Roger Goodell wasn’t on the moon. He was watching the game and would have been in contact with anybody and everybody in less than minute to take charge of decision making.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Someone quoted the league rules from a Twitter post. Its 100% Goodell.

Even if he was on the moon it would only take 2.5 seconds to message him.

Not to be nit picky, but it would actually take 12.8 seconds to message him (and an equal time to receive an answer back) if he were on the moon.

Sounds like the game will be cancelled in that case

Not sure the bills in 6 days are gonna be up to playing patriots. That’s a lot of compartmentalizing in a short period of time. I’m not sure any of the coaches or players are going to be able to focus on playing and game plan until they know damar is gonna be alright.  If it was a brother of mine i wouldn’t be leaving that hospital until i knew.

I think a lot of that will be determined by the news that comes out on his condition as the days go on.  If he makes a turn around in the next day or two and is going to be ok, I think that it will be easier.  If the news turns worse, I can't imagine the impact.

I'm curious what the league is going to do. Lots of factors considering the playoffs are so close

They canceled the game 30 minutes after the ambulance left the stadium. That's pretty quick.

Look at these reactions. Goodell, "Play on boys"

I reiterate: F YOU ROGER GOODELL

They being the Bills and Bengals, not the NFL. (that's the story so far)

The future of the game has been in doubt for a while with concussions, resulting suicides, etc.  Wondering if this is the beginning of the final death knell for this sport.

A lot might depend on his status. If cross your fingers he's stabilized, alert, and in good spirits in the next day, they might be more likely to try to play a game than if he were still hospitalized and in critical condition in the coming days.

Another thing the NFL has on their hands is if they cancel the game, that would cost the Bills the #1 seed and it's like the Bills are going through this awful situation and then on top of it you're going to punish them in football terms as well. That would be a bad look. But maybe the Bills as an organization would just say we don't care about that right now, all we care about is Hamlin's life, so just give us an L or a tie or whatever and we'll deal with it later.

Yeah, I heard Van Pelt say that... that was him editorializing not exactly reporting.

That is what Joe and Troy said as well. They had 5 minutes to warm up and get the game you.  But then the coaches met and walked off

You think asking them to play in the next day or two will result in their best effort and give them a win?

Anybody here ever had sand flea bites?

I've swam in every ocean, the Mediterranean, the Gulf, the Dead sea, and the Caribbean. Latest vacation after swimming in the water I have these little red spots now. They don't itch, or hurt. They're just there.

This is a terrible freak event.

Goodell can suck wet farts.

I have to hope that the protocol was put in place, and before the protocol time elapsed that the NFL would have intervened and called them off the field.   Sadly, I am not sure that's the case.  I want to believe that the league would do the right thing in that moment... even if they moved a little slow.

It's definitely an odd situation in the football world. No idea what Goodell and those in charge plan to do

It kind of depends what the cause of the episode was. If this is something that was an undiagnosed health issue, that’s not really football related. If it’s something that resulted from trauma, then I could see it causing concern. But I think in the grand scheme of things, it won’t make a dent as far as being some doomsday episode for football. Parents may end up pulling their kids out of football, but it starts on the lower levels and that takes time to materialize. Everyone thought the CTE/concussion revelation would end the game and 10-15 years later both college football and the NFL have never been bigger

Everyone always knew something like this was possible. It hits hard to see it happen live on television, but I think everyone knows this is a dangerous game. It just resonates when you see it happen.

I think @eagle45 hit the nail on the head.

The NFLPA, Bills' players reps, Chiefs players reps and Bengals players reps should get together and present the solution to Goodell and the NFL.  And if the NFL is smart, they will support the decision that they come up to.

No execs from the teams.  No execs from the league.  And the team execs and league execs figure out how to facilitate whatever they decide.

I don't think it will, no.

One thing is clear, tackle football has an expiry date. It might be 20 years from now or 50 years, this sport as is, is not long for the world.
