I don't think the Eagles would have kept Book on the final 53 all year if they didn't view him as that developmental / future QB2 guy.

Good time to remind: if you just want act like middle school cliques trolling and insulting each other go to RnR.

  • Just take a moment to realize how easy things look for this offense when the quarterback is right. This team just scored 28 points against a divisional opponent in a half. Just insane where things cou

Not sure there is a shortage of average qbs, so drafting one early seems like a bad idea. Just pay Minshew $2 million next year and call it a day.

No way. Eagles almost lost #1 seed because of him. Hurts had to play hurt last game against Giants to clinch #1 seed. They need a backup QB that fits Sirianni's system.

I wouldn't lose my mind over one game. He has a pretty good body of work, and looked great against the Cowboys. On a cheap deal he makes a lot of sense. And it gives Book one more year to develop.

I'd imagine they have some sort of FA on the roster, too. I was talking with the assumption that if they were to take a guy, when would it be.

Yes, I agree. FA of sorts and a developmental kid in the mid rounds seems realistic.

Tyrod?

The problem is when you go to Minshew you have to completely change the offense. The offense is built around Hurts dual threat capabilities, so moving to a QB that can run that throws the entire offense out of whack.

They need to bring in a backup that has a skill set more similar to Hurts. That way if he does miss time, you can at least continue to call the same types of plays with the backup in the game.

That was my first thought but pretty sure he’s under contract for one more year.

Fixed that for ya

Unless Hurts is afraid of competition.  I mean he did leave Bama because he got benched.

You are absolutely wrong! He stayed and competed for the job and lost. He was our back up QB that year and came in during the SEC championship game when Tua got hurt and won the game for us, that eventually put us in the National Championship Game!

He also stayed because he wanted to graduate from Alabama and had only 1 year left to complete his degree in 3 years. If you really want to know the truth, and not what you have made up in your main, read this article about what actually happened with Jalen and how it was Saban who encouraged him to transfer to OK.

Speaking of girlfriends, Jalen has a cutie GF and she seems like she has her head screwed on straight.  Not some professional athletes wife who is also a social media influencer and all that BS.

Yeah I heard she's a lot like Jalen. And it's basically taken him 3 years to introduce the media and fans to his girlfriend which I think is nice.

He has four starts for us in two years and has thrown for 1,100 yards, 7 tds and a 92.8 rating. I am not sure how out of whack the offense was, especially since we scored at will against the Cowboys a week earlier.

I’d personally love to have Minshew back but I think he will want more money and a genuine chance to compete for the starting job, which he won’t get here.

I’m going to take myself out of the equation and bring in some intelligent Hurts sceptics. @Swoop @Bwestbrook36 @Mike030270. Do you think it’s sensible to draft a QB in the first or second next year?

No. You can find Hurts backup in the later rounds

It's not even worrying about how well Hurts would take the competition. It's a bad idea to draft a backup QB that high. I didn't like drafting Hurts that high when we already had a starter

Yeah to be honest I wouldn’t be worried about how Hurts would take it. I actually think he would respond fine.

I didn’t like drafting Hurts either at the time. But it’s pretty clear now that there were concerns about Wentz and they wanted a plan B/alternative.

But you just don’t take a backup QB in the first 2 rounds.

It’s absolutely possible. He’s not a 1st round pick, he only has 1 year of pro bowl caliber play, and most importantly Philadelphia is not necessarily invested into him the way ARI was with Kyler. They had to do that deal right then or it’d set their franchise back years if he tried to squirm out of there.

Matt Stafford’s deal last year would be more apt a comparison, something that says, "We recognize your value to the team, thank you for winning us a ring, but we don’t HAVE to do this right now.” Stafford signed for 40m$ AAV, which was lower than what Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, et al signed before him.

If Philadelphia signs Hurts this summer, it’ll be because they came to an agreement that is in Philly’s favor. Resetting the QB market is not. Conversely, waiting to be a FA and get franchises a bunch of times in a row will cost Jalen far more money than signing for 45m$ per now, which he probably wouldn’t get from another team anyway.

Sorry, Hurts isn't signing for no less than 50mil per season.  The only issue will be the guarantee monies. Great time to be an EAGLE fan!

He did not play well against the Saints, but the coaches also did not coach well that day.

He did more than enough to beat the Cowboys in Dallas, the defense decided to ish the bad that day.

100%  Thats what the Ravens do.  They first had RG3 backup Lamar and now its Huntley.  They need a backup with very similar traits as Hurts.,  Minshew looks like he's running against a hurricane when hes on the move.

Jets or Bucs could make sense for Minshew.

Yeah they moved the ball against Dallas but also turned it over four times. And part of those numbers is the Jets game last year.

There are some good QBs in the draft this year that would make great back ups to Jalen due to the way they play like Jalen.

I'm not sure what round he will go in, but Malik Cunningham from Louisville would be the top candidate. I think he might come off the board in 2nd round #12 in class

Adrian Martinez out of K State is also really good. Rated the 14th QB in class.

Dark horse would be Gerry Bohanon out of South Florida, basically getting a really fast linebacker for a QB. #21 in class

They did the same thing with Sinnett. I think they want a full offseason/TC and will make their evaluation of what exactly he is then.
