Don't like it either.  I understand the sentimentality of no one wearing number x again for a franchise.

I think a better tribute is that the best DL on the team wears #92.  Best DB #20.  Use the number as a badge of honor.

I blame Norman Braman more than I do Reggie White but retiring the number of the first player to ever leave a team in FA is kind of a slap in the face.  Eagles records aside, Reggie White leaving was the beginning of the great exodus of so many great Buddy Ryan players.  No doubt, Reggie belongs in the Eagles HOF, but to retire the number of a guy who left for the highest bidder is just silly.

92 would be the first number I put back in circulation.

We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

Yup, that's what I've been saying for a long time.  The Cowboys do this with 88.  CeeDee Lamb originally wanted to be #10 but Jerry Jones insisted he wear #88 to continue the Cowboys WR tradition.

Yup. The Cowboys also find a player on their team that never ever ever STFU... constantly babbling... and give that player #9.

No.

Exactly. Why I wouldn't be surprised if any of the "Core Four" are retired or not given out.

Packers fans consider him a Packer, and think I'm crazy when I say we think he is an Eagle. So, no argument there, even though you could argue that he is the best player to ever wear the uniform.

I have been laughed at numerous times over the past few months for seeing that potential in Christian Elliss.  I realized then, and realize now that Elliss being the answer at LB#2 … and not just an answer, but a good answer … is a long shot given his UDFA status and University of Idaho competition level, but I’m interested to see how it plays out.

Nick Morrow wore 53 with the Bears.  My guess is whoever made that graphic just assumed he would wear it here not even knowing who Christian Ellis is.

Proof no one knows what the hell they’re doing

It's proof that so much of success in the NFL is predicated on where you go.  Jackson would have been bounced out of Cleveland and the Jets a long time ago, just as Mayfield and Darnold were.

Josh Rosen was a pure bust no matter where he ended up.

Some potential trade downs from 66 just to give people an idea of what they could get to move down based on the value chart:

66 = 260 points

Raiders - 70 / 144 = 274 points

Saints - 71 / 146 = 267 points

Browns - 74 / 126 = 266 points

Falcons - 75 / 113 = 283 points

Patriots - 76 / 117 = 270 points

Packers - 78 / 116 = 262 points

None of these excite me, although I would probably do the last three. Getting a pick like 144 or 146 does nothing for me, even 126 is just meh. They might have to trade down from 62 if they want to get something of decent value considering that pick is worth an additional 24 points than 66.

To put those picks into context here is my wish list for 62 and 66 with ESPN’s ranking number next to each

Joe Tippmann - 42

o’Cyrus Torrance - 44

Julius Brents - 46

Cody Mauch - 55

DJ Turner - 57

Tucker Kraft - 61

Drew Sanders - 70

Kendre Miller - 73

Then if Howie can swing a trade for a 4th round pick using his 2024 pick stash and/or Barnett and/or Watkins

Blake Freeland - 93

Tyjae Spears - 104

Zach Kuntz - 138

Dorian Thompson-Robinson - 143

And with the two 7th round picks target

Eli Ricks - 193

Andre Carter - 206

Andre Iosivas - 216

Andrew Vorhees - 229

Jake Witt - 240

Finally, as UDFAs sign

Derius Davis - 268

Noah Daniels - 346

Bryce Baringer - 285

Adam Korsak - 292

What I always find interesting is that 25 hasn't been handed out since Shady retired, however 36 gets tossed around like it was never worn.  OK, I get it, he's the Eagles all-time leading rusher at 6,792 yards and 2,282 receiving yards.  He also finished his career with 54 total TD's.  44 rushing and 10 through the air.

Brian Westbrook finished his career with the Eagles with 5,995 rushing yards and 3,790 receiving yards.  He also finished with 985 return yards and a total of 68 TDs, 3rd all-time with the Eagles.

LeSean McCoy- 9,074 total yards and 54 total TDs.  Number not worn since he was traded away.

Brian Westbrook- 10,770 yards with 68 total TDs.  Tay Gowan, Rudy Ford, Jay Ajayi, Dwayne Gratz, JaCorey Shepherd, Deiondre' Hall all have worn 36 since he left.

I'm not saying they should retire 36, they shouldn't, but how can they justify not handing out 25 but giving 36 to the ultimate list of bums outside of Ajayi?

That would be like Phillies fans arguing that Pete Rose was more of a Phillie than a Red.

@Iggles_Phan  I agree with your stance on retired numbers almost word for word. (including Kelce pushing into that range)

If they win the SB this year and its 3 SBs and 2 wins for a bunch of these guys then we might revisit Lane, Cox, and Graham.

SOLD!!

It'll be interesting to see what the FO do tonight,  The lack of mid round picks is glaring and I can't see them wanting to sit idly by for 3 or 4 hours tomorrow.  What will give?

As for retired jersey numbers, I've always thought you should be able to retire for a number of years (5 or 10), but after that, it expires and goes into the pool.  The NFL should allocate numbers that aren't used by teams to players, by default, to remove the nonsense of players sharing numbers at TC coz reasons.

Yup. And there was no hesitancy whatsoever in handing out 17, 31, and 66 when Carmichael, Montgomery, and Bergey retired.

Great points. I would be bitter if they retired Shady's number before Westy. I'd be even more pissed that they retired 25 for Shady and not Tommy McDonald.

I don't think there is a right answer in any of this. Time for the "Ring of Honor."

Retire all numbers and have them wear symbols instead

Reggie was a 68 sack in 92 game guy in GB. He won a SB and went to another because they were an incredibly loaded team.

Yes, he ended that SB win by annihilating the Patriots O-line after the Howard punt return. He could have been MVP of that game.

In Philly Reggie was probably the best defensive player in NFL history with 124 sacks in 121 games. LT had 98.5 sacks during that same period.

The 1991 Eagles were the best statistical defense in recorded history  (per Football Outsiders, goes back to 1981 maybe?)

Reggie was an Eagle who chased a ring in Green Bay.

Packers fans think football was invented in Green Bay.  That's a foolish take by them.  He was great there, but he was transformative here.  21 sacks in 12 games.  That's an insane pace, before that season and after that season 18 sacks in 16.

White was clearly the best DE they ever had... but he wasn't a Packer.

I think Reggie chased the money...or what God told him to do.
