I will say this in relation to tariffs as another factor is container pricing.  We were payed as much as 22k to get a container from China to New York in spring of 2022.  That price dipped to 2.2k at one point in spring of 2023.  Now it's settled between 8-10k.  Less demand on foreign goods means they'll be dropping prices to fill the boat which would positve effect margin whether enough counter act the tariff is a big question.  I think the market would find an equilibrium (it always does).  I also think Trump, as he does, was talking out his ass.  My guess is more targeted tariffs to bring some things back stateside.  Or he can drop the income tax rate to 0.  That would be cool too.

Depends on what you mean by "winning.”

I don’t think it would decrease drug usage or drug overdoses. It would probably decrease gang violence, but increase the number of addicts which in turn would increase associated crime.

We can see this with the opiate epidemic. Pill farms were a "legal” way to obtain and use opiates, at least as far as the user was concerned, but it became an industrialized addict manufacturing system.

I think maybe we need to look at it with more granularity. All drugs aren’t equal and they don’t have equal externalities. Certainly marijuana isn’t a battle worth fighting. Opiates seem to be worth fighting because of how devastating they are.
