Do you want me to base this research on total points or total yards ??

The fuller the season of stats, the more context is removed from the exercise. Purdy, for instance, only factors in part of that winning streak. There’s no assurance he could have won all 11 games himself, regardless of how good his run has been. The same considerations can be taken for the opponents too. While it’s fascinating to look up what Arizona was in week 3, does that really factor into the team SF played at the end?

Offense DVOA for those 11 opponents from the point they played SF until the end of the season.

For example, week 9 opponent Offensive DVOA weeks 9-18

Week 10 opponent Offensive DVO week 10-18

etc

I’d be beyond stunned if they fired McDermott, especially after the leadership he showed after the Hamlin situation.

Yup, not buying that McDermott's seat is even remotely warm right now.

I don’t think he ran out of ideas. His offensive structure is pretty much the same as in Philly. Maybe his ideas were good but a lot of folks around him failed.

Things might have looked better if Scangarello wasn’t foisted upon him because Howie and Lurie didn’t like Press Taylor enough.

This. The Howie and Lurie combo have fired 3 head coaches. Well 2 of them seem to be doing just fine elsewhere.

But to be fair, so are we so I guess everyone wins.

I do wish we treated Andy and Dougie P better. Especially Dougie P - will forever admire and honor that man.

I can see Gannon blowing a 27-0 lead the way he calls defenses.

I don't see this team blowing a 27-0 lead.  I HAVE to believe that they would run the ball more effectively, and would actually call runs, and the clock would tick out before the come back is completed.  I also think our kicker makes the kick.  Sorry Dicker the Kicker, Elliott is better.

He’s also the only coach the new ownership has ever had, and they’ve only known contention under his leadership. I’d venture they’d even be willing to suffer through some bad seasons before they consider anything like that. He’s becoming their Philly Big Red

Lol Chargers.

Take away the meaningless week 18 game but the chargers defense has turned the corner over the last 9 games. Giving up 18.2 ppg in the last 9 (excluding week 18). In the last 4 prior to the meaningless week 18 game, 11ppg. Opponents weren’t good in those last 4 games but early in the season they couldn’t stop anyone

It’s like the playoff game was their season in reverse.

The Chargers mistake was attempting a field goal on 4th and 3. I think that’s where the Eagles have an advantage.

Brandon Staley has to go.

Lurie was right. Doug struggled to get a staff. He still has that problem in Jacksonville! Lawrence solves so many problems.

Let me know where to get DVOA stats, I don't really buy into a lot of that nonsense so I don't pay for it, as it is what happened, then interpreted by someone about what might have happened.

I had already put together a crude list of the opponents and the PPG and YPG for the season.

Eagles played 1 team that averaged more than 350 YPG, 49ers played 4.

Eagles played 4 teams that averaged move the 325 YPG, 49ers played 7

Eagles played 4 teams that averaged more than 20 PPG, 49ers played 5

Common opponents, Arizona and Washington

49ers allowed 10 and 13 points to Arizona, Eagles allowed 17

49ers allowed 20 points to Washington, Eagles allowed 32

I am not saying the 49ers are the 85 Bears, or are some unstoppable force on defense, but fans get their blinders on and are unable to look at other teams objectively.

NYG/Vikes line has shrunk to -2.5.

Insanity. The public now believes the Giants are better than a 13-win team.

This Vikings team is weird. They are 13-4 on Jefferson and clutch. Its not a 13 win roster. It does not mean they have been "exposed" They are just another version of the 2001 Bears.

Football Outsiders has NY 21st in DVOA and Minny at 27th.

They played earlier in the year and it was a last second field goal game.

The Giants probably have to get up by 10 because if its only 6 then the Vikings find a way to win late.

@downundermike  All you need to do is register for free on Football Outsiders. They will try to upsell you but you get the stats for free.

McDermott doesn’t get the credit he should because he comes from a defensive background. He has built the organization back into a winning one. I think his defensive background leaves him open to more scrutiny in a game that is more and more favorable for offenses. So if they end the season in another shootout loss the question will be is he enough of a coach to get them over the hump. He is more likely to be blamed for that kind of loss than a head coach from an offensive background.

So analyzing the last 11 with Hurts ( 10 - 1 )

7 were .500 or below

3 were the 9-8 Steelers and 2 were the 9-7-1 Giants.

1 was the Cooper Rush Cowboys.

Opponent winning percentage

SF - 43.14

Phi - 39.41

Thanks but I wasn't really trying to compare them with the Eagles.

I know SF is good.  I stated that in my post.

I just think people are stamping their ticket to the SB a little too early.

I don't think anyone is stamping anything, just that they are a legitimate team with a legitimate defense.

My main concern, is zone defense, and the middle of the defense against Deebo, Kittle and CMC.

I literally turned game off and  went to sleep and woke up and jags won, how in Gods name.

His staff is still full of people who he knows, not recruited. Both his coordinators are guys he had on a previous staff and played with.

Doug is still a good HC. However, his staff will never be a strength until he branches out.

Curious why it felt right to show both point totals SF allowed vs Arizona but omit when Philly played Washington and only allowed 8. What was that about blinders?

What were the win/loss scenarios of these games the teams played against higher ypg teams?

And that wasn’t even my point I was making. Philadelphia is an offense SF has only seen the likes of once this season, KC, and they got blown out of the building in that game. Furthermore, Miami was the only other top 10 offense they even played all year. They had a very favorable schedule in that department, especially down the stretch.

It would have been one thing if the game came down to the wire and they were competitive at all in the second half, although giving up a 27 point lead is still pretty inexcusable even in that scenario. But they clearly had no answers to the adjustments the Jaguars made. You'd think at least defensively, a defensive-minded head coach could have come up with something, but nope.

Its because Wentz was the QB for that game so it doesn't count.

This is a trend that I hope continues
