Things had deteriorated so much that a big reshuffle feels like a good choice as they absolutely have nothing to lose. The issue to me is you should’ve done this reshuffling with moving Harper back to RF 2-3 years ago. He was younger. So there’s less chance he gets hurt and he would’ve not been removed by about four years from playing the outfield. The same thing was Stott now moving the third when he hasn’t played there in four years.Add on if Dave/philloes would’ve had the outside box thinking like I posted multiple times on here to move Harper back to RF then go into free agency where they had what they needed: right handed and power hitters to solve their problem. I don’t wanna hear Bryce really didn’t wanna do it. BS. There were rumors saying that he wanted Pete Alonso when he was willing to move back out there. Multiple times this was reported. Believe it was also said if Christian Walker. And the Phillies couldve found the money because he found the money for Bichette. This was more the Phillies didn’t wanna move him to the outfield because they wanted to get themselves a right handed outfielder. They were dead set on finding one. They kept banging their head against the wall as that right handed outfielder doesn’t really exist in MLB right now. There’s a lack of those RH OFs. So you were never realistically gonna get the guy you really needed there unless you overpaid which they weren’t willing to do or you draft and develop that guy which they can’t do.So instead of doing this two or three years ago, which all it would’ve cost you just money to sign somebody like Alonso or Christian Walker to play first and move Harper to RF. Now costs you one of your better prospects. Add on would’ve saved you the money on not paying Garcia (or Merrifield) and you could’ve moved off Bohm, which would’ve saved you $20.4 million then just signed Luis Arraez in free agency with money saved from Garcia and Bohm and pocketed $7-8 mil in contracts not given to Bohm and Garcia and signing him.And before anybody goes, oh well, you had Castellanos last year and 2024 you couldn’t do it then. No I would’ve just had to be forced to play marsh in centerfield and move casty to LF, which is what they told everyone he was when they dealt for him. Frankly I’d have still made that bader deal last year and platooned casty and marsh in Lf

I’m less mad about him not spending more money than I am keeping Dave. He gave Dave 300+ million roster along with luxury tax. That’s more than any GM the Phillies has ever had. And this roster always had multiple holes that he could never really fill. I’m more upset that Middleton is thinking about extending Dave. That is a colossal mistake. They might actually find themselves in a worse spot than the post 2011 Phillies
4 hours ago4 hr Not talked about enough for the second straight year schwarber HRs later in the season have not been at the rate we’ve seen in previous years. Last year he had a 17 game stretch where we had four home runs, but all four of those homers came in one game and the rest of the games he had zero. He currently has one home run in his last 18 games.

I don’t think Middleton is telling him he has to go sign this guy or sign this guy. I think Dave is telling him who he thinks he should sign, and Middleton gives him the approval of whether or not he wants to give him the money to do it. The only time I think Middleton got involved was when Bryce Harper became a free agent and he overstepped klentak to get that job done.

He can consistently hit, even if it isn't for power if you can get guys on base he has a better chance of bringing them in. They'll never get guys on for him to bring home but I get their logic

53 minutes ago53 min 2 hours ago, LeanMeanGM said:Why would you not have Arraez as lead off?The only logic that I could come up with is that he’s hitting 382 with runners in scoring position. And they believe that if you just put him at the top of the lineup that when you get to Harper at four, you still have the same problem you went into the deadline with. Which is you don’t have any protection behind Bryce because Alec Bohm stinks and Brandon marsh can’t hit left-handed pitching. So in a spot that’s big you’re gonna have to remove Brandon marsh as it’ll be a LHP with schwarber, Bryce and marsh up and put somebody in like de la Cruz. The second part goes back to the whole thing of why I said if you’re gonna move Bryce to the right field, then you should’ve just done an over the last couple years and got an impact that like Pete Alonso or Christian Walker. Saved money on Bohm and Garcia and used it to either upgrade 3B or sign arraez and move Stott to 3b

They just got even worse than they already were before the trade on defense. The cherry on top would be watching Arraez striking out his 1AB because he doesn’t strike out but now that he’s a Phillie it makes sense
