If you are going to argue that overcoming the elements, injuries, and a 14-0 deficit makes for a beautiful win, then it wasn't an ugly win.

If you are going to argue that a ton of injuries, an inability to lean on a precise passing game (understood, can't really happen in that weather), and slugging it out until midway through the 4th quarter are all things that are not beautiful, then it was an ugly win.

Your first assessment is what I felt.  Overcoming adversity was not a hill that this team had had to climb thus far in the season.  I loved how they kept their cool and then dismantled the Jags.  I didn't actually weigh the injuries, but I don't think they came even close to a ton.  Mailata and Slay and Seumalo.  Anyone else?  Even losing Mailata and Seumalo, the O-Line didn't miss a beat on their steady march to 200+ yards rushing and only 1 sack (the bad snap was the other credited sack ... not really a sack in my book).  And I thought McPherson filled in for Slay very capably.

When the slugging it out produces five turnovers ... that is beautiful.  And the game was over (in my opinion) before half time, which was also beautiful.

It was absolutely brutal out there today. One of the worst weather days I've ever experienced. The combination of wind and rain was unbearable. There was no chance of staying dry, and once you were wet, it felt about twenty or thirty degrees colder than what you'd normally feel. I doubt people are complaining too much, but if you are, you're a fool. I'm sure the conditions were a lot worse than folks watching at home could really grasp. That's one of those games where you just want to walk out with a win, to hell with how pretty it might look.

I’d add walk away without any Major long term injuries. It was brutal around the league today with major long term type injuries.

Absolutely disagree with your opinion on that one. I was nervous the entire second half and didn't really feel good until the final fumble recovery to ice it.

Regarding other injuries, Kyron Johnson had a head injury (concussion?) in the second half.

The only two real things you could nitpick as a reason to have concerns for the team at this point are: will Hurts regress at some point and how will the Eagles fare when they play an elite team? I have no reason to believe right now the results of each won't be positive, but if you're digging for something those are it. I think the Eagles are built to beat good teams, but the Eagles haven't beat a team considered like a "deep playoff team" yet. Not their fault obviously, can only play who's in front of you, but that's another hurdle to climb eventually. And I have no reason to believe Hurts will randomly regress this season based on how he's played, but we have seen it before in this city. Foles 27-2 and then turned to crap. 2010 Vick was unstoppable and then turned to crap. But different players and circumstances, I don't see major regression from Hurts.

But if I had to nitpick something, those could be it. The team looks really strong.

We will have to agree to disagree.  it was over at half time.  The first three possessions by Jacksonville in the second half were a Punt, then and Interception, then a Fumble.  Meanwhile the Eagles tacked on a Field Goal and a Touchdown.

Come to think of it Patrick Johnson was injured in the 2nd Quarter.  I don't know if he returned later in the game.

I'm in from California taking care of my 99 year-old mother and I broke away from those responsibilities long enough to enjoy the game at justrelax's apartment with his cat Benjamin.  We thought about going to the game itself, but the tickets were insanely expensive, so we opted for Plan B, which proved to be both drier and warmer.

Haha... so cute, I want one...

My Mom's 93, lives with me in my home because that's the way I want it. l know the drill.

Nice to know you were local for a bit, regardless of the circumstance. Couldn't think of better company to watch an Eagles game with, than @justrelax except maybe @FranklinFldEBUpper but he was busy collecting all the water at the Linc today.

Wonder if he drowned...:angel If he did, can we get his records from the last 50 years?? Petition his Estate? Value!

If he did drown, that'd require a Tribute at the Linc, a Banner in His name on the Upper level but still want those notes...

You’ve got a long wait before you see them play a deep playoff caliber team.  They play Green Bay and Tennessee back-to-back in Weeks 12 and 13, but are hosting both games.  The only other "contender” on the schedule is @ DAL in Week 16.

The NFCE drew an easy schedule this year; it’s no accident the division is 11-5 overall.  The NFC North and AFC South are the worst divisions in football, and the Eagles will reap the benefits.  Remember the season Carolina went 15-1 and played in the Super Bowl?  They had the easiest schedule I’ve ever seen that year.  Not saying the Eagles can win 15 games, but their schedule overall is quite easy.

Their flex games are ARI, PIT, and NO.  None of them look strong at all right now

Thank you.

So, perseverance in crap weather was a factor in the outcome..

Our Men bowed up and won this one in tough conditions.

Weather was the same on both sides of the field, our guys pushed through.

Love me sum Riddick, among a host of others, McP, Bradberry, and all...

Pretty good showing in my book.

I think you're a bit off here.  Looking back on it, the game may actually have been over generally at the half but there was absolutely no way to know that until we were well into the 4th quarter.

Ugly - I can see calling it "ugly" based on the weather and losing guys but I'm with you 100% here.  This was a beautiful victory.  Hard fought character win.  One that goes a long way.  The opposite of some 16-13 victory over some crap team where nothing happens.

Key now is to find out that Mailata is not out for more than a week and that Seumalo can get back soon after the bye.

The Giants' alternates/retros are the best uniforms in the NFL IMO.

Couple random observations

Seumalo - I just watched the local NBC post game show and he walked into the locker room on his own.  No boot either.  Guessing he has a sprain and probably a fairly bad one.

Covey - I'm just about done with him.  He's a twig out there and I expect him to get snapped in two and lose the ball on every return.  I can live with that BUT he has to be able to come up and catch the ball.  That's the #1 priority for him.  He hasn't done it yet in four games.  Give me Reno Mahe.

Roster - The really nice thing (credit to the coaching staff and also to Howie) is how everyone on the roster to the last man contributes.  The chemistry on this team is super high right now and there is clearly talent and that combination always bodes well.  Still way early but if we can stay healthy we are going to be in the mix in January.

In a year or two we will play them with our kellygreen/white/silver jerseys and have a super retro look on the field.  Some smart designer needs to upgrade our old helmet a bit with the wings and then leave the rest alone.

Yeah that’s until we get the Kelly green unis next year

When you're 4-0, of course a lot of statistics will look favorable.

But we are tied for most takeaways (10) and tied for fewest giveaways (2).

If sustainable, that portends to a really successful season.

For sure.

And both of the INTs weren’t made anywhere near where Hurts threw the ball.

4-0 SINCE THE 2004 SUPER BOWL RUN........LET'S GO ALL THE WAY.  :groovy::towel::LII::Eagle_smiley:

Obviously not the best game for Hurts, but, thought he still did fine. Was nice to see him and the team come back from down two scores against a solid team with a good defense.

Having said that, he is currently on pace to have 225 rushes in the season. That really needs to stop. The running game was doing fine. Sanders had a career day and even Sermon looked good. He needs to stop taking off so much.

Tough guy, but it's only a matter of time.

Eagles win ugly over Jaguars to remain only undefeated team in NFL

I was listening to the WIP post game show and their recurring comments labeled this game as an Ugly Win.  My take on that is that it is 100% off the mark.  That win was anything but ugly.  I wanted to call in and ask them what it was about the game that they thought made it an ugly win, but I didn't know the call in telephone number.

So here's a prop for the Blog.  If you thought this was an Ugly Win mark this comment with the Sad button.  If you thought it was not an Ugly Win mark this comment with the Like button.  I'm really interested to hear everyone's thoughts.

I think any time it’s windy and rainy, many people associate those conditions as ugly.  It could be no more than that.

Started by giving up a pick 6.  Then they gave up a 14-0 deficit and were in danger of falling behind 21-0... until the unforced error by Lawrence dropping the ball while rolling to his right on a 4th down.  The game really turned on that play.  From that point on, the Eagles controlled the game.  It was a game that didn't include much in the way of deep passing and it was a game with a lot of turnovers - fortunately, the vast majority on the part of Jax.  But, it definitely wasn't a 'pretty' win.

And there was a PAT that was right on target that took a hard right turn and was pushed past the upright at one point... and it seemed that both teams were unwilling to try a FG of any significant distance.

This is just... bad and bad.

Absolutely brutal weather conditions where turnovers were significant in the game. Where our kicker missed a PAT because of it and made our Coach turn down a 40 yarder to ice the game late and you want Covey to sprint up and catch the ball in basically a monsoon?

I think Covey could be decent if maybe we threw a block or two for him. But, f it let’s bring back DeSean.

Some major differences.
Foles: Living off Chip's scheme that opponents hadn't figured out yet. Once they did, it was over. The same thing happened to Sanchez and Bradford too.
Vick: Was living off deep throws to Maclin and Jackson. He never could figure out the middle of the field, so it was a feast or famine offense. We'd still score because of the playmakers, but it was inconsistent.

Hurts is making a lot of throwing progress, but if he hurts his ankle again then I could see regression. This is true of all mobile QBs (even Mahomes and Allen). It just lowers the ceiling.
