I think it was an offbeat homage to The Big Sleep and The Long Goodbye.

Loved it, "the Dude abides"

Are you referring to the movies or Chandler's books?

Marlowe has always been my favorite gumshoe and Chandler's prose is as good as it gets. If you're referring to the movies, The Big Sleep was a lot of fun but Bogey wasn't Marlowe. The film is basically a lot of innuendos between Bogey and Bacall. If you're referring to The Long Goodbye with Eliot Gould, that film was an utter abomination.

I think the film that best captures Marlowe is Farewell My Lovely with Robert Mitchum.

Speaking of Robert Mitchum, I really liked Heaven Knows Mr. Allison.

Double Indemnity has a bunch of Chandler's flavor, albeit, it is based on James M Cain's book.  And the movie blows the book away.  Billy Wilder co-wrote and directed, so not surprising.

NO ONE can touch Chandler, IMO.  Like not even close to close. There is a description of a desk and all the brass on it which is one of my favorites, but I don't know which book and have not found the quote.  But it went something like, "...there was a brass inkwell and brass pens on his desk, with a brass blotter and a brass lamp. All in all there was a lot of brass..."

I used to have this as my sig here on the EMB.

One of my least favorite of theirs actually.

Of the ones I've seen...

1. The Big Lebowski

2. No Country for Old Men

3. Fargo

4. The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

5. Burn After Reading

6. A Serious Man

7. True Grit

8. Miller's Crossing

9. Blood Simple

10. Raising Arizona

11. Hail, Caesar!

12. O Brother, Where Art Though?

13. The Tragedy od Macbeth (Just Joel and no Ethan involved.  Awful movie)

No Hudsucker Proxy or Barton Fink? Hail, Ceasar was nothing close to O Brother, Where Art Though?

Just watched this and don't understand why the Birds would do this.

I'm still of the opinion Nolan Smith plays too small to be a full time EDGE.  I really liked Drew Sanders from Arkansas, but he and Nolan Smith might be used the same way in the NFL -- part time coming off the edge and part time off the ball LB.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Smith; even the Turds put the stop to Parsons' talk that he was going to be a full time EDGE.  He now says he'll be "way more versatile" in 2023.

Wasn't a fan of either of the musical movies.  Not my taste.

Still need to se Hudsucker Proxy and Barton Fink.

Because they currently need him in that role more so than a pass rusher.

Barton Fink was very overrated. Weird movie. Decent, I guess.

Going to the day game tomorrow. Wanted to go tonight cause i haven’t seen Suarez in person pitch and I’ve wanted to. I’m thrilled they won 2 to at least get the split. That’s the best they’ve done since 2016

I saw you on TV.

No idea what you look like but with the amount of people actually at the game, you were on TV.

He is the guy in the backward red Phils cap, clinging to his fourth $17 beer and a one run lead.

I thought this was a possibility and it was going to be one of my predictions for the season, Smith plays off the ball linebacker at least 25% of the time. Dude has elite potential off the ball as well as a rusher. Why not get the most of out him? Desai needs to utilize all of his skills, not just rush him off the edge 100% of the time. It's not like we have pro-bowlers littered at LB either...

No Country and Fargo are my favorites. Lebowski and others are great also.

Fargo has so many hilarious moments, many subtle.

For example later in the movie when Buscemi goes back to the cabin with the money and he goes up to the Russian. He calls him a mute and then in the next line says to him "I've been listening to your bull crap all week."

And everything Marge and Jerry Lundegaard says in their over the top accents is funny.

Buscemi's moments to me are the funniest though. Watching him lose his crap was gold.

I love No Country, Fargo, True Grit, Hudsucker Proxy (so underrated), Raising Arizona, Barton Fink. So many great movies.

But I have the unpopular opinion that The Big Lebowski is incredibly overrated. To me it has about 4 moments of comic genius spread out through a storyline and character arc I just don't care about. In fact, I find it kind of boring.

Phils Win?  Phils win!  The game and a series in AZ!

Phillies and eagles 3-0 in the last 3 games I’ve gone too.

It’s bad IMO.  Never got the appeal

I love The Big Lebowski.  That's a movie I could watch once a year and it'll never get old. Just some really well written and acted characters.

I have never seen Big Lebowski and have no desire to. Even when people talk about it, it’s barely quotes or something that actually happens in the movie, it’s just "man that movie rules”.

DeVonta & AJ no doubt for me. The only duo in the league to make you think about it is Hill and Waddle.

That movie gets quoted a lot.   In fact as an Eagles fan it's impossible to have not heard people referencing the movie with a quote from it.
