Ecstatic over last night!

With that said, Safety is a bit concerning to me.

Blankenship is a great tackler but takes sime bites and bad angles on pass coverage.

Wallace hasn't shown much more than being a practice squad contributor.

Edmunds is meh, and steelers didn't hesitate on letting him go. Talking with some Steelers fans they didn't have a whole lot of good to say about him.

Evans is just about a complete unknown at this stage.

Hopefully tonight we upgrade here followed by oline depth.

Understood but Edmunds was a 1, Evans a 2 and Wallace a 4 so I'm not so sure what the odds are of a new pick coming in and starting right away either. Not saying not to try but I don't think your odds of an actual 2023 upgrade are that great

Looking at the Eagles picks for 2024, it appears that they will have a good amount of 5th round compensatory picks.  They also have a 5th rounder from the Reagor trade that could become a 4th if Reagor meets certain conditions (40 passes or 500 yards or 5 tds).

Would you be willing to trade that pick to move up today and bet that Reagor will continue to suck?  You would think that pick has more value since there are conditions that could be possibly met.

Betting that Reagor will continue to suck seems safe.

Mims is him

Looking at our draft picks, I'm struck with the variety of fronts Desai can use effectively.

Your standard front four with Sweat and BG at DE.

The light box with two tough DTs and two stand-up edge rushers.

A 4i with a powerful NT and two strong DE/DTs, which with a slight shift, converts to a Bear front.

We got bigger AND faster.

Love it.

Does anyone have a clip of ABC's coverage of the draft for the Nolan Smith pick? It was a different crew.

I'm concerned about the safety position, but also concerned over drafting a safety round 2.

Safety is a position with far fewer draft-able prospects than edge, CB, WR, OL, etc.  Difference makers are rare...you see one that projects as such every other draft (if that)...and they go round 1.  Round 2 is usually for a safety or two that project as viable starters.

Isn't that, by definition, a need pick?  I think the Eagles, over the years, have done a really nice job of converting CBs into safeties and finding adequate starters for cheap.  Is an adequate starter at the cost of a second round pick a win?  Would you rather draft a safety in round 2 or a more athletic, more fluid, more coverage-capable CB later in the draft and coach him into a safety?

I thought the whole point of adding all these average veteran safeties in the offseason was so that we don't have to burn another second round pick on Nate Allen.

I still can't believe Gibbs went 12

Your probably right but the any of these guys on the list below are probably better on day 1 than what we have now.

Brian Branch, Alabama. Height: 5′ 11⅝” (28th percentile) Weight: 190 (3rd)

Sydney Brown, Illinois.

Antonio Johnson Jr., Texas A&M.

Jammie Robinson, Florida State.

Its not that Gibbs is a bad player and maybe someone was lurking at 20 to take him, but trade back to 17 or 19 and get some more assets to then overdraft him by 10 picks instead of 17.

The same with the LB at 18 who would have been there at 24 even if someone was lurking for him at 28.

The Lions will take my advice and use him as a slot WR.  I bet he takes more snaps next season as a slot than he does at RB.

They’ll probably go with mixed looks,  but they are starting to accumulate some pretty prototypical personnel to lean into a 3-4 if they want.

Nah a combo of 4/3 including 4i with some 5/2, which really isn’t a traditional 3/4 because Sweat/Graham will play a traditional DE role but the SAM looks more like a 3/4 rush OLB. Smith plays the run very well. The DL is looking more these days like a hybrid approach like coverages have evolved to hybrids with Man Match, MOD, MEG, Cover 6, inverts etc.  Belichick, Saban and Patterson (college) and to some degree the Ravens line of DCs are architects of these varying schemes. The fact the Eagles have brought in a succession of defensive advisors with experience in those defenses bodes well for the future. But prototyping is the antithesis of what is going on in defense.  (If Patricia can make amends with Slay, the leader of the secondary, then he could be a great hire.  His value will be in the coaches meetings).

Listened to an interview with him on Sirius the other day.  Seemed like a good kid.  Pat took him to task for his pass pro at the senior bowl.  He said he knows he needs to really work at it to get better.  But, overall, liked what I heard.

Every college rb is weak in pass pro. Gimme the smart hard working over achiever

I don't know nearly as much about scheme as you guys, but this makes me happy:

5: Sweat, Carter, Davis, Cox, Reddick

2: Dean and Morrow

4: Slay, Bradberry, Blankenship, Edmunds

Rotate in Milton for Cox/Carter, BG for Sweat, Smith for Reddick...good luck everyone

It’s so much worse than that. They were picking 6 with Bijan on the board; they moved down to 12 for only a 2nd round pick. So they not only took Gibbs at 12, but believe Gibbs and a 2 are superior to Bijan

Drag racing at speeds in excess of 100 mph.  Alcohol was involved.  And he fled the scene when the accident happened.

At least, that's how I understand it.  As for Peters... I did not know that.  And that is an issue if it is drag racing on public streets.  It is less concerning on a private course.  Carter did it in the middle of the town, from what I had gathered.

Sounds more like him just being a dumb kid than anything else. The impact of something like that happening to you, it makes sense why he wasn’t in the right headspace for a combine or pro day.

Names that interest me for the balance of the draft:

Torrence.  Great OG prospect, great value, might offer something at RT down the road.  Long gone by 62.

Kelee Ringo.  Just go full UGA.  Top recruit, didn't totally put it together in college, but huge talent and plus athlete.  Interesting in any CB to safety discussion too.  It would be comical to draft another talented UGA defender.  Probably gone by 62.

Freeland/Bergeron.  These are really my favorite round 2 targets for the Eagles.  Big, raw talents for Stoutland.  Probably can get one at 62.

Achane.  Probably the fastest player in the draft.  This is our poor man's Gibbs.  Adds juice to the screen and return game.

Spears.  Another elusive back that won't cost us anything near the overpays for Bijan or Gibbs.

Zach Kuntz.  A 6'8" 255lb TE that runs a 4.55, jumps 40", runs 6.86 three-cone...consider the tires kicked.  Not many DB's are going to be able to climb the ladder with him.  If nothing else, it'll make for a great snapshot on the sidelines when he stands between Lane and Fletcher.

It does.  But being a dumb kid in certain circumstances can result in people dying.  At some point, dumb kids need to grow up and stop being dumb kids.  Hopefully this was his wake up call and he never participates in anything so dumb again.

Eagles are in nickel a good portion of the time, though.  Maddox gets more than 75% of the snaps when he's healthy.

The Lions are everyone’s dark horse in the NFC. They’re still going to suck. A RB and LB in round 1? It’s not 1990

It's fair to ask tough questions. But if I'm a public figure caught up in anything potentially criminal, I'm not saying sheet about sheet.  I was actually thinking last night about how I'd answer questions on that issue. And the best you could do is like "Yeah it was a terrible situation."  and other vagueness. Anything that hints at "I'm sorry about ABC"  or "I regret XZY" is gonna end up in a file somewhere, used against you in civil court or potentially criminal.

As the 9th pick in the draft, anyone that thinks Carter isn’t a target for litigation in a wrongful death action is naive. No offense, @NCiggles, but you and I both know some attorney is already targeting Carter for a settlement.

They'll pay for it long term, but they'll get a lot of juice out of both of their draft picks as rookies.  It'll look good, someone will say they were right all along 8 games into the season, and then 5 years from now they'll have nothing to show for those picks.

Manifesting DJ Turner available at 62.

they dont need a slot. They have St. Brown. They needed a big outside WR like Johnston. They are dumb.
