Because it's Nike and it's 2023.  Even if the Eagles do a full uniform makeover to Kelly Green you better believe they are going to make an all black uniform with some cringe worthy name and story line behind it.  There was no reason to give the Jets a full black uniform when they got their new uniform set.  There was no reason to give the Lions an all silver uniform.  No reaon to do the Falcons the way they did with the radiant uniform.  Did you see what they did to Washington?  Never have they had black in their uniforms and they have a head to toe black uniform.

The Eagles will have a black uniform one way or the other and that sucks.

I know.  Let me live in denial that the new uniforms will be Kelly green, just as the old colors and we never see that horrid black again.

Jalen Ramsey is an incredible player. Top 3 at his position. We're just not in a position to trade a 1st for a player on a big contract.

We can trade picks for players, but it's either low picks for veterans at high-cost or high picks for productive players on rookie deals.

He was the top coverage backer in college 2022

With a Slay and Hargrave restructure the Wagles would actually have 50-55 Million in cap space after these options are exercised. We can bring back what defensive players we want and bring in some younger free agents.

Keep CJGJ

Dre’mont Jones over Hargrave IMO

Keep Bradberry or go with Jamel Dean

Keep Edwards

Hargrave is a FA which means his contract already expires.  What re-structure?

Hargrave is more productive than Cox, IMHO.  Better keep him than let him walk.

CJGJ is a must keep.  Bradberry wants big money, probably more than Howie is willing to give.

OK to keep Edwards and Epps.  Their contracts should be manageable.

Someone needs to tweet otc and spotrac and see what their response is. Don was usually pretty good at getting an answer from them

@downundermikegot responses from them too.

I meant to say Lane Johnson, not Hargrave.

Hargrave is more of an extension. We can sign him and push his void years out. That has to be done by today or the 23rd, there is some confusion on which day.

If Lane is retiring after next season, I'm not sure how much more they can funny money his contract.  It's been done enough now where sleeping dogs should be left to die and they accept their bad team cap decisions from 4/5 years ago.  You could with Slay, but not if you end up stuck with a declining player.

Vic Fangio is being paid 4.5 million a year to be the dolphins defensive coordinator. So I guess  it isn’t unheard of to pay an DC big money like that. I know Gannon got a five year contract from the Cardinals. I would not be surprised if Vic Fangio is making more money than Gannon. The Cardinals are still paying Kliff Kingsbury who signed an extension in the 2022 offseason. And when they fired wilks, they were still paying him while paying Kingsbury.

i dont know if he's going to fetch a 1st, he's coming from a struggling rams team, only 4 picks and 28 years old i think he could get maybe third or forth and you can fit his contract depending on if slay restructures his contract

I tend to think if the Eagles were in love with prospects of Dennard Wilson as DC they wouldn't have tried to retain Gannon like that

Just browsing OTC this morning again.  Lane Johnson and Darius Slay restructures could free up $23 million but I'm hestitant to do either of those.  Slay's play rapidly declined and I don't want to be tied up with him any longer than they already are.  Lane has said he only wants to play until 2024 I believe, but who knows if he sticks to that.

A safe player to restructure could be Jake Elliott.  As a kicker, you'd hope he lasts well in to his 30s so he's going to be here for a while.  $2.3 million could be saved with a restructure.

2023 28 $3,995,000 $1,629,000 $200,000 $50,000   $0   $5,874,000 2.5%
$0
$2,373,750
2024 29 $3,450,000 $1,629,000 $200,000 $50,000   $0   $5,329,000 2.1%
$0
$1,716,667
2025 30 Void $855,000 Void Void   Void   $1,398,000 0.5%
$0
($585,000)
2026 31 Void $543,000 Void Void   Void   $0 0.0%
$0
$0

I could be wrong but it also looks like if they cut Quez as a post June 1, they would save $2.7 million.

2022 24 $895,000 $42,415   $937,415 0.4%
2023 25 $2,743,000 $42,415   $2,785,415 1.2%
$42,415
$2,743,000

If I'm looking at those scenarios the right way, easy way to free up $5 million for 2023.  Cap guys, am i reading those things the right way?

You can restructure by spreading money already committed out over a few more years.  That doesn't add commitment.  Of course you can do it the other way and add real years too

Right, I don't want to add any more void years and dead money to Slay's contract.  I'd rather trade him if there is any way to not get murdered with cap hits.

I'm sure the rams would.  You're living in the past. He's not that guy anymore.

Under discussed need is backup QB. This year changed the expectations going forward, and if the Eagles wasn’t to be a true contender for the Super Bowl every year, a draft pick or Book isn’t good enough. I’d be interested in Taylor Heinicke  but Spotrac thinks his market value is $20M per year which is insane. Baker Mayfield around $6M isn’t inspiring, but might be a combo of ok/cheap enough.

I have nothing to add other than his wiki page was showing Minshew as still a member of the Eagles.  That has since been corrected.  Now how do we convince Washington to sign him?

I like to think of multi-year contracts (before hindsight takes over) in 2 main categories.

There are contracts where you just know players will be overpaid by the tail end.  They will experience decline by the end of the contract and the overpaid late years are their reward.  Then there are contracts for younger players where you hope they will become a progressively better bargain by the tail end, as the market continues to reset and inflate itself.

Hargrave and Bradberry would both be the former.  Frankly, so would Miles Sanders.  CJGJ would be the later.  A Hurts extension would be the later.

I don't think we are in a position right now where we should take on any of that former type of contract.

Not another run at Jacoby Brissett? How much is Minshew really going to command anyway - the potential starter narrative is over.

I'd go mid-late round rookie but that's now how the organization rolls.  I wouldn't be shocked if they bring in Baker and sports radio has a 2 month long meltdown

Minshew didn’t look great in spot duty. I’d bring him back if he’s cheap but it wouldn’t be very inspiring.

I'd only bring him back if it meant stuffing him in a cannon and shooting him straight into a brick wall.  For charity of course, I'm not a monster.

We aren't in cap trouble now, per se.

Unless we are opening up space to sign an unforeseen young player and long-term upgrade in FA, I'd rather not jump through restructuring hoops just to maintain all of our over 30 crowd of FAs.

What about guys like Tyler Huntley or Philip Walker?  Did Huntley earn a starting job somewhere after his "Pro Bowl" year?

I agree I wouldn't try to run anything back. Let all the old guys walk and rebuild D.  Your 2 best pass rushers are under contract and sign CJGJ.

I think Minshew is a lot better than he looked in relief this year.  He played some very good defenses and, at his back, had an Eagles team (and coaching staff) that just didn't give a crap in those games.

I never thought that Minshew as anything more than he is...a good backup.  But he IS a good backup, even if he didn't look like it in those games.  I wouldn't burn any meaningful resources trying to keep him around, but I would be happy with him as backup QB.

He's fine. He played badly against Saints and was decent against Cowboys. If Watkins fights for a ball it doesn't look quite so bad. That's what you get from a backup. I wouldn't be opposed to drafting a guy after rd 2 and try to cultivate a 4-year backup at a controlled cost

Good stuff man! Helter-Skelter and Resurrection are my top two, but it’s all good. Nice relaxing, chill vibe for a lot of them. I could easily listen to all of this at the beach.

I think there’s a Hip/Hop and Rap thread either in What’s Up or For Your Entertainment if you want to post it there also.

Holy crap, man — thank you! I wasn’t expecting anyone to listen. 😂

I appreciate you taking the time to listen and provide me with some feedback. It means a lot to me.

I think this is how Lowie has to walk in the room with Hurts and his agent...

"We think you are the next big thing in the NFL.  We think the world of you.  We'd want to pay you more than Elon Musk if we could, let alone Herbert/Burrow.  But we also know you want the same thing we do...to win championships.  The more we pay you, the harder that becomes.  So let's work together and figure this out."
