September 30, 20242 yr Cy Young could be on the line for Chris sale today. He has a chance to get the Braves into the playoffs by being dominant and winning the game against a hated rival Mets (who really have nothing to play for as they’ve clinched a WC berth with the win in game 1). If he implodes or isn’t very good it might actually help wheeler.

Same issue that has always been there and the reason he can't get past 150. He's out of shape again. Amaro danced - a little - around the reason saying it was a chicken and the egg situation, unsure whether the back injury prohibited his staying in shape or him not continuing the conditioning he received in spring training once the season started causing the back issue. All of the guys on the podcast including Zolecki agreed that right now he is out of shape and said Thomson is hoping that the adrenaline of the playoffs will get him through like before.” I said during the Mets game i still think his back is an issue. I think that’s contributing towards him being it of shape. You saw it in the second inning he began doing twists and stretches to loosen up his back after a strikeout. Then trying to loosen it up again in the 5th doing some other stretches. Frankly i think he needs to have a better offseason regime and stay in shape but i have a feeling this back issue is going to wind up being worse than they let on. Frankly amaro saying what he did feels like he has more info but not able to share it. I remember dbacks commentators saying they have more info from the team but are told what to put out. So I’m guessing he knows more

September 30, 20242 yr Braves season is in the balance as well as potentially the cy young for Chris sale on this game…

Season hangs in the balance and Sale pusses out? Will Sale probably win the Cy Young? Probably. Now I really hope the Mets sweep em which grosses me out to say.

If they win and he pitches game 1 i call BS on the spasms. Frankly it’s high risk move but if it works they are set up way better for game 1 at sd

I hope it bites them in the ass. It's gonna gross me out again to say, but I hope the Mets win 10-0.

October 1, 20242 yr What on earth makes you guys think Wheeler stands a chance against Sale regarding the Cy Young? Sale has more wins, less losses, more strikeouts, and a better ERA. The only categories Wheeler was better were WHIP (barely) and IP/GS

Thats a primetime spot to solidify your candidacy. I’d add sale also started 3 less games which makes his K numbers more impressive. Wheeler got pushed back a couple days but made 32 starts vs. 29. I’m guessing sale would’ve been great in those anyway with how he’s not healthy now chance he has the issue wheeler did around the AS break where he’s not as good and his ERA takes a hit that said the wins don’t mean crap. Plenty of games where wheeler was fantastic and they didn’t win. He went 6 innings and 2 runs or less in 11 consecutive starts. He won 6 of those games. For the season he had 25 of those such games. He won 14 and took the loss or had a no decision in 11 of them. The offense cost him more wins.

Wheeler was robbed of a cy young in 2021 though, I'll say that for sure.

October 1, 20242 yr He did all the things he talked about in the A-Rod video above. He choked up and moved back in the box. I wish the Phillies would watch him.
October 1, 20242 yr That clip really makes you wonder about the accuracy of the radar guns these days. Or the guns back then. Guys nowadays often throw 100mph, sometimes up to 103mph or so. And here you have the hardest thrower of all time in the prime of his career and he's clocked at 99. Yeah, something ain't right about that.

Yeah, something ain't right about that. For your consideration... The short story is that the radar guns measured the ball closer to the plate in Ryan's era than they do now (when they basically measure them out of the hand). The ball loses several mph of speed from the time it leaves the hand to the time it arrives at the plate. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/the-measure-of-a-fastball-has-changed-over-the-years/
