I did a very quick search (so basically hardly a search), and didn't see anything in that regard. What did you read about that?

Someone posted about the July 1st deadline and it just seems plausible and becomes more so with each passing day.

There's Howie's OT depth move we all knew was coming. I figured Lewan possibly, but Kelly is ok as depth.

Howie is trollin. Thats Kelly green.

I wonder if signing Kelly is just a depth move or if Steen is the favorite at RG

No he's right, the total pot of prize money to be awarded for the 2018 men's world cup was ~$400M and for the 2019 women's world cup it was ~$40M. They just raised the total for this year's pot to well over $100M but originally it was to be around $60M.

Part of the issue that gets skewed domestically is the relative performance of the women's team compared to the performance of men's team. In almost all other countries, with the exception of maybe Japan and Sweden, the women's team fares comparably or slightly worse to their men's team. But here, we have become accustomed to seeing the women consistently dominate their peers at the international level while the men consistently flounder.

Which is probably why so many Americans follow the women's team closely and watch them play in the world cups and Olympics. So from our perspective, the numbers seem even worse as a result, but if you were in most of Europe or South America, you'd probably not think twice about it because the men's team is by far the main draw and the women's teams in the vast majority of those countries is an after thought.

A related issue is that men's soccer isn't really as big to the average sports fan in the US. I'd wager that a significant portion of US  soccer fans are people that immigrated here from nations that prize soccer and any 2nd and 3rd generation family members born here that they influenced (just like we would attempt to raise our kids as Eagles fans).

Our women's team has been much more successful than our men's team, no doubt. They have also been in the news a lot which helps get the sport and the team attention. I have no idea if the success and attention has been able to attract more fans (fans that actually spend money as opposed to casuals that just tune in every once in a while).

Despite the success our team has had, soccer is still more of a world sport and since the women don't play the men, they are in different leagues and the pay should reflect the revenue that the league brings in. How much the women make should have nothing to do with how much the men make and only with how much revenue their own league generates. If we are talking about two people doing the same job at the same level for the same duration for the same employer (one being a man and the other a woman), the pay should be equal. If it is not, that would clearly be unfair.

I think one less clear area is endorsements. I would imagine that female athletes probably don't get offered as much as men to sponsor products. Would it be because they are less influential? I really don't know.

Dennis Kelly is the right type of depth signing at this point in the off-season. I didn't feel great about OT3.

Howie makes a more notable move 4 months into free agency than the Sixers did in their first 3 weeks of free agency.

Right, because the 2023 world cup has yet to happen so the implication was for payouts made from FIFA for the previous world cup in 2019. He confirmed this in his follow up post. There's also a chart in the article I linked which shows the total pot amounts from all previous world cups compared to the projected amount for this year.

Morey wants us to be patient even though the last time we gave him that runway he made the wrong trade and brought Harden here instead of Haliburton, or any of the other deals that were offered by other teams, all of which would have been better than Harden.

Fans need to be REAL patient, because it looks like the plan is to have a reset year and clear cap room in summer 2024. So prepare for another early playoff exit. They aren't trying to win anything this year, that much is evident.

Lucky for him he moved to a city world renowned for its lack of crime.

Howie backdoored his way to a win in that Kelly-DGB trade by playing the long game.

I want a jersey now with Kelly's number but the nameplate will read  NOT DRISCOLL  :Eagle_smiley:

Of course it can be Kelly Green

Infantino also criticised broadcasters for what he deemed substandard offers to show Women's World Cup games in certain territories.

"FIFA is stepping up, but unfortunately this is not the case for everyone across the industry," Infantino said.

"Broadcasters and sponsors have to do more in this respect, for FIFA, for the confederations, for the member associations, for everyone. FIFA is receiving between 10 and 100 times inferior offers for the Women's World Cup than for the Men's World Cup.

"The news I have for those broadcasters or sponsors who don't want to offer similar amounts than for the Men's World Cup is simply that we're not going to sell women's football and a Women's World Cup at these prices."

The assumption is that if advertisers and broadcasters spend more money on the product that they will drum up more interest. I think the consumer wants to decide what to watch. I think it's up to the players to capture the attention of fans, not promoters. There's a soccer fan base out there that prefers the men's product overwhelmingly to the women's. The reason is because the level of the average player is much higher. It's similar to the Williams sisters playing the 203rd ranked man in tennis back to back and losing. There's nothing wrong with rooting for things to change, but until women overtake the men in level of competition, we shouldn't pretend like that level of competition is equal.

I wish our men's team had more success, if our best athletes played soccer we would be dominant and it wouldn't really be close

Maybe the RBs can play soccer instead now?

Kelly likely wouldn't have made the Eagles' roster that year.  Just is what it is.

Oh you mean the president of FIFA is trying to justify past decisions, pass the buck, and deflect any barbs aimed at the most corrupt sports organization in the world? This certainly changes everything.

As had been already pointed out to you, the awarded prize money for women was a tenth of that of the men's which was quite clearly out of line with the viewership numbers. The prize money this year will certainly be more in line with viewership (and likely by proxy, generated revenue). This wasn't just a small increase, it will be a massive bump in the awarded payouts. I'd bet the attention and awareness brought to the issue in recent years was a big factor in effecting that change. I highly doubt FIFA just did it on a lark for funsies.

I'm in Houston and the Texans radio guys are kinda butthurt about the Texans.

The Titans are the Oilers. Its the same franchise and the Oilers history is the Titans history. The Texans are a 2002-present franchise with no Oilers history.

Amy Adams Strunk is all about Love Ya Blue and all that history even though they are in Tennessee.

I'd expect the classic light blue unis.

Grew up an Oilers fan and have lots of friends that were Oilers fans and many that are now Texans fans.  Titans were never Luv Ya Blue. Bum never tried to kick in the door in Tennessee. Wonder if Amy has the placard.  Mine is in my attic.  History stays with the fans.  There’s no Dawg Pound in Baltimore.  Unitas never played in Indy or followed by folks there.  It is nonsense for the Titans to play in retro Oilers jerseys.  Thing is, I think most fans get that.   Unfortunately, of the traitor owners, only Modell really understood that.
