Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Gannon saying the defense was going to gut the 49ers.

Yeah I was just trying to get someone to post it again.

Like DeVonta I think the body size thing is just an unsubstantiated fear more than an actual analytic prediction.

There have been a few slim and smaller WRs who made it in the NFL. We had one in DeSean. Now he did have his fair share of injuries, but even with that, taking him mid second round was a complete steal. He only fell there because people thought he would break in half (and maybe a character concern or two).

Is there any notable occurances of an undersized QB with immense upside continually taking unusual injuries that caused him to never pan out?

In my opinion, if he can last in the SEC, then he’s probably going to be okay once he gets into his NFL body.

DeVonta Smith's size scared the crap out of me and was the #1 reason I didn't want him in the draft.  My stance on him has taken a complete 180 as he's now my favorite player on the team.  In regards to Young however, the position takes far more pounding than WR, no matter how many WR screens the Eagles try to run with Smith.  No doubt, Young is extremely talented but he doesn't have the frame to really bulk up.  He's going to be able to add lean muscle but he won't really get much bigger.  The Bama scheme in the SEC is nothing like what he will face in the NFL, no matter how good the SEC is.  He's a terrific college player but I just don't see him being able to take the 17 game pounding of an NFL schedule.  Drew Brees was a small NFL QB and even he was 210 lbs.

This begs the question. Did Gannon actually gut those crybaby forty whiners or were they gutless this whole time?

Best response possible

Kinda looks like the same girl

Let's hope she never has to sign for Baby it's Cold Outside.  Can't imagine her wanting to sign such offensive lyrics.

Oh yeah QBs get hurt all the time, of course. Even Young was nicked up this season. But to be such an issue that a team won’t risk taking you even with your immense talent? What is that based on other than fear-based random guessing?

I've actually never seen him play I dont really follow a lot of college ball , how's his arm? Does he have a cannon or a pee shooter?

If he has the requisite arm strength I wouldn't see  his size as an issue

Detmer was slight of frame but he lasted til the late rounds because he also had a noodle arm, plus this was 20+ years ago when the league stuck to their QB prototypes even more than now.

Since shorter guys like Russell Wilson have really opened the door for shorter NFL qbs.

I don't know why you and Matt are making my comment about something else.

I didn't comment on the quality of quantity of their forbade posts.

Veejer was far better.

But the fact remains they both played the same gate keeper role. Veejer was close to 50/50 football posts vs face palms and GTFO style posts, especially if there was a dumb newb invading

In his day,  it worked.  In 4for4s day,  it got him banned.

4x4 wasn't a gatekeeper. He engaged in the exact type of behavior that incensed Veejer. I have no idea who you think 4x4 was "gatekeeping" against, but it's not born out in reality whatsoever. There's a reason why all of us who posted back then are all telling you it's an absolutely ridiculous comparison.

So did Blount.

how does he compare to Charbonnet?

Blount really didn’t run upright, he ran under his pads and had amazing leg drive, good vision and actually a slight bit of burst. Can be hard to evaluate college RBs.  Take Sermon.  Lack of burst was apparent but OSU blocking gave him holes you could drive a semi through.  That’s the case with many college RBs. Or they have enough speed to get to the corner against most colleges they face.  Now Gainwell has improved his vision and has burst. Also need to use the blockers. I haven’t really looked at RBs for the draft much this year.  Kind of a funky year to assess the draft as much depends on development and who Howie signs or extends in the next couple of months.

This week has felt like this

I hope it’s true about they are pissed off and use it on the field

Stroud is the better prospect.  Can’t imagine why a team would take Young over him.

I don’t think Stroud is a franchise QB, btw.  Not sure one exists in this draft class.  I wouldn’t take my chances on a short, skinny one.

I think their OL is underrated.

As a whole, maybe.  The problem is that as a unit it is inconsistent … relatively poor tackles paired with an excellent IOL trio.  So any assessment has to be nuanced.

We're playing in the Super Bowl tomorrow. This is why we put up with awful 4-11-1 seasons, Carson Wentz drama, Howie drafting Reagor, etc.

Just follow the rules on a Message Board....especially this week.

Go Birds.

Exactly. You'd think the people who take the EMB so seriously, call it their home, a place they enjoy being a part of, etc, would be the ones who'd be the most diligent about following the rules. But instead, it's usually the opposite and they are the ones getting warning points and constantly testing the patience of the mods.

4X4 was pretty clearly the main reason Veejer and JR left, FWIW

Exactly, that's why HE's posts are so hilarious. He's trying so hard to paint 4x4 as serving a valuable purpose like Veejer when they couldn't be more polar opposites.

I didn’t pay much attention to it after the 1st week - some animosity was to be expected, especially from some of their fans.

But the pushback from 49ers players during this past week has been beyond ridiculous and over the top, imo.

Most DBs are smaller than Young.  Other than sneaks, does a QB really need to be heavier?  Height seems to be less of an issue with so much shotgun these days. Rarely get injured due to size in reality. Smith is all muscle and frankly looks more muscular this year.

Seeing as a QB has 250lb-350lb monsters trying to get them every passing play I would say yes it matters.
