I’d argue our current TEs are better.

Eh, I don't know, Ertz was such a matchup headache for DCs. I feel like you can cover Goedert with a S, but that was just asking for trouble with Ertz. Now granted, Ertz doesn't block nearly as well in the run game, but that was counterbalanced by Celek. I wouldn't argue against a push there, but hard for me to give the edge to this group.

Also upon rewatch… Jordan Davis had a good game!

How many snaps did he have?

They listed the starters for the Super Bowl, so JP was not part of the consideration:

OL

2017: Halapoulivaati Vaitai, Stefen Wisniewski, Jason Kelce, Brandon Brooks, Lane Johnson
2022: Jordan MailataIsaac Seumalo, Jason Kelce, Landon Dickerson, Lane Johnson

Watch the 4th down conversion at midfield on that last long SB drive. Big V escorts 2 Patriots right into Foles like he was an usher and Foles has to go back and to the side to buy that extra half a second to get the throw off. Big V was an awful NFL player in Philly. (I think he is mediocre now, just overpaid in Detroit) He was our Driscoll in 2017.  Wis was scrappy as hell and has great bloodlines but he was a replacement level guard at best. The other 3 were monsters, no doubt.

Preachin to the choir. That might've just been Foles' best play of the game, aside from that throw to Clement.

I think he finished with 16.

CBS took a stab at comparing this team to the one that won it all in '17, but I found myself shaking my head quite a bit with their assessments.

They give the QB edge to Hurts, which I guess is fair because of the limited sample size of Foles, but seeing how well he played in the final two games, you can't just write that off. At best, this should be a push but I'd lean toward giving the edge to 2017 here.

They call RB even, which is hard to argue against. Very different styles of backs, and both had successes in their own right.

WR is clearly an edge to this team. No argument there.

They give 2017 an edge at TE, and I agree

They call OL a push, but I think this should be clearly an edge to this team. This might be the most shocking assessment of their whole piece. We've just been beating the pants off of everyone we've faced. It's not even close in my mind.

They give this team an edge at DT, but I think it's a push, or maybe even an edge to 2017. No discredit to Hargrave, but he's not as dominant as 2017 Cox was, and current day Cox is probably a push with 2017 Jernigan. These DTs have benefitted from the edge rushers far more than those 2017 DTs did.

For Edge rushers, obviously this team is on a whole other level. No argument there from anyone.

The gave the 207 the edge on LB, but I'm not sure on that one either. Bradham was immensely critical to a Jim Schwartz defense, but I really like the pairing of Edwards and White, so I'm thinking this is more of a push.

Obviously our current corners blow the 2017 corners out of the water. Who the F would even try to argue otherwise?

As for S, they gave the edge to the 2017 team, and while I love me some CJGJ, and am not as down on Epps as others, it's also hard to argue against the effectiveness of Jenkins and McCleod. That defense never was as effective once Malcolm left.

For ST, they somehow called this one even. Which is just... like... just no, dude. Just no. The 2017 team was clearly better there. Not sure what the hell they're watching.

And then finally, they called the 2017 team better coached but I lean more towards this being a push. I can see why they'd lean to 2017, but some of that is just because they won it all. If this team beats the Chiefs by 2 scores or more, then it really turns this argument on its face.

Which Eagles Super Bowl team is better? Comparing 2022 lineup to 2017 championship roster

Comparing one team of destiny to another

Blount just ran though guys. We don't have the tackle breaking backs anymore

Coaches had to go through more adversity in 2017 so maybe that's why. Losing so many key players and getting to the SB seems like a greater feat than what Nick and staff has gone through

12 days before the Super Bowl, there is no discussion to be had, and the edge is quite clear.

This can be revisited after the game, but the edge goes to

No, not wrong.  Until Jalen hoists the trophy, there is no discussion.

Do other fanbases compare their SB runs or is it just Eagles fans because some want to say one was better than the other?

The top-tier talent is better on this current Eagles team; the depth was much better on the 2017 team.

The coaching is better on this current team IMO, but Nick will have to go a long way to match the in-game coaching from Doug in SB LII.  Hopefully Nick will have a relatively stress-free game like these first two have been.

At least this team won't have to run a fake walk-through this time around -- because, you know .... they're not having to play against cheating scumbags this time.

This isn’t about SB performances. Hurts is a better QB than Foles.

Foles played incredible, but any team would still take 2022 Hurts > 2017 Foles as their starter.

I wouldn’t. Especially not 2017 playoff Foles vs 2022 playoff Hurts. It’s no contest

Not the 2015 Rams

You can't assess Hurts as a QB and ignore his impact in the run game. See RTK's post in the Hurts thread and look at all the 49ers just glued to the spot staring at Hurts as Boston Scott rambles away in the other direction. Foles ran a bunch of RPOs but nobody was scared of him as a runner.

Foles QB play in those 3 playoff games stands up to almost anyone but you can't just compare passing stats and move on when dealing with Hurts.

The Eagles might throw for 350 or run for 280 in this SB and either way will be in large part because of Hurts play.

Neutral fanbases compare 49ers SB teams and rank best all-time SB teams. Its just something that is done.

So is Reddick going to be paid like a LB or a DE for when he gets a new contract?

he's good for 2 more years , correct

Sigh. Hurts has been good enough these playoffs. Didn’t have to do much against the giants, but got the job done easily. Was not good passing against a good D in SF, but he stepped up and made plays when he had to. He’s a gamer for sure. And he doesn’t turn it over at all.

Foles struggled against Atlanta, but his games against Minny and NE would be nearly impossible to surpass. This doesn’t take anything away from Hurts, but Foles run that playoffs is another level that Hurts hasn’t matched. It doesn’t mean we hate Hurts or think he sucks. Foles was just ridiculous.

Rewatching the game, and holy cow Dre Greenlaw was unraveling early. On the play Hurts got popped, Greenlaw legit speared him. Dove helmet first into his back.

What a loser.

Saw that live and it's what caused me to type that I was glad we injured a bunch of them.

Theyre a dirty defense, thats how they play.  Its exactly how they played vs Dallas.  Im convinced whoever it was was trying to break Pollards legs on that tackle and succeeded

I asked if he was going to get a contract similar to a LB or a DE

No chance.  As much I didn't like Ertz the emo guy, he was a stud. Nice depth with Celek and Trey Burton.  Goedert is good, but not better than Ertz was.  He's a much better blocker, sure.

I think goedert is far better than Ertz. Ertz was an unreal zone buster, but that was it. DG blocks, is physical, can turn screens into big plays, can catch downfield as well. The only real issue I have with DG is untimely drops on what should be easy catches.

I think Ertz was somewhat inflated because there was not many other options around. It was like that one season Jordan Matthews put up "decent” numbers.

Just now, 4for4EaglesNest said:

Even if they are a wash, we had better depth at 2017.  But then again, when you have a QB who is afraid to throw it to the TE, what does it matter?

Ya I think it’s pretty close at TE. Celek /Burton is better than Calcaterra/Stoll, but I think that’s close too. And like I said above I think DG > Ertz so that’s why I lean this group. But it’s razor thin either way
