That had to be a cool visit. The bio about his war experiences was interesting.

It was pretty neat. I knew he flew on B-24's but I had no idea how extensive his service was. I'm fascinated by WW2 history and that entire era. I also didn't realize how many movies he was in. I'm not a big Hollywood fan but the golden age of movie making must have be cool to be a part of.  They have a lot of memorabilia and stuff. Worth the time to stop in if you're ever headed out that way. Put me on to some of his movies. Came home and watched Strategic Air Command. Should probably watch a few more of his movies.

Carbine Williams-super obscure but a great story.

I can do a pretty decent Jimmy Stewart (voice) impression, but it sometimes morphs into Cameron doing Sgt. Peterson from Ferris Bueller.  It's not my Sean Connery impression, which is pretty damn good and I can do it on command, but its decent.

For sure! You'd probably like the book then.

Another interesting book about WWII pilots on opposites sides is "A Higher Call" by Adam Makos.

Quote

December, 1943: A badly damaged American bomber struggles to fly over wartime Germany. At the controls is twenty-one-year-old Second Lieutenant Charlie Brown. Half his crew lay wounded or dead on this, their first mission. Suddenly, a Messerschmitt fighter pulls up on the bomber’s tail. The pilot is German ace Franz Stigler—and he can destroy the young American crew with the squeeze of a trigger...

What happened next would defy imagination and later be called "the most incredible encounter between enemies in World War II.”

The U.S. 8th Air Force would later classify what happened between them as "top secret.” It was an act that Franz could never mention for fear of facing a firing squad. It was the encounter that would haunt both Charlie and Franz for forty years until, as old men, they would search the world for each other, a last mission that could change their lives forever.

The amount of butt hurt people reacting to this, retweeting it and acting upset is shocking. I get that Wentz career didn't go as planned here but I don't understand the absolute and total hate for the man.  People go out of their way to talk down on him. I can think of plenty of former Philly athletes who are worthy of hating on and Wentz isn't anywhere near that list.  My feelings towards him are more of disappointment and what if.

Putting the animal stuff aside, Wentz alienated his teammates, was not happy winning the SB and demanded a trade. He vetoed a trade to Chicago would have given us higher draft picks than the Colts gave us too.

Why would fans want to support him?

Bears never even made an offer.  The best intel said they were never going to offer more than a 2nd and 3rd, but never made that offer.  IND was always going to be the best return.

We'll never know the full story. Clearly, there were some issues with Wentz, post injury. No one needs to support him, but he's downright hated on and lives rent free in so many peoples heads. Just go through the comments on any tweet a Philly beat brings up about him and it's just the most hateful stuff being said. I just don't get it.

I honestly only hate/dislike a few selective players when they’ve played here and left. Ben Simmons is probably the top one. Wentz is not one of them. I don’t love him or hate him. I understand that the eagles needed him in 2017 to win our only SB and even 2016 giving the franchise restored hope going forward from Kelly and Bradford era.

And I think a major misconception for a lot of Eagles fans is that Nick Foles part of the run was the only thing that mattered. Nick Foles was a major contributor why they won the Super Bowl, but he was not healthy at the start of the year. In the preseason, he had an elbow injury.  was a story that came out he almost had surgery on it and would’ve been done for the year. There’s a chance if foles had to play 16 games he doesn’t make it through. So I always tell people you needed both to win. You couldn’t have one part of the eagles story without the other. If Carson Wentz doesn’t play way he did for 13 games, the Eagles aren’t in that position. You needed both. Is why I don’t love or hate him. I do wish he handled it better and the eagles in general did a better job after the SB to 2020

i disliked the way it ended. However, I also didnt like how it ended with Doug. I thought people, media kicked him on the way out by leaking stories and airing out dirty laundry and media piling on him that was unnecessary. You can appreciate what got accomplished during that time and also acknowledge it was a messy end but was right time/decision that Doug and Carson went their separate ways for whatever their/whomevers reasons were.

The outrage!!! Oh wait ... Trent is a beloved former Eagle. NVM.

People pick and choose whatever they need to try to rationalize their irrational hate for certain people.

People that don't want to hunt, shouldn't hunt, but they shouldn't berate people that don't live behind a facade where somebody else kills, cleans, and butchers everything they eat that doesn't have cell walls.

So true especially with today's environment.  You could be looking for beaver and find a giant snake instead.

Be careful out there boys.

Rear Window, Winchester 73, It's a Wonderful Life, Vertigo, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Harvey, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, The Philadelphia Story, Destry Rides Again, Rope, Broken Arrow, Bell, Book, and Candle, Flight of the Phoenix (there are two versions of this), and Firecreek. He did lots more, especially westerns, but I like all of these.

I had never even watched It's a Wonderful Life the full way through until this year and I love Christmas movies.  Debate to be had whether it's a true Christmas movie but I did enjoy it, especially the message behind it.  Have a hard time picturing him in a Western with that voice but the list you have is similar to what I've heard from others.

Who do we love the most as our own?

That's sort of funny. I just checked and he did 21 westerns.

I will say that my favorites are the Hitchcock films - Rear Window, Vertigo, and The Man Who Knew Too Much. Che Sera, Sera.

I'm going to have to start watching more old movies.  I couldn't tell you how many Hitchcock movies I've actually watched.  I've seen parts of The Birds. Did he do Psycho? I really can't get in to anything new. How many different Spidermen are there now? Seems like today's movies are unnecessary remakes (they just re-did White Men Can't Jump, which is a classic IMO), superhero movies or terribly dark movies. There is no more comedy and everything else just seems to be CGI.

Not for nothin', but there are lots of reasons to hunt bear.  A lot of people who hunt them, eat them.  The black bears become a nuisance if their numbers aren't culled.

It’s the funniest thing to me to all these "outraged” people. It’s likely Wentz had all the licenses, permits etc to hunt and did it during a specific season. These are provided by Alaskan Wildlife Conservation. They literally want people to do this to help with conservation of wildlife.

Wentz has consistently demonstrated that he aims to weather all criticism rather than learn from it. It's why he looked like a scolded kid during the Super Bowl, why he said every week he had to improve but never did, why despite all the physical and mental gifts he STILL HAS he can't be anything other than a rollercoaster ride net average QB. And why, despite his professional reputation being the lowest it's ever been he's decided to associate himself with Jon Gruden and trophy hunting this off-season. He simply doesn't get it.

Hunters are generally far more concerned and far far more knowledgeable about what is required to truly conserve nature, than any of these "environmentally minded activists and virtue signalers."  There are bad eggs, obviously, but the vast majority do it the right way, following the rules and doing what is absolutely necessary to maintain appropriate populations to make life better for both the animals and the humans around them.

And a skilled hunter will provide a far more humane death than an animal would have if it died of starvation due to a lack of food resources, or if it invaded human areas in search of food, or if they were hit by cars, etc.

The bolded has nothing to do with anything football related.

What's wrong with trying to learn from Jon Gruden and trophy hunting? The first half of your post might be true but Gruden has proven to be great with QB's and what's wrong with a trophy hunting trip during the off season?

Because millions of people now associate Gruden with racism and trophy hunting with animal cruelty. Regardless of your or my opinion on either of those 2, Carson associating himself with them demonstrates a clear lack of professional judgment.

Millions of people can also be ignorant on a topic, leading to incorrect conclusions.
