Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Anyone posting Twitter updates make sure the account is not only verified but a reputable source based on follower count and occupation. Lots of BS info out there.

Some a hole click baiter.

Seriously when I saw that my heart dropped, then I thought who the heck is the source

People can be awful.

Hopefully damar pulls through.

Jesus H this is the scariest, craziest thing I’ve ever seen watching sports.

I hope and pray Damar Hamlin is ok.

Well, I don’t want to make this about me, but maybe a story of hope….even though I spend most of my life in the hospital, my most intimate experience with cardiac arrest was a bit more…direct.

9 years ago my dad had a cardiac arrest while working out on an ergometer.  He was surrounded by BLS certified amateurs who recently took a class with an AED in the gym.  He was shocked 8 times.  No one really knew the duration of the CPR since it wasn’t a professional team keeping track.  They got ROSC…but it wasn’t incredibly fast (can’t be if you needed 8 shocks).

He was deemed unstable in the ambulance as well, but didn’t get intubated.  He was a miracle story and was fine; he rows competitively in the masters division today.

When you hear ongoing CPR, it’s usually pretty dire, but it doesn’t always have to be.

I can’t stand Ryan Clark.

Postponed means that they will resume play. I would assume tomorrow night. The logistics must be a nightmare.

If I had a guess just as a casual observer and not being a MD,seeing the play and the hit I would assume this the most likely cause

Hope the dude pulls through🙏

Well the thing is, with Commotio Cordis it’s 1) pretty rare

2) the trauma is normally more significant. Like a significant mva without an air bag and seat belt but you bend the steering wheel significantly with your chest. Although many hits in the nfl can be compared to an mva.

actually now that I think about it, there are cases of it happening in baseball because of a ball hitting someone in the chest.

hmmm…..

As someone who played HS Football, and has been a die hard football fan for years, I have never felt this level of despair relating to a sporting event.

When they first said CPR, my heart sunk and I legit thought he would die in the next few seconds. Thank God he's at least in the hospital and in good hands.

It could, but depending on his status, tomorrow may be incredibly difficult too if they're still kind of in limbo waiting for news on how he's doing. And also I expect many of them to stay at the hospital all night for support, so everyone's going to be all out of sorts tomorrow, I can't see how it's resumed tomorrow, but who knows.

They could just call it a tie, but they won't.

Good news stories of similar severity are encouraging.  And hopefully Hamlin's youth benefits him as well.  He's a young, extremely healthy individual... outside of whatever triggered this.  Hopefully this turns into another happy ending story... to match @jamiller's from earlier.

The thing is, the guy actually got up immediately after the hit... and then dropped. With a trauma like people are talking about, I’m wondering how he could get up like he initially did.

Call this game a tie, these teams will not be ready to play on short notice, and God forbid bad news comes out between now and then.

Yeah it’s been documented from a just right (just wrong) chest thump.  Exceedingly rare, but one of the only explanations here, along with an undiagnosed (and far less rare) congenital cardiac condition.  But that likelihood drops because it would have had to be missed in all the physicals.

They could also just vacate the game and go by win percentages.  That might be an unprecedented move... but who cares?

Scary stuff.

I love football but it's times like this that I question if it's really worth supporting.

These athletes, these humans, put their bodies and lives on the line to entertain us and sure they are paid well but a game isnt worth a life.

Again hoping he pulls through🙏

Yeah this just isn't realistic to expect them to go out and play tomorrow.

It’s just awful.  I deleted that post right after I posted it as I read some of the comments on Twitter.  Sorry about that.

I think the Chiefs would care, as would a lot of fans of the Bills and Chiefs. It wouldn’t seem fair to award the first seed to Kansas City based on percentage.

If you are Goodell, the solution in these situations really isn’t that complicated.  Just listen.

Get the HC and player’s union rep from the Chiefs, Bills, and Bengals on a zoom call.  Ask them…what do you guys want?  They’ll arrive at one answer.  Then you do that.
