So can a lineman who goes too far down field walk himself back to within a yard to avoid a penalty? Does this happen?

I believe the penalty is only about when the pass is thrown... but it might mean at any point in the process.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

The core similarity is that both teams were the NFL's finest powerhouse all year long and then the wheels fell off, largely due to injuries, at the very end of the season.

Biggest difference was that the LT filling in seemed to be more competent than the RT filling in right now... and the QB playing in 2017 was healthy, albeit a backup - the QB starting now may not be healthy.

Both defenses were predicated on the pass rush, and both were actually fairly susceptible to the passing game.

In theory it could happen but there’s no way I can ever see that happening in an actual game.

I thought that call on Dickerson was very weak.

Part of what the refs look for with the illegal man downfield is if he is engaged in a block. If he is and isn’t obnoxiously far down field, they usually let it go. When they are aimlessly down field for no reason, they are more likely to call it. Same thing happened last year with Andre Dillard who was just standing 5 yards downfield and not engaging in a block with anyone.

My complaint isn't with the blowout.  My complaint is with the competitive imbalance across the board.  The championship game merely highlights that problem.   The playoff has the same half dozen teams vying for 4 spots and the rest of the college football world is just hoping to sneak one team in the final 4.

This has been a problem with the college game for decades though. At least now the subjectivity has been mostly removed from the equation so that the worst possible outcome, split championships, are thankfully no longer a possibility.

We were the league's top pass defense in the regular season this year.

Yet the semi finals were absolutely epic.  1 decided as time expired, and the other the school that should not have been there taking down the mighty Wolverines.

Just like any game, some teams buckle under the pressure, some teams bring their absolute A game.

Chiefs were the best team in the NFL, and Tampa Bay absolutely blew their doors off in the Super Bowl, it happens.

A question for the blog before I crush bacarty some more, what is considered a blowout in a college or NFL game ??

I have googled, and there is no consensus number.  Saying anything that is not a 1 score game is a blowout is a little ridiculous.

Looking at college, 40% of college football games back to 2005 have a margin of victory of 14 or less points, is 14 points a blowout ??

What do you say the number is for college ??

Negative.  If people are going to make hot takes, I am going to do the research and destroy that hot take.

That is who I am, that is what I do.  @HazletonEagle will tell you I am wired that way.

There was much better depth on the 2017 Eagles team.  They were able to lose Wentz, Peters, Sproles, Hicks, Maragos, etc. and still be the best team in the NFL.

If this Eagles team lost Hurts, Lane, Gainwell, White, and any ST guy I doubt many would pick them to win the Super Bowl

I wouldn't pick them to win the divisional round

closest comparison at RB.  Sproles wasn't the lead RB in 2017, either.

Ah. gotcha. Thought you were trying to imply Gainwell was critical to the offense or something.

Which specific play are you referring to? Often times, the OL has no idea if the result of these RPOs is going to be a run or pass. The onus is usually on Hurts to get the ball out quickly to avoid the flag.

Erased a 22 yard pass to Boston Scott in 4th Quarter, and the drive stalled.  Not sure Scott would've been open without Kelce's help, but damped the momentum after the AJ TD and Goedert just had a 15 yard pass to start this drive.

To bad you were not around when bacarty said that Bo Jackson was over rated.

It's supposed to rain in San Francisco on Saturday. Best chance for a Seahawks upset.

Yeah on this particular play it might have been just a brain fart judging by the rest of the OL's positioning. Usually they end up tighter to the LOS on RPOs where as both tackles and guards look to be in their pass pro sets and widths.

That's not even an RPO
