September 4, 20242 yr Harper is actually hitting well his last 12 games. He’s hitting .362 (17-47). Needs to get his power back which with his injury might not happen and he might need more time off then they can give him for it to fully heal his slashes over those 12 games: .362/.426/.511/.937

And if i remember correctly it wasn’t because he was injured or anything. It was down the stretch they were giving guys rest knowing they were locked into the 4 seed
September 4, 20242 yr Not going to lie, one of the most irritating things on Twitter with Phillies fans is that anytime Bryce Harper doesn’t come through or he winces a little bit, he needs to be rested for two weeks. First, if his injury would take 1-2 weeks to get him closer to 100% then the Phillies probably would’ve already done it. They would’ve taken the long view of postseason means more than these games. kind of like they’re doing with Alec Bohm. Second, the fact that they didn’t tell me it’s more than just a couple weeks of rest. It tells me it’s likely closer to something where he needs 6-8 weeks to get himself back closer to 100% (won’t happen til offseason) or he might need a minor surgery in the off-season to fix the problem (ala realmuto needed 4-6 week surgery). So the two weeks of rest is not gonna improve him enough to cure what is ailing him. As long as it’s not getting worse then it is better he plays through it to learn what he can’t do with the injury and get himself into a rhythm like he has over he last 12 games.

After Lenny hit the big HR I though it was going to game 7. Also, I was at the 15-14 game and Mitch meltdown (how many of those did we see?). My only WS game in person. That series is going to haunt me to my grave. '93 was my favorite team as well. This one is pretty close to the top, mind you.

September 4, 20242 yr So Walker can be a mid-game reliever for 2 innings (maybe 3 max) when the Phillies are down big. That's his role. Maybe doesn't pitch more than once or twice this year and then he's gone.
September 4, 20242 yr Looking at the 1st inning, it was bad but not as bad as it looked on the stat sheet. Two hanging curves were the REALLY big mistakes plus two other normal hits with one being a routine ground ball single to right. The other four were not Phillips fault. Three bloop singles and a mistake by Sosa which easily could have been an error. Any way you look at it, the 1st was a disaster but it very easily could have been a 3-1 game moving into the 2nd and we might have gotten another inning or two out of Phillips. When is Turnbull back? Rather take a shot on him or Allard at this point.

His season is likely over but they said if he does come back he’s being used out of the bullpen. Has a bullpen session sometime this week.
September 4, 20242 yr Schwarbomb city! Too funny that we just made a bunch of posts yesterday about how bad he has been yesterday. Now need to get Harper comfortable. He is getting some hits now and again but we need a couple of HRs over the next week or so.
September 4, 20242 yr I'm pumped as I have the game on TV tonight. At some point I'm going to end up buying a month of streaming from MLB and then I'll get all the day games and maybe I'll watch a few live in the middle of the night. The big playoff games for sure. Just isn't the same watching a replay the next morning.

I was at a VERY big alumni weekend at my college which was the 300 year celebration weekend for the school. For the game I was back at my fraternity and it was the northern boys fraternity at a school in the south. We had a good chunk of Philly fans but also people from NJ/NY/CT/Mass etc. and they were all really happy to give the Philly group a ton of sheet. It was all fun and games but I was not happy to say the least, fricking Mitch.

Only to be crushed again as a young adult by the eagles 4 years in a row. Sadly was the only Phillies playoff team i saw from ages 1-22.

Unfortunately for me I was 13 and never really watched a lot of baseball so I didn't have a team yet and I only remember the Joe Carter home run so I became a blue jays fan for a awhile lol. I still follow them a little bit but, I dont watch them and only follow some of the good players they have.

September 4, 20242 yr Define "fun". If you mean fun in as we now have a clue to when we should go back in time and give your father a fleshlight to use instead..... Then yeah... I guess that is fun.
September 4, 20242 yr I'm not sure which Phillies team was more heartbreaking- the 93 team or the 2011 team. If the 93 team wins that game 4 where they gave up that 14-9 lead, I think they win the series, or at the very least, goes to a 7th game. The 2011 team should have won it all. If Cliff Lee doesn't cough up game 2, the Phillies win that series in 4 games, max. The only question I would have would be whether Ryan Howard still tears his Achilles even if they get past St. Louis. That thing was bothering him for some time, and he also was receiving cortisone injections, so who knows. If he managed to stay healthy, there is no doubt in my mind they beat Texas in that World Series. Halladay deserved to win a ring with how dominating he was.

Except you had to cheer for Roberto Alomar…

That was unexpected ride and a unique cast of characters. The way it ended was in the most heartbreaking fashion. the 2011 was more disappointing. I’d argue in my lifetime that was the greatest Phillies team assembled (wasn’t alive during 1980 and prior to that). That team was legitimately stacked. 4 Aces and a really good lineup. To me that teams was clearly the best Phillies team of that era and yet managed to lose to the cardinals in the NLDS. If i remember correctly the Phillies had a chance to keep the cardinals out of the playoffs to which makes it worse. with Howard that thing was eventually going to rupture. Like you said he was getting cortisone injections for much of the year. Over the course of time it thins the tendons/ligaments. I’m surprised with how good they were that year they didn’t just rest him for a month. He played 152 games. Really was no need to play him that much as that team won the division by 13 games and the 2 seeded brewers were 6 back
