Any decision on rescheduling of games will be made between the NFL and NFLPA.

When the decision is announced and any public backlash is felt, the NFLPA will join in the outrage and attempt to assert they were not consulted.

Hospital is saying they won’t give an update tonight

I think @eagle45 hit the nail on the head.

The NFLPA, Bills' players reps, Chiefs players reps and Bengals players reps should get together and present the solution to Goodell and the NFL.  And if the NFL is smart, they will support the decision that they come up to.

No execs from the teams.  No execs from the league.  And the team execs and league execs figure out how to facilitate whatever they decide.

What solution?

Chalk it up as a tie and let the playoff chips fall as they may.  There's no right solution right now.

Doctors of the blog- is this done for patient privacy or an indication that there isn’t a medical consensus emerging?

You are likely right... which is why if the NFL is smart... they don't come up with this solution.  They turn this one over to the NFLPA... and the teams involved (Bills, Bengals and Chiefs).  And they make that public knowledge before the decision is made by them of what it will be.  And then the NFL supports the decision of the NFLPA, etc.   And if the league loses a little money in the process... so be it.  If it upsets a few fanbases, so be it.  You make sure that the PLAYERS are satisfied with the solution.

I think there are 3 good assumptions here for game play:

1. The Bills are not playing again this week.

2. The Bills will play next week.

3. Neither team is going to complain much about the impact on their seeding.

If this were a COVID baseball season, you could come up with multiple creative options.  30’ minute Bills/Bengals game next week, Bills ball, score is 2-0 Bengals.  Followed by 30’ Bengals/Ravens followed by 30’ Bills/Patriots.  All in Cincinnati.  Everyone gets a chance to control their destiny.

More likely…they just cancel the game and Bills take the #2 seed and Ravens accept not having a shot at the division.

One thing is clear, tackle football has an expiry date. It might be 20 years from now or 50 years, this sport as is, is not long for the world.

It's the most profitable sports industry in America. People make billions of dollars in this industry and history tells us those making mega money on a product don't just willingly give it up. Football is going nowhere. My money is eventually medical technological innovation creates something at some point in the future to drastically eliminate catastrophic injuries.

Technology increases in orders of magnitudes, so eventually something will be made to really cut down on the life threatening stuff.

Could be both.  No way to really know.

Whatever they come up with.  I lean to vacating this game.  No tie, no win, no loss.  Just win percentage.  But, let the teams work that out.

TBH, I don't think humans won't play the game in 20-30 years

Eh, plenty of reasons to not give a media update yet.  Wouldn't read into it much.

The Games at the Colosseum in Rome lasted 350+ years and only ended due to costs.  I doubt they were nearly as popular or lucrative as NFL football.

Even if boxing is declining in popularity, the UFC is taking their viewership

If I was the hospital, I would do it for patient privacy, and doctors'/nurses' peace.  Each one will be attacked for information as they leave.  Next shift change is likely at 7 am.  Promise something in the morning... and instruct the staff as they leave not to share things to violate HIPAA.   We get spoiled with athletic health updates constantly.  But, this isn't the standard situation and we should protect his privacy and his family's privacy.

Maybe in therapeutic hypothermia for the next day?

Cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly stops beating. Once the heart starts beating again, healthcare providers use cooling devices to lower your body temperature for a short time. It’s lowered to around 89°F to 93°F (32°C to 34°C). The treatment usually lasts about 24 hours.

I agree. Maybe in our lifetime or our kids.  This won't be a sport as it currently exists.  You can't have a sport that has people dying on the field or after they leave it because of it.  I love it but is a dangerous game.

There are a few layers of information protection for patients and the press.

The first is the strongest, which is HIPAA/patient/patient’s decision maker.  If they want to lock down info, they have every right and protection to do so.  The patient’s family (or agent), if privy to this info, is free to discuss with the press and update directly if they like.

Then you have the care team.  With the patient/family approval/request, they can release an update or speak to the press.  They can also decline to do so because they are still collecting information or the situation has not stabilized…or simply because they don’t want to talk to the media at midnight on a holiday without preparing how their hospital is going to present itself.

Not sure the bills in 6 days are gonna be up to playing patriots. That’s a lot of compartmentalizing in a short period of time. I’m not sure any of the coaches or players are going to be able to focus on playing and game plan until they know damar is gonna be alright.  If it was a brother of mine i wouldn’t be leaving that hospital until i knew.

I agree, it is. In a very different realm, when I was in Afghanistan and Iraq (2006-2013) we had injuries/deaths, had "flight line” ceremonies to send the fallen home, and went right back to work. One time in 2010 we went out 7 nights in a row trying to find a group that killed 2 navy dustwun. We went out 14 times to try to find bergdahl.

this is all to say the mind is capable of an enormous degree of compartmentalization when compelled to it. That being said, you pay the price down the road when the compartments come down. I for one hope they don’t do that to these men.

From my paramedic/firefighter buddy...

"Aortic aneurysm is pretty much the kiss of death. No reports releasing diagnosis. Getting pulses back within 10 minutes is a good sign. He is most likely on ecmo now. Gonna be lucky if he makes it through the night."

Two points:

Guardian Caps may be next. (players mostly hated them in training camp)

SB bye week can be manipulated if necessary (not calling for it, just pointing it out)

This is overreaction. Football isn’t going anywhere.

If it was a burst aortic aneurysm you're not getting a pulse back in the field like that.
