The Eagles have been bad with Lane out. I think that drives a high pick this year

If I were forced to pick at #1 as CAR is now, Stroud would definitely be my choice.  I’m not sure at all he’s a franchise QB (I’d even wager against it), but there’s no way in hell I would draft a 5’10, 204 lb (bulked up from 195) QB like Young and stake my livelihood on him developing.  The other QBs are quite a bit behind the top two IMO.

So much depends on the environment a prospect is drafted into.  I do think Frank Reich will build a good team in CAR if he is given time.  He brings along Jim Caldwell and Josh McCown to help, and Andy Dalton can play until the #1 pick forces him to the bench.

I’m very curious to see where Hendon Hooker goes because I think he has a shot to have the best career of any QB in this class.

The whole being an Ohio St QB is real.  At least until someone can come into the NFL from there and actually be good.

DP brought up good points about how Ohio St always has the best WRs in the country and how guys are always open.

Maybe Stroud will finally break that mystic about Buckeye QBs but I'd go a different direction and let Dalton and Corral play.  There should be better QBs in 2024.  At least Caleb Williams will be in play.  But they already moved up so they must have their eye on someone.

Maybe I haven't gotten the best read from scouts and draftniks, but while many think this is a deep OT class, I haven't heard anyone consider any of the top OT's "can't miss" OTs. Skoronski has been considered the best by most, and I haven't heard anyone declare him a surefire franchise LT. In fact, the opposite. Some see him better at guard, some at RT. If that's the best OT in your class, while it may be deep, not sure any of these OTs are can't miss at 10.

If there was a Tunsil in this draft, I think the Eagles would pounce. But I'm not sure OT will be the best player on their board. Especially with Stout who is known to develop guys.

If Stout really vouches for a guy at 10 and sells them this guy is the next lockdown cornerstone tackle, I think they'll be strongly in play. If not, I think CB will be ahead of OT in that spot. This is a really good CB class.

So essentially a 4-4-3. I don't think that would work in the NFL and we currently don't have a S who can play CF and cover both sides of the field.

My amateur opinion is Skoronski is best at G. He would give you immediate help there and could back up Lane but I don't know if you spend pick 10 on a RG.  Paris Johnson is a OT and could be your future RT. He's played RG as well so he's more possible imo and in fact he has had a visit to the Linc.  Don't rule him out

Well that's the thing. If they view Paris Johnson as a guy who can be a 10 year top of the line OT, I think they'll consider it. If they don't project him that as an OT, I don't think they'll take a guy at 10 just because he's versatile and can play OG. I think then they'd just take an interior OL later in the draft at some point and figure out Lane's successor down the road.

I read that but the evidence to date is that they are in fact devaluing the safety position. We'll see if that changes

IMO, the arrival of that unicorn made Peters expendable more than it did take Dillard's job.  If Dillard was worth a 1st round pick, he should have been able to fill in anywhere else across the OL.

That is a different issue, that doesn’t track to your original point. That would make the Plan B a bit less painful, but it wouldn’t change the fact that a First Round pick isn’t starting.  We always knew we had a unicorn at RT, but getting a second unicorn at the other OT was unexpected.

To me Paris feels like he's better value at 10 than say Van Ness or Murphy but this my internet scouting talking of course. Witherspoon seems worthy-ish but he doesn't really seem like he compares to Surtain who went at 9.  Most likely to me seems like a trade down and then a DL

Based on tonight's discussion:

Trade down a few times in the 1st.

Maybe go 1A: Brian Branch and 1B: Kancey or Adebeware

Jack Campbell RD2

Bolsters S, LB, DT

I think he's better value than Van Ness and Murphy probably. Better than the CBs? I'm not sure. I think Witherspoon could be really good, but he doesn't have an athletic freak profile. I think ideally Howie hopes Carter, Wilson are there or for some insane reason Will Anderson slips to like 6 or 7 and I think Howie would jump up using 2024 picks.

I've said this more than once in the past and I think it bares saying here again.

In 2017 when they won the eagles had the most money in the league allocated to safety position and the least amount of money allocated to corner since then for whatever reason they have moved away from that and now have a large amount allocated to corner and not much towards safety

Maybe with the arrival of Desai they move towards valuing safety more or maybe the analytics after 2017 changed and they continue to de value safety which according to the way Desai runs his D would be a mistake.

I'm not in love with the top-15 tackle guys. Skoronski is not a Stoutland guy at all; where's that physical trump card that all the other big time Eagles OL have? Johnson has great length, but seems like Andrew Thomas to me (which is above average sure but he's always gonna have matchups where he struggles mightily).

I think the highest caliber prospects who have a chance of being there at 10 are Jalen Carter (major issues, obviously) and maaaaaayyybe Christian Gonzalez (doubt he'll be there). But the best value I'm seeing right now is a small trade back if maybe a team falls in love with Skoronski. I'd be looking for Nolan Smith or Broderick Jones, who at least has impressive developmental traits, in that case.

If Anthony Richardson or Will Levis is still there at 10, there’s a decent chance a Tampa or a Baltimore will drop a 2024 1st rounder to move up and snag them. That’s the dream scenario; keep this multi 1st rounder train rolling

Wilson seems like a guy they'd love but not sure they'll trade up

Way too far back in the first to make that move, unless it’s multiple firsts and more. Even then I wouldn’t feel good about it.

I know he's undersized, but if I was a betting man, I'd bet Kancey has a high probability of being drafted here.

Howie gets Aaron Donald 2.0

Pairs him next to the behemoth that is Jordan Davis.

Aaron Donald is a once in a lifetime DT, I'd be careful hoping any DT, Kancey or otherwise is the next Aaron Donald.

If teams trade up and the 1st 4 picks are QBs, I wonder if Seattle would trade down to us now that the pick would maybe be less valuable with all 4 gone.

Maybe send #10, #30, 2024 3rd for #5, #52 and take Anderson.

You are right. Donald is an anomaly. A better comparison would be Ed Oliver plus.

I'd draft that at 30.

Lane isn’t a unicorn. He was drafted 4th overall and certainly has had an excellent career. It’s what you expect to get out of a 4th overall tackle.

Mailata is a unicorn because there’s nobody else with his story. From never playing the game at all, to being taken in the draft and coached up from scratch into a stud, it’s unheard of.

Looking at the free agent market at WR and its pretty disgusting. Pretty much a bunch of old guys who used to be good. Landry, Hilton, Crowder, etc. Hardman is interesting but is pretty much just Quez.
