The Eagles offense is in a tricky position with the OL.

I say this a bunch, but this offense is built around weaponizing the OL.  We’ve seen their unique RPO and how many OL downfield penalties they get.  They are pushing downfield on a high percentage of even our passing plays, attacking and punishing the DL, rather than simply kicking back and setting a pocket.

Lane Johnson is the best RT in the NFL (and has terrible availability)…and is on the very short list of best overall linemen in the nfl.  Mailata isn’t really on an elite list due to persistent pass protection issues, but he is a weapon when attacking upfield.  Dickerson…mauling weapon.  And Kelce is the best in the business, especially when neutralizing second level defenders.

The functionality of this offense, however, relies on that.  It’s what blends well with the dual Hurts threat and makes it great.

When you replace Lane with a merely good RT, you’ll have a right side of the OL that can’t punish defenses or open holes in the running game…our whole offense becomes easier to defend.

So while Driscoll hasn’t been good at all, he’s also in an impossible situation.  The offense is built to rely on ferocious play from the bookend tackles.  This isn’t the Chiefs just plugging in a new OL and asking them to keep the pocket clean so that they can lean on 40 passes per game.  That’s an easier ask of a new OL.

We need all pro level play for the offense to click.

Not sure that's true.  We've not have a 'merely good RT' to fill in when Lane has missed games.  Driscoll is a sub-par RT.  He has short arms which makes it harder for him.

The irony of this post is startling.

Shawn Andrews career was over when he left the Eagles... even though he had a cameo with the Giants.   And each year he was with the Eagles, he was "a Guard".

Yet, your question was, "Was Shawn Andrews ever 'a guard'?"  Yes.  He was a guard for his entire time with the Eagles.  The 'plan' might have been to move him to RT eventually.  It never happened.  He was a guard here.

You and I disagree.  In my opinion he was always a Tackle playing Guard. Your opinion is different.  Reasonable people can agree to disagree reasonably

I’m not where the irony lies in my post or in the NFL player page I linked.

Would suck to lose them all. However if we somehow ended up with reich as OC and fangio as Dc I’d be pretty stoked

I thought Fangio was going with stupid face Payton where ever he gets hired?

The Eagles, especially under AR and Banner, never exactly put future plans into print…but the unspoken word at the time was that Andrews was drafted to replace Runyan, not Tra.  Runyan was declining in pass protection when Andrews was drafted and no one was sure how much time he had left.  He really remained an iron man and held up nicely for a few more years than expected.

Then they found themselves caught without a LT in the post-Tra era after they realized Justice couldn’t handle it and they threw Andrews out there even after they knew he had mental health issues.  From a purely physical and talent perspective, he probably could have handled it.  But I don’t think they ever truly planned on having him as their LT.

Yes but I think you are confusing the Andrews. Stacy was signed and played LT. I don’t remember Shawn ever lining up there.

Andrews was never scheduled to be the LT here.  He was drafted in '04.  Thomas was here and they plugged him in at RG... looking to put him at RT when Runyan retired.  Andrew missed the '09 season with the back issue... they were trying to put him at RT, as they had just traded a first round pick for Jason Peters to be the LT.  They tried to bring in Stacy Andrews to play RG and have him help steady Shawn so he could play at RT.  Both failed miserably here and RT and RG was manned for all 16 games by Winston Justice and Nick Cole, respectively.   I don't believe Andrews ever lined up at RT for the Eagles even in a preseason game.  He was gone after that.

Yea you have a better memory than me. I remember now he was brought in the play next to his brother. I confused that mess with the replacing Peters for a year he tore his Achilles with Demetress Bell mess.

Not for the Eagles.  He did for the Giants.

Maybe he does. I don’t think that’s a lock. It’s not a given stupid face even comes back this year. He might not love any of the jobs that area open.

Both #7 seeds are almost double digit underdogs. I know it doesn’t make sense and won’t happen but it would be better if the 7th seed was a play in game between 7th and 8th seeds. I’d much rather watch Lions/49ers and Steelers/Bills than the current games.

There's some bad luck there. Miami with their #3 QB + neither the Packers/Lions getting in.

Call it the tale of the tipsy, sexy, MILF fiddler in your band. It takes lots of twists and turns.

If AJ didn't let that INT go through his hands they win that game. Doug letting it go to the 2 min warning would have been nice as well

It’s the third straight year the #7 seed games have been lackluster

The offensive lineman that's really growing on me in round 1 of the draft that should be able to play inside or outside is Broderick Jones. Pick 10 feels slightly rich right now but it's early. He could have a great combine which I anticipate and elevate himself to the top ten. Initially I didn't want to go o-line round 1 but Jones seems like a good fit if Howie and company feel Lane is almost done. I like Jones over or just as much as some of the consensus top tackles in this draft.

Plus Fangio is already an Eagles consultant so there’s already familiarity and comfort by both parties.

Reich would be the home run hire but I’d suspect the job is already tabbed for Brian Johnson.

There is no doubt that Driscoll has been bad.  My point is just that even good won't be good enough.  We are built to rely on exceptional.

Well the first dominoes are about to fall.   If the Seahawks pull the upset.  The Birds will play them next. If they don't'.  It will be down to the Bucs, Cowboys and Giants.  So we could know as early as this evening or late Monday evening.
