This is the mentality that I’ve found annoying the past three weeks.

"Dallas lost to Jacksonville so this game isn’t as important and Minshew can probably win it.”

"It’s the Saints at home. They’re terrible and they can win this game even without Hurts.”

”It’s the Giants backups. They should be able to roll over them.”

Lackadaisical mentality for the last month of the season and then people just expect them to flip the switch come playoff time. It doesn’t work that way.

If minshew plays and there is no realistic game plan to mitigate his deficiencies bye bye one seed 🤷‍♂️

I am somewhat surprised they waived an olineman, since they now essentially only have eight with Lane unavailable. Maybe this is good news about his availability in the playoffs?

I think it was a calculated gamble that they won’t need him between now and the end of the playoffs. They opted to dress Sills over him this past weekend so he was really the last man of the group. Then you look at how they started the window on Toth the other day. I guess they think that if a scenario were to arise where the last lineman would be needed, they could simply opt for Toth instead.

There is also a reasonable chance Opeta clears waivers and makes it to the practice squad, although I think that would have been unlikely earlier in the season.

The fact that people are talking about a need to not play him is concerning.  The fact that he is limited after he could have played 2 weeks ago and was definitely playing 1 week ago is concerning.  The fact that he was still limited today is concerning.

We have not been told the full extent of his injury at any point during this process.

Isnt that a self contradictory argument? On the one hand you’re saying the Eagles haven’t told the extent of his injury while you simultaneously claim that he was definitely playing last week. Definitely according to who? Since the Eagles haven’t  told us anything, it couldn’t have been them.

This "neutral site" game could serve as a precursor for the NFL making it permanent. Think of how much money and economic activity the NFL generates with the Superbowl and the Draft. I could see the NFL commissioning a study about how conference title games could go the way of cities bidding for hosting rights.

Agree with your thoughts 100% but hate that as the outcome.   Half the battle of clinching homefield is for the chance to have that advantage the entire length of the playoffs.  You can bet the NFL would find a way to screw fans and it would become more corporate taking away any advantage for either team.  I really hope this never happens.

Is that Dr. Jack Fritz?

Three games up with three to play there was never a consideration to play Hurts in Dallas with a sprained throwing shoulder

Two games up with two to play I'm sure the Eagles would have liked to have Hurts in the lineup against the Saints, but he likely wasn't ready

This Sunday will be crucial for playoff seeding.  If Hurts can go at all, he will be playing.  If he's not in the lineup for this game it will be fair to speculate on his availability for a wildcard round game.

Surprising move. They must really like Sills.

Janarius Robinson is next (IR)

Keeping Nate Herbig as OL6 was the move to make if you ask me.

Go full bore, open up the playbook, go f'ing nuts, win the game. THEN REST.

So many dumb takes.  WIN THE f'ing GAME!

Sit Jalen this week and he’ll be playing next week.

We do know the injury was an ac joint sprain, and that it was a minor one, since he couldn't have stayed in the game if it was the more serious type.

He would also not have been practicing last week if it was a more serious injury.

There are also examples of qbs playing the next week after this type of injury, though there is a risk because it could get a lot worse if the player takes a similar hit before the joint is fully healed.

So I think it is pretty easy to conclude the Eagles were being cautious by keeping him out, and could decide to rest him again if the Giants are going to play backups (which will be the case if they make Davis Webb active) but that his injury isn't any more serious than what has been reported.

Nobody asked you, Jack.

It makes sense for Hurts be active and get snaps this week; going into a playoff game cold may not serve him well. But on the proviso he protects himself as best as he can.  As for Opeta, the most logical move they can roster wise

Be interesting to see what they do with the Punter position too.

It's not an AC joint sprain

thing is though, hurts still calls his own number too much, exposes his body to the defense way too much, maybe he's learned since chicago, lets hope

I think that's clearly the goal, as they opted to release him today so he clears waivers tomorrow.

This also ties into your earlier question about waivers in the post season, I found this.

Quote

The waiver period runs from the first business day after the Super Bowl through the end of the NFL’s regular season.

https://operations.nfl.com/updates/the-players/nfl-waiver-system-overview/

So if a player is claimed via waivers at any point during the post-season, he doesn't join the team until after the Super Bowl. Eagles are waiving Opeta today because it's harder for teams to claim him tomorrow and make a corresponding move vs if they waived him tomorrow any team could claim his rights and block him from going to the PS. If someone clears waivers during the post season, they become free agents and can sign with a playoff team (although I think the limit for this is 4 players can be signed).

He does.  But equally, him having to sit out 2 weeks and see 2 losses could quietly penetrate his head and make him think, maybe my health is a bigger factor than I thought.  I know he's a hard headed chap, but last week would have been a chastening experience for him

Does not change the roster status on anyone.  IR or suspended, they are still not on or eligible to be on the 53, and there is no limit to players on IR.

@LeanMeanGM  Almost forgot...Eagles 36 Giants 13

BONUS: An Eagles linebacker gets an interception.
