It doesn't work that way. If the Eagles waive someone, he cannot be designated to the practice squad and automatically go there. He would have to clear waivers first, running the risk of another team snagging him. The player has no say in the matter. The Eagles got burned two years ago by trying to sneak Casey Toohill through waivers and ended up losing a good depth DE prospect when Washington claimed him.

While that is true.  The timing is very different.   That was at the start of the season at the last cut of TC.   This is the very end of the year.  The claiming team would have to cut someone else that they've had a long relationship (relatively) on their roster.   It is very possible that they would claim a player, but at the same time, the odds are more against it than at the time that Toohill was cut.  It all comes down to the player.   Cutting Sermon certainly wouldn't be a loss of any consequence.  The guy can't sniff the field with this team anyway.  Why use a roster spot on him?

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

Yes.   This is one of the two games that are really the reason that he manages to stick around.  He's a JAG most of the time, but against the Giants... he's like Walter Payton!

Yeah, I know you aren't much of a Scott fan.  To me, he is a solid player for the full roster and the longer the season goes on the more valuable he gets given that he can fill a few different spots.  His KR duties this year are a good example.  He is what he is but sometimes you need a guy with a known floor even though the ceiling isn't that high.

Unless you are a playoff team, I'm not sure what you'd be gaining snatching up Opeta as he's becoming a UFA.  I guess Book and Robinson are valuable positions with remaining contracts... how many spots do we need again? I thought we'd have the 1-week punter by this point - guess not.

One aspect of the waiver system that is unclear to me is what happens during the playoffs. The teams that have been eliminated can presumably be allowed to claim players, but since they have no games yet to play, their 53-man rosters wouldn’t have any maneuverability to them. So if they were to claim someone, would he be a teams 54th guy? That doesn’t make sense or seem fair. Would they then have to cut someone as a corresponding move? Again, that doesn’t make sense for someone to have to be waived once the season is over.

My point is that I’m wondering if there is some advantage for the Eagles to wait until the regular season is over to waive someone like Ian Book. The intent would be to immediately sign him to the practice squad where he would remain until the end of the season, ready for training camp. The risk in waiving him at all these past four months to then put him on the practice squad is the worry that the Saints would claim him right back. (For the record I don’t think Book is any good, but since the Eagles seem to like him, I’m operating with their viewpoint in mind.) So I’m wondering if after the regular season is over, eliminated teams like the Saints wouldn’t be able to make claims. Is there a rule that only teams still in it can make those kind of moves? I doubt any team still alive would want to put Book on their 53 man roster. In this scenario guys like Danarius Robinson and Trey Sermon might be vulnerable to claims by the Vikings and 49ers respectively.

I genuinely don’t know.

You just defined a JAG.

The right to negotiate with him first.  That's about it.

So Jalen is playing on Sunday.

As far as being the #2 or #3 RB, he is a JAG.  No doubt.  We could do a lot better.

Especially on this roster when Hurts runs as much as he does.

I don't mind him, but Boston Scott is easily replaceable.

Why would they have no maneuverability ??  It would be just like any other team or time of year, you can have a 53 man roster, you claim someone, you have to release someone.

IWTETG thread in 3..2..

So what? He’s a reliable good one of those. Many aren’t.

He’s never been #2

So you think Gainwell is the #3 this year?  That's funny.

Howard was #2 in 2021 as well though he did miss a few games.  Clear as day.  Should I continue?

When the season is done for the team, they can go over 53 and sign guys to futures deals.

I think Scott is #2 on the depth chart and in the sense that if Sanders missed time, Scott would become the lead back.

In terms of actual playing time, Gainwell crushes Scott in terms of snap counts, at least this year (311 to 146)

Edit: even with that disparity in snap counts, Scott has 45 carries to KGs 48.

KG has 22 catches to Scott’s 5.

If Hurts is good to go, it doesn’t matter what the Giants do, we’ll curb stomp them just like we did in their house.

What if we don't?

Many of us thought they'd do the same to the Saints.

Any chance Panthers beat the Saints this weekend?

We didn’t have Hurts, we will this Sunday.

The Panthers have been playing much better since they fired Matt Rhule. They should have beaten the Bucs last week but blew it. I think they can win but with Sam Darnold as the QB they could implode any time.

I think Hurts is probably going to play but I also think reporters caught Sirianni off guard with "is he cleared for contact?"

What is the highest our pick can go and same question the lowest?
