Then again he’d bring a nice haul back with how he’s pitching. If that’s the case i think you might also be willing to deal wheeler as well as you likely aren’t competing and he’s getting older. Essentially i think you’d have to go to harper and tell him you are going into basically a rebuild. I wonder how he’d take that in the middle of his prime Trade Harper too. Who cares. We’re definitely not winning with him so trade everyone and start a rebuild the right way.

But i don’t see the Phillies willing to do it. Right now with the elbow i don’t think you’d get the haul as if he were completely healthy. I think it’s obvious he’s gonna need tommy John on it. It’s not like hoskins where it was non throwing elbow. since his contract is so long. I’m guessing the team acquiring him likely wants the Phillies to pay some of that contract on the backend if you deal him with the elbow injury right now without it being certain if that elbow holds up the rest of the year and then needing surgery that keeps him out hopefully just to the start of 2023.

If miraculously the Phillies are actually competing and in A wild card spot they aren’t going to do it especially after missing the playoffs 11 straight years.

I said 84-85 wins. And frankly right now looks bleak. They are also facing their hardest part of their schedule which is clearly showing they aren’t good enough to beat those teams. That said they still have 60 games against the nats, marlins, cubs, reds and pirates. Granted this team manages to find ways to lose to the marlins. But i suspect they wind up finishing around 78-82 wins

I think part of the reason it wasn’t this week is cause gabe is in town and it would be a bad look for them. That’s how the Phillies as a organization thinks. id frankly blow it up. Then again i thought they should’ve done that after 2020 when they failed in 60 games. And felt that way after last year. Hoskins shouldn’t be here anymore. He’s not re-signing nor should they want too after his arbitration is up after 2023. I’d actually like to keep nola cause he’s still relatively young and looks like he’s back on track. I’d also say if you had wheeler and nola and painter and Abel develop faster than we expect so that by midway next year they are ready, then you could have a pretty nice rotation in 2024. Then you can figure out the positional players. really nothings changing in terms of good player development with the Phillies until they fire the entire scouting department. Even guys like Abel and painter i don’t trust as much due to our development. Get rid of girardi, dombrowski and go out and get scouts from the dodgers or rays organization and draft and develop their farm. We ragged on Ed Wade but in Philly he did a good job of drafting and developing. He did it in houston to help them get to where they are even though he got fired right before they took off. Similar to here.
June 1, 20224 yr One of the shows this morning mentioned a rumor that Girardi is done but the Phillies are basically too embarrassed to do it with Gabe in town. Kinda like how you want your ex to think everything is fine with your new relationship even though it's not. If this is true, this is extremely childish imo.

Similar to here. Dombrowski is signed through 2024 so he isn't going anywhere. I'm pretty sure they overhauled their scouting department with the hiring of Preston Mattingly. Unfortunately, we're gonna have to wait at least a couple of years to see if that pays off. Honestly, I would go up to both Bryce and Zach Wheeler, apologize for the organizational incompetence, and ask where they would like to be traded too. Explain to them it's going to be a long, arduous rebuild and it would be better for them and their families to go to a team with a winning culture. They deserve that. I would then take the best offers that come in for the remaining stiffs even if that means taking back bottom of the barrel players and eating some money on contracts. This team needs an enema.

I’m skeptical with dombrowski and building up a farm and trading away the farm if he does. His MO is trading away prospects for proven players. And it’s not been great in building up a farm system. I’d be more high on mattingly if we had a GM that was better at building up farm systems. I tend to think they just need to completely clean house and start over. I think dealing harper right now isn’t in the cards due to his elbow. He needs TJ so it’s about when he does it. Too hard to pull that off right now. Id say this offseason but with surgery to throwing arm need him to come back and rake then deal him at the deadline. Id deal wheeler depending on the return. However goes back to dombrowski. He’s better at acquiring proven MLB players. I don’t think his speciality or where he thrives at is acquiring prospects or identifying ones in trades that pan out. i think dombrowski’s likely gone after 2023 with his contract running out in 2024 if this continues. I don’t see him being a lame duck for 2024 and with how this team has been the last two years i think the move in a different direction unless we turn it around. What should really piss off Phillies fans is that the Mets declined similar to the Phillies (2012) after 2009. Built up to get to a WS in 2015 and solid in 2016. then went back into another kind of rebuild to now very very good. Meanwhile the Phillies are in year 11 since last making them playoffs looking like they need a second complete rebuild. Heck at this rate the nats might do another rebuild before the Phillies get back through there’s
