Caplan doesn't think Howie takes a CB at 10 regardless of who is there. That would be pretty sad if the case. It's the strength of the draft and there is very good top end talent that will be there at ten too.

Not sure I get your point.  It would be sad if we don't take one at 10 because it's the strength of the draft.  Wouldn't that mean we could get a very good CB later in the draft?

You can't just focus on how he played on the field which was pretty good in and of itself. You have to take into account the story as well. This was a guy who completely turned his career and life around and went from a thug and a villain to a rehabilitated man and leader. He became a true role model for young black men on and off the field which was incredible considering where he was before his second chance.

Exactly how I feel and why he's my favorite Eagles QB and one of my favorite Eagles of all time.  Yea, he was frustrating to watch boy he was exciting as hell and made you sit on the edge of your seat every game.

Vick very easily could have come here, had an ego and just thought, hey I'm back in the NFL and coasted along with a backup QB's paycheck.  Instead, he came in owned up to his mistakes, faced all of the media, all of the scrutiny and built himself back in to the most exciting player in the NFL.  His first year here he was 20 lbs overweight and you could tell how much it effected his play and his stamina.

I'm a dog lover and what Vick did was inexcusable.  It was a demon from his past that unfortunately never went away until it was too late.  It was a part of his culture growing up and Vick either lacked the guidance or ignored it as he became an NFL superstar.  I can't speak for him but I can speak as to how I view the situation.  I hated what he did, but I was proud of what he made out of himself during his time in Philly.

It would be sad if they don't want a CB at ten even if he's the best player on the board and they pass on that for a reach at d-line or o-line.

If they thought it was a reach they’d probably trade down which seems like a likely scenario

Yeah youre drunk

I think they should pick at 10 and trade down from 30 — all depending how the board plays, of course.  In general, though, it’s very seldom the Eagles are in position to draft a top 10 talent, and I’m not buying that this draft is any weaker than the norm

Yep, much like @T-1000 said in his initial post, there are many other factors to consider when talking about Vick.  I loved the way he reinvented himself as a man when he was an Eagle.  When they signed him, it could have turned in to a side show and it didn't.  He could have collected a check, accepted a new role in the NFL and that was that.  He didn't.  He put in the work.  I just wish Vick had Andy Reid and the Eagles organization from the start.  I think the leadership within the Philadelphia Eagles would have been able to help steer Vick in the right direction and with AR, I think he could have become a more complete QB.

Not every player we love has to have a long lived legacy here.  I loved Ray Farmer.  He was the guy I loved going in to the 96 draft.  He destroyed guys at Duke and he's the one guy I wanted the Eagles to get.  Then he comes in and wore 55 and I was hooked.  He made some flash plays as a rookie but he played in the wrong era.  Just too small to be an NFL LB but too slow to stay at safety.  He's the perfect LB for today's NFL.  Same with Shawn Barber.  Another dynamic LB that wasn't here long but is still a favorite of mine.

Sorry, what I mean to say is that my favorite Eagles are Brian Dawkins, Reggie White, Brian Westbrook etc.

Very basic overview of each position in the draft.  TE, Edge, RB are the positions with great depth.

I was surprised I actually liked Kincaid a bit more than Michael Mayer.  Mayer looks the part of his nickname Baby Gronk, but he seems to go down on first contact a majority of the time.  Great hands, though.

Kincaid does a much better job of running through and bouncing off contact IMO.

The Gators TE Washington is a heck of a blocker but pretty raw in the passing game

Vick qas one of my favorites for sure.  He was magical that 2010 season.  If the NFL didn't unnecessarily move that Vikings game to Tuesday I think that could have been a Super Bowl year.  It changed everything, they blew a top 2 seed with that loss and Vick got banged up in the game which limited him for the playoffs.  No one in that postseason played the eventual Super Bowl Champion Packers closer than the Eagles did in the playoffs.

Doesn't matter, he's still a clown.

Totally depends what you want in a tight end this year.  I think it's why it's smarter to pick one earlier rather than later.  Mayer is the jack of all trades, traditional TE but a mauler on the line and a mismatch in the passing game.  He's going to be a stud.  Kincaid is Zach Ertz if he can stay healthy.

If you mean Washington as in Darnell Washington, from UGA, he's the athletic freak with LT size.

I really like Iowa's Sam LaPorta.  He reminds me of a Mark Bavaro type of player with his RAC.  Tucker Kraft did it all at SDSU and looks like a Goedert clone, not just because of where he went to school.

The list goes on and on.  There are so many good tight ends.

Hurts signing a ta friendly deal like Mahomes would be another contradiction of what his detractors have predicted.

I don't see that at all. I've never seen a minute of Kincaid playing football, so I can't speak to how he compares to Mayer as a prospect. But I've watched Mayer for three years and always thought he was the best of all the really good tight ends Notre Dame has had over the past couple of decades. They've been churning out good ones at an amazing rate, so that says a lot. And I certainly never thought he went down easily after the catch.

Objectively, I’d like to come out this draft regardless of need with a CB, RB and TE due to relatively strength/depth of this class.

I agree. There are a lot of good players. Many have flaws but that doesn't mean they're not good. Torrence, for example, is a future pro bowler assuming he gets good coaching and he may not get picked on Day One. He reminds me a lot of Andrew Thomas of the Giants, who was a first-round pick but wasn't a top-level OT until his third season. The game has changed a great deal in the past few years and many teams and "experts" are a little behind the curve. A year ago we heard over and over that Hurts' style of QB was unsustainable. The Eagles offense was a "college offense" and the league would catch up to it quickly. Neither proved true. College defenses have gone to a light box for years and only now do we see the pros gravitating to it. This despite the fact that the NFL is a passing league.

IMHO, this year there are probably a dozen CBs who will get drafted high and start Year One and some who may not start but are as good as any of them (e.g. if the Eagles draft, say, Witherspoon). Most years there are maybe a half dozen like that, often fewer. I've been critical of the OL prospects but I've softened my view. There are, in fact, quite a few good ones. And so on.

Any GM who says this is a weak draft has, IMHO, not done his homework. We amateurs have no real idea of what the draft holds after the first couple of rounds. The good GMs do. Howie talked about OL prospects and what an advantage he has in knowing that if he drafts a guy with toughness and talent, Stoutland can make him into a good player. There are a lot of guys like that.

Yeah sorry Im not excusing his behaviors due to "culture" or not dealing with his "demons" until it was too late.  He committed disgusting acts, knew they were wrong at the time, but it didnt matter because he was an evil person.   Ill never, ever put him anywhere near my top list of favorite anything.

The fact that he "rehabilitated" after getting caught and going to prison means nothing to me.  He lost a ish ton of money and had to walk a straight line to get his bag.

If he didnt get caught hed still be murdering dogs and running a dogfighting ring.

I’d prefer Witherspoon at 10 over Gonzalez but I would be happy with this draft.

No argument from me regarding his acts.  I'll never defend them and don't know how any human could do what he did.

However, sometimes getting caught is just what some people need to learn a lesson though?  You'd hope it doesn't get to that point but it does.  If you constantly speed and go many MPH over the speed limit but eventually get caught and lose your license, do you think you'd learn your lesson once you get it back or are you going to continue driving 100+ MPH?  You lost that privilege to drive and when you get it back, I'd assume you change who you are to maintain that privilege.

I like Witherspoon, but he's far from the prototype - it's weird to think I'd be anxious at 10 but all-in at say 19.

Heard a stat that Forbes had a missed tackle rate of 14 percent or more in every year of his career. He plays physical for his weight, so I’d be curious if it was a matter of whiffing or having his tackle attempts broken.
