I’m thinking of position groups that we could conceivably borrow from in order to dress all the defensive linemen that we’d like to have, and I’m thinking about linebacker and tight end. I’m not sure it’s essential that we activate both of our sixth round picks, Kyron Johnson and Grant Calcaterra. Sure it’d probably be nice to be able to employ three tight sets on occasion, but couldn’t Cam Jurgens fill that third spot a few times instead? And Johnson never plays defense anyway. I could also make a case for Josh Jobe.

Just wondering aloud. My mind drifts to Eagles football almost constantly, especially at a time like this.

Getting ready to walk out the door to head to the stadium. Same thing I said five years ago....when I get home, I'm either going to be really depressed or extremely jubilant. Later gents.

It’s possible I may have felt that way back then since that would have been before three of their five Super Bowls. I also can’t speak to their fans and hype back then since it was well before I started watching the game, but even today, my hatred for Dallas is so great that I think I’d still root for a road game in San Fran over playing home against Dallas.

The fans and hype back then was real, but I understand your point.

Top 10 could include 3-4 QBs, 1 WR (Addison), 2-3 DL (Anderson, Carter, Wilson), 2 OL (Jones, Skoronski), 2 CBs (Gonzalez, Porter) and other (Robinson, Meyer).
Too many good options so someone has to fall.

If Richardson gets to 10, it could be fun.

Could be two WRs with the TCU WR being the second.

My goals for any NFL season are:
1. Eagles win

2. Dallas loses

3. I don't care what happens

I'm never going to root for the Cowboys to advance in any playoff game. If that means losing to the 49ers then so be it. I never want them to get close to another Super Bowl as long as I live.

Agree

I have him as my number and not that close. His pocket presence and calmness with everything going on around him is just elite.

And when is the last Ohio QB to do anything in the pros? Stroud vs Michigan didn't handle pressure very well and he isn't great outside of the pocket

Agreed. His arm strength and accuracy is also better

Stroud, Anderson, and Young are all going in the top 5… No speculation needed. If anyone moves up to take another QB after that, there’s a significant chance Jalen Carter is sitting there at 6. That would be the dream get for us. Wouldn’t take a lot more than NO’s 2024 2nd rounder

I'd rather not trade that 2nd rd pick and stay put at 10. Wilson or Murphy might fall

Ouch

After watching these games this weekend, one thing I learned is get the ball to your playmakers. AJ and Smitty need to have huge games

Run the ball as well

How is the QB class this year?

Send a message to @Original Sin and now that the full season is in the books he’ll give you his take, which should be a solid take.

I've done that before. Wouldn't recommend

Inactives:

  • Book
  • Maddox (or Jobe, should Maddox play)
  • Sermon
  • Sills
  • Kyron Johnson

If Siposs is back, we simply put Kearn on the practice squad as we have unlimited elevations in the players.

Patrick Johnson may be active for ST, but he shouldn't get a single snap on defense.

Just pencil Anderson or Carter at 5.

Bradberry and CJGJ being available for relatively cheap last season isn't a predicter that the same caliber players will be available next season.  Otherwise why didn't they add them in 2021 instead of relying on Nelson/McPherson and Anthony Harris.  White has been up and down but still an upgrade over Singleton.  I do think LB can be upgraded through shorter term deals and draft picks.  I am concerned that Gannon does not play his younger talent and that impacts the ability to replace JAG vets with possible better younger talent.

While I agree that teams have defensive lapses and coverage failures that are not avoidable.  The problem isn't that as much as QBs completing 80+% of their passes against the defense.  That kind of completion percentage speaks to either big holes in zone coverage that shouldn't be there or predictable coverages that are easy to disect.  I think it's a combination of both when the defense looks bad.

The cupboard isn’t bare for Howie to roll out the same strategy this Offseason.  My post below lists some of the options he might have.

In addition, just like Howie did with the Bradberry, why trade for a player who seems destined to be released sooner rather than later.

on that subject, what CBs in situations similar to Bradberry’s do you think Howie has his eyes on?  Cameron Sutton?  Byron Murphy?  Rock Ya-Sin?  Patrick Peterson? Jamel Dean?  Other?

I lived in Dallas from 1989 through 1996.  It was hard being an Eagles fan then, but watching Emmitt Smith handle himself so positively while Aikman got all the good old boy love, it was hard to be a 100% Cowboys hater.  But 99.44% was all I could get up to.

As far as all those decisions to make with our pending FA's...

Look for what 25-26 year old pending FA's there are at CB/S/OL/DE/DT.  That's where Howie excels.  Find those players and sign them.  For us, CJGJ fits that description, so he's the priority to re-sign over the rest.  If there is some potential stud external UFA in that age range that can lock down one of those positions at an upgraded level for years, then I'd make that happen and save money by letting the rest of our old farts walk.  CJGJ + a big ticket FA upgrade at one of those spots + use our picks to replace the rest.

Any word on Maddox? When he got injured, it sounded like he'd be out for a while.

Yeah go out and watch the game. It’ll be over by 11. Then you can look for random non-binaries to make out with. I’ll give you @olsilverhair’s number

Do do have a crush on me?

The other area Howie will be looking at will be players from the 2020 Draft who are going into the final year of their rookie contract.  If their current team doesn’t believe they can re-sign the player they may be willing to let him go in a CJGJ type trade.

He didn't practice on Friday. My guess is he probably won't be ready to go this week but we'll know more on Wednesday I think.
