commode doors 27. Bonus If not so common as to be ruled not an eligible prediction: Wentz fumbles.
