We took out more trash this weekend. Publicly harassing VA (who saved the EMB and is trying to focus on the technology, marketing & ad revenue) will not be tolerated. Taking a fun football me

For the balance of the draft:

There aren't going to be any CB's that project as much at this point.  Ditto WR.  I don't think any 6th round off-ball LBs will get you much that some priority udfa's won't get you later.  Any "balanced" RB's that are the typical 5'10-11" 200lb range are going to be very bland.  The veteran scrap heap is better for that.

What does interest me:

Blake Freeland is the ultimate OT ball of clay.  If we draft him, I'll assume the best.  If we don't draft him, I'll assume it wasn't going to work for Stoutland.  But that would be an "exciting" pick at this point.

Kuntz is a fun project at TE with his sheer length and absurd above-the-rim ability.  He may have a ton to work on, but he creates a mathematical inequality on a jump ball against a DB.

There are some specialist RB's on the board who could be fun.  Late in the draft, you can probably find a rotational RB who is exceptional in one area but is deficient in others.  And this could improve our terrible return game.

Go after the margins. Punter, return specialists and linebackers.

The 2 positions in which we are thinnest are WR and CB.

I want to see us to continue to take shots at those positions. Hopefully they won't start, but we need bodies there.

The Sydney Brown rankings are all over the place. Jeremiah had him pretty high. Brugler had him much lower. Zierlein had him rated behind several prospects and called him "stiff hips" who's a backup.

Bo Wulf noted safety seems a position the NFL tends to have trouble getting right, so we'll see who's right in the end. Still think they could add a free agent for depth so Brown doesn't have to compete for a starting spot as a rookie.

How defenses use the Ss varies a bunch.  Given the Edmunds and Evans signings and talk of Blakenship as a starter from Howie plus the retention of McDonald, I expect the Eagles want to continue to play their Ss with a concentration on downhill and angle skills. (Basically high keeping the play in front of them with the ability to react quickly including dropping into the box).  Fluid hips aren’t near as important at the S position as outside corner.  Quickness and burst are.  More nickel skills the OCB.  Brown has that.  Now he played with some awful good corners so I think he will be just fine with the Eagles corners.

I don't think any of those players have any draft value, JMO.  They may get claimed off waivers or signed on a roster, but I don't think anyone is trading for them.

With Watkins (and this has been a relentless debate)...I'm of the belief that we have no viable WR #3 and no WR that is dangerous on a go-route...unless Watkins settles down and can be that guy.  So unless we want to revert back to that 12 personnel disaster, I think we need Watkins more than any potential trade partner would.

But for the Tuipolotu, Wallace, and McPhearson's of the world...once you have been in the league 2+ years and have shown nothing, I think the rate of depreciation on a mid round pick basically goes down to zero draft value.  At most, they could potentially be traded for other former mid round picks at different positions that have also done nothing and are about to get cut by their respective teams.

Despite the fascinating edge situation on this team, Graham and Sweat (and Barnett) are the only edge guys with meaningful experience of actually putting a hand in the dirt.  So despite the frustration and the bloated contract, I think there may be a depth role for Barnett on this team.

Yeah Barnett does seem to be a solid depth piece. Most are down on him, with reason, but I doubt he has that much value so no reason to lessen the depth. I thought Isiah McGuire could be a nice pick, he's still available. More of a complete base DE.

Weight/height.

I was wondering with both Hyatt and Tillman sitting there if we'd grab one. Certainly wouldn't have been a bad thing.

I'd be happy if we landed McBride and Damero Douglas

One more thing regarding team depth.  We constantly talk about how the cupboard is bare at DE, LB, CB, OL, S.  These middle rounds should be where the Eagles are filling out their roster but they either swing and miss far too much (Wallace, McPhearson, Taylor etc.) or they go round after round without a pick.  Over the last 5 years, they've only picked in every round twice.  I think having a pick in every round or at the very least, picking players with equal space between picks gives you a far better chance at adding higher value talent.  I think missing out on the mid-round players is why we see these holes in depth and why there are no up and coming young players (besides high investment players) on the roster.

2022- Dean was pick 83.  Kyron Johnson was pick 181 (which they traded 188 and 237 to move up to).  The Eagles went 98 picks without a player.

2019- JJAW was pick 57.  Shareef Miller was pick 138. Eagles went 81 picks between players.  They then picked Clayton Thorson at 167 and called it a day.  92 players drafted after him.  YUCK what a disgusting draft.

2018- Goedert was pick 49 followed by Maddox at 125.  Then Sweat was 130 and Pryor was 206.  Eagles twice sat while 76 players were picked.  2018 was a very, very good draft though.

I think it would be a mistake to let 122 players, especially at positions of need (RB, TE2, CB, LB,DE), get picked before the Eagles next selection.

Correct! But it's also Robert Quinn's stat line.

He looks like a swing tackle to start, having played a number of OL positions. Very strong. Good anchor. Hand placement looks pretty good. Those short arms probably make him more suited to guard than tackle. Seems to be pretty quick but I haven't seen any examples of him pulling and blocking in space. Alabama runs a lot of zone but they don't ask their tackles to pull much. Stoutland worked the OL at the Senior Bowl so I'm sure he has a good read on Steen, much much better than I. I'm betting when Jurgens moves to C, he'll be the RG.

Exactly how I think they plan to use him. A better and healthier Driscoll.

Do we think he’s strictly a Reddick type guy or can he play some true LB-type snaps as well?

Nolan Smith has the intelligence and athletic ability to be a true OLB.

The question would be coverage.

As a run defender, I think he’d be a monster. That’s already probably the strongest part of his game even though he’s getting drafted because of his upside as a sack artist.

Personally I want to see the eagles at least try it. If we could get Reddick, Smith, Graham, Sweat, Carter and Cox all on the field during passing downs… well… good luck.

I’d say Milton over Cox this year but I get your point.

Sorry, every other NFL team sucks in the draft, the Eagles are the only ones making smart picks.

If you told me the Eagles walked away with Broderick Jones, Joey Porter Jr., Keeanu Benton and Darnell Washington I would have been estatic.

My best friend is a Stillers fan, and we’ve both been ecstatic the last two nights.

:nonono:. Can we get a back that can be used in short yardage, please?

All comes down to how much they like Sermon. They kept him all last year for a reason.

My RBs I’m targeting today…Evan Hull, DeWayne McBride, Deneric Prince.

Charleston but I’m now back in the Philly area in Horsham. We kept our place in Charleston and VRBO it and just use it in the summer.

The Eagles could lead the league in 3rd/4th and short conversion and people want still say they need a big back if no one on the team looked like a big back

Jalen Hurts should not be the team's answer to 3rd/4th and short being used as a battering ram.  Sorry.  Eventually, that well will cost them.

Stature wise, he’s a lot like Seumalo (what he weighs now not coming out of college) and similar short shuttle and strength. Huge hands.  I wonder if he is as savvy as Seumalo.

That remains to be seen.  Sure looks like they kept him around because they just didn't need to let him go.  There were no signs that he was in their plans, and there's really no reason to believe anything has changed with that.

They might like Brooks as well

He was announced as an OG last night.  As far as I know, that's a decision by the team when making the announcement.  Seems they do indeed plan to have him play OG.

Lots of teams having nice drafts so far , a product of how close the talent level is

In the past, the Eagles have had luck with 235 lb LBs with great bend becoming great DEs.  Seriously, doubt his frame could hold more than 250.  (10 pounds of muscle). Sure seems like an edge more than a traditional DE.

I think they are still high on Jobe and wanted to test out Greedy Williams. In the end there is always next years draft which we have more capital.

McPhearson has looked good when he has been in the lineup.  Jobe, not so much but he was a green rookie.

I get that the board fell a certain way, but I'm still surprised we didn't spend a top 100 pick on a CB. No long-term solution at that position and no good depth if either CB gets hurt.

Our depth at CB is largely unknown.  Neither Slay nor Bradberry missed any time due to injury. That gave Jobe and McPhearson no real opportunity to show us if they are any good.  Foot all we know they may be better than we suspect they are.

In Charleston now for a wedding, actually in Mount Pleasant.....so...Foley Beach or Isle Palms Beach for a day trip?  And what are best places for dinner?

Is Brett Toth still on the roster?  He has a team bio page but isn't listed on their roster page.

I believe so as there was an announcement that he was signed 3/14 but never showed up on the roster or in the transactions on either PE.com or NFL.com.
