That works for me... but what does it cost?

Better yet... just go get Ohtani.  He can fit the bill to give better depth on the pitching front AND fill in the outfield problem.   Two birds... one great big stone!

Lol,  NFL = Boot and Lev Bell = ant.

He did nothing for RBs. It got worse after his drama.

All he did was cost himself about 25 million dollars.  (missing year, worse contract, and he could pretend he was elite in that offense and his career cratered in NY)

His running style was standing still while O-lineman mauled people and then running in the hole they made. The Steelers lineman were underpaid.

Yup. All Bell proved to owners is you don't need the "best RB" in the NFL, just replace him with a 3rd round guy on his rookie contract and it's more than good enough.

Wouldn't he just be a 1/2 year rental? Is there any realistic chance the Phillies could retain him after the year?

RBs still get paid millions so there will always be people playing the position

Won’t somebody please think about the Fullbacks!!

Yup.   FBs went the way of the dodo years ago.  NFL will soon look like the Arena league... or flag football... and weirdly, the QB being the leading rusher becomes the norm, not the exception.

Babe Ruth = peak athletic body

Shoehei Ohtani = probably on steroids

While I love anything that gives the Cowboys some controversy, Martin is not underpaid by that much, perhaps a few million, but this tweet makes it sound like he's looking for a big bump in salary.  Right now, his annual cash is ~$13m.  If he were a UFA he'd probably be paid $20m or so AAV, but there's lots of very good guards in the $15-$16m range.

Ohtani says he wants to play for a winning team, and that's the Phils.  I haven't heard anything about a preference to be on the west coast, or anything like that.  He didn't want to talk to the Yankees, and I don't know what the story is there.  Based on things I've read, the Phils stand as good of a chance as any team to sign him.  Given his desire to win, I think the Phils probably stand a very good chance to sign him if they wanted him.

If the Phils want him long term, my bigger question would be how much further past the luxury tax will Middleton go?  Ohtani will probably get $500m+.  If you consider that you're signing both an ace pitcher and one of the best hitters in baseball, that's a bargain.  Still, that's a lot of money.  That might give the Phillies one of the top-2 payrolls in baseball (right behind LOLMets).

IMO the athletes should be paid based on a percentage of overall revenue generated.  In the NHL and NBA, players receive just over 50% of league revenue.  In the NFL it's just under 50%.

Demographically, more men watch sporting events than women -- I assume because more boys grow up playing sports than girls.  It's hard to be a hardcore fan of a sport you've never participated in.  As more women participate in competitive sports at higher levels, I assume more women will watch and consume sports.  Until that time, they will likely generate less revenue and get paid less than men.

Babe Ruth was actually in really good shape his first few years in the majors, but everyone pretty much remembers him as pictured.

Impossible to really compare these two.    Babe did it when the next closest guy wasn't even on the same stat page.

Here's their stats from age 23 - 28...  (which is all that Ohtani has to keep it a fair comparison).  Bolded things led the league.

But.. in today's game, I can't see any argument that doesn't put Ohtani at the very top of any list of players.  He's basically 2 elite players in 1.

This is correct.  The uniforms sure didn't help make him look good though.

When do you celebrate your guy's birthday? Around the pagan winter solstice holiday. When was he born? In the spring.

Sorry bud, I don't have time to debate so-called science with you, believer what you will

Sorry again, I'm a Feasts of the Lord (incorrectly called the Jewish Holidays) kinda guy.

Just so we are 100% clear.

Zack Martin was making 4x the average RB and his greed demands that he needs to make 6x the average RB only because 2 or 3 other greedy OGs are making that much.

This is of course, the owners fault. 🤡

Without a doubt, that's the worst uniform in football.

NFL Auction | STS - BUCCANEERS CAMERON BRATE GAME WORN BUCCANEERS JERSEY (NOVEMBER 12, 2017) SIZE 44

Is there a chance that Nike is run by lizard people who can't see color the way humans do?

it would explain why none of these uniforms are the right color or why they can't make certain colors.

Very nice.  This and the Browns are giving me hope Nike won't completely goof it for the Eagles.

The Vikings purple looks off, but Seattle looks dead on.
