OK, I’ve shared my thoughts numerous times on why I don’t want Jalen Carter.  Can any of you who say if he’s there at 10 they need to run to the podium tell me why?  Why is he a must have player if he’s there?

Well .... he picked up a QB with one arm ... after the play was over ....

I've watched his film and see nothing else noteworthy of being a dominant prospect.  I suspect quite a few people simply parrot what they keep hearing; that he's some great DL prospect.  I don't see it at all from him.

For me, I picture the top 10 of the draft going this way, presently:

1.  CAR -- CJ Stroud QB

2.  HOU -- Bryce Young QB

3.  ARI -- Will Anderson EDGE

4.  IND -- Will Levis QB

5.  SEA -- Tyree Wilson EDGE

6.  DET -- Jalen Carter DT

7.  LVR -- Peter Skoronski OT

8.  ATL -- Bijan Robinson RB

9.  CHI -- Myles Murphy EDGE

That will leave a few choices for the Eagles at #10.  I would be happy with Gonzalez or Witherspoon at CB, maybe Paris Johnson or Broderick Jones at OL (although #10 might be too high).  I don't really like Bryan Bresee, at all.

Failing any of those guys, the obvious choice would be Murphy or Wilson at EDGE if either is still on the board.

@TorontoEagle is this what you meant by your Tommy comment the other day.  I’m still in the dark regarding what you meant.

I just thought of it yesterday, but I gotta say, Im loving the idea of adding Gesicki to this offense. He is perfect for Hurts. Sometimes Hurts threw dimes on deep balls. But many times it was AJ Brown making a play through double coverage. Give Hurts another weapon who can bring those balls down. We can definitely use this.

Jordan Davis was highly unlikely to be an impact player in year 1, regardless of where he was picked.  Especially when 2 vets got signed while he was injured and took snaps away from him.

This year though. Fewer excuses and barriers to playing tome. He lost weight in the season and has the time in the off season to work on his technique.

I don’t get how people do not understand that Georgia does not ask their defensive line to rush the passer so he has extremely limited game reps doing that.

Travon Walker last year at Georgia had 6.5 sacks

Nolan Smith had 3 this year and Jalen Carter had 3.

Georgia as a team ranked 64th in college football in team sacks.

It would all depend on what Gesicki would cost.   According to a Dolphins article "in Spotrac the projected value of Gesicki’s contract would be somewhere near a four-year deal averaging $8.2 million per season.”  That is too high in my opinion.  4 years for $8 million total is more in our price range.

No that’s not what I meant. I can’t explain any further otherwise I’ll be banned from the boards

I was thinking last night. If he’s there at 30 that’s a hard player to pass up on.

What would Gesicki cost?

sportrac market value says 8.2M.

You know how Howie does it. He will make that about 4M in salary with bonuses spread over void years.

Gaskin, the perfect Boston Scott replacement

A lot. I love the idea of a stud TE2. Been harping on this for a while now. I’m not gonna sign a guy when they have limited funds and an absolutely stacked TE class.

I dont think this class has an athlete the size, and athleticism of already proven Gesicki. And according to sportrac, hes not going to cost a lot. They predict over 15M for Dalton Shultz, and 8M for Gesicki.

Isn't proven in pass catching but upside of Darnell Washington who can actually block and runs a 4.64 at 6'7" 260lb

Gesicki might be worse than Ertz at blocking.

Yeah....

depends if they want TE#2 to be a cabable blocker.

Athletically, Gesicki is a full 10th of a second faster than Washington.

There was a big 6'7'' TE who could move last year too. I think it might have been a Virginia guy? Didnt do much.

Maybe they develop. Gesecki is already ready to contribute.

Im just thinking, you cant get a WR for 8M that is as productive as Gesecki and offers the same size and downfield playmaking ability for Hurts.

Chark is coming off a bad season. Probably still cost a bunch.. Lazzard is ok... probably still more than 8M. Hollins coming off of just 1 good season...

TE2 can potentially use an upgrade anyway...

He's such a drama queen

yeah. we dont know how much they are going to look for that or if they would just like another passing game weapon. They can keep Stoll at TE3 when they need a blocker in.

Anyone can improve with Stoutland coaching them too. Gesicki will have that going for him.

They signed the two vets because he was injured AND because he wasn't playing that well before the injury.

The point being, a player drafted as highly as he was needs to become an impact player at some point.  Year 1, he was not.  We'll see how he does in Year 2.  But that's why he can only get an "I".  He didn't play a lot of snaps early in the year, even when he was healthy.  So, he has a long way to go to living up to his draft position.  PFF's grade is meaningless.  But, you are correct, his excuses will dry up quickly this season.  Time for him to play like the monster he was supposed to be.  He doesn't have to make a ton of plays himself and be all over the stat sheet, but his impact on the field should be a measurable one as his presence opens up options for other players to make more plays. Vince Wilfork was never a guy that made a big impact on the box score with his accumulated stats, but his presence paved the way for others.  And if Davis doesn't approach Wilfork-like impact, he will be a disappointment.

Why? You have this weird idea that you should have 4-5 ex-QB's playing positions on the roster for what...trick plays? Other than Taysom Hill, no teams use this philosophy. You write these novels just regurgitating the same thing over and over...

Draft for traits not stats

and scarcity/value of interior disruptors

That’s what i think too.

In fairness rodgers might be so high he thinks his phone ringing is actually a portal to another dimension that he doesn’t want to enter.

That is simply taking on a balloon mortgage just prior to the 2008 bursting of the Housing Bubble.  I sincerely hope the NFL passes a rule making contracts with void years illegal under the Cap.

I don't get this love for Dell, he's the same size as Covey and ever so slightly faster. Don't think he will be able to take many hits going across the middle.

As the resident UH fan (let me down against Memphis last night), I don’t get the Dell love either. So so hands and really not that fast. Quick but so damn light.  Not. An improvement over Covey. Not really a slot for UH.  Rather retain Quez.
