Dak Prescott: I won't have 10 interceptions this year. https://nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/dak-prescott-i-wont-throw-10-interceptions-this-year
  Dak probably won't have 10 interceptions this year. He'll probably have 20 ..... or 25 ..... or

That’s a lot of overstatement.  No one figured the 2016 team would be dismantled so fast or that the 2000-2012 group would never win a SB.

Things can fall apart quickly.  Mahomes said you need to win 3 to talk dynasty.  Let’s get 1 with this group.

The 2016 group wasn't close to as good as this group.

Glenn and Mike keep gnashing teeth about how only the 2018 Patriots and the 1971 Cowboys won a SB after losing it the year before. (2nd week in a row)

Who did those 1971 Cowboys beat?  What was the 1972 record of the team that lost the 1971 SB?

BTW. here are the last 5 SB losers

2017 Patriots - 2018 SB

2018 Rams - 2019 9-7

2019 49ers - 2020 6-10

2020 Chiefs - 2021 AFCCG

2021 Bengals - 2022 AFCCG

The trend has little to do with an individual team but even the trend is in the Eagles favor while people pretend its not.

The (undefeated) Dolphins won the Super Bowl in 1972 after losing the 1971 Super Bowl to the Cowboys.   But... here's the thing about going back these days versus years of yore... the salary cap and roster turnover is the issue.  It really isn't about being the Super Bowl loser... its more about being in the Super Bowl.  And the longer season, the shorter offseason and the toll on the body.  The Patriots are basically the outlier... the Chiefs are reaching close to that status... but what do they both have in common?  The QB.  That's still the answer to sustained success in the NFL.    Excellence from the QB position puts you in the best possible position, year in and year out to compete.  So, if you have sustained excellence from the QB position, you have more opportunities than teams where their QB catches lightning in a bottle.  This year, Hurts will get to prove if he can sustain his level of excellence, or not.  Jackson had an MVP season, and then the Ravens fell off quite a bit.  Newton has an MVP season, and then the Panthers fell off.  Because those QBs really struggled to keep building on what they did those seasons.  Can Hurts use 2022 as a building block and a stepping stone to even higher levels?  Or will the punishment he took last year start to wear him down?  Either way, I want to see far fewer designed QB runs this year.

A player I thought the Eagles would potentially trade for last year.  Don't need him at this point though.

TBI is a mother f'r...I'm seen pretty regularly at the TBI clinic down at Ft Carson.  I wish it on nobody.

Some fun matchups opening weekend.

Panthers/Falcons is interesting. Not the two best teams, but the NFC South is an up for grabs division and honestly anyone could win it.

Bengals/Browns is Burrow is healthy is interesting.

Niners/Steelers - will probably be the local 1pm game in the Philly area.

Jags/Colts - interesting divisional matchup

Dolphins/Chargers - probably my favorite of that Sunday

Cowboys/Giants

Jets/Bills

Jalen Carter:

Quote

If you spend any time talking to folks who have been around Carter, you start hearing about some impressive athletic feats, dating all the way back to his high school career.

Wood offered up one from this summer.

They were laser-timing 10-yard sprints because get-off is an important trait for pass-rushers in the NFL. According to Wood, Carter ran four consecutive 10-yard sprints all under 1.6 seconds, topping out at 1.569 seconds. That’s pretty incredible for a defensive lineman who is well over 300 pounds.

"He’s gifted, obviously,” Wood said. "But that was like, ‘holy cow!’”

To put those times into perspective, the fastest 10-yard split for a defensive tackle at the Combine this offseason was 1.64 seconds from Pittsburgh’s Calijah Kancey and the next closest was Clemson’s Bryan Bresee at 1.71 seconds. There were six receivers at this year’s Combine who ran a 1.57 or slower and none of them were anywhere near 300 pounds.

Cowboys (V-VI)  Phins (VI-VII) and Pats (LII-LIII) the only 3 to pull it off I think.

Good thing the last 5 years of SB losers have an 2 AFCCGs and a SB. Nothing is more relevant than the last 5 years (as limited as the relevance is for all of it)

The best one there is SF at Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh has an excellent pass rush and Philly may have written the book on Shanahan.

Pressure the QB constantly and if it turns into a trick run then you give up 7 or 8 yards instead of 3 or 4 but you get to demolish the QB on plays where SF is hoping that a trick will block hesitant pass rushers instead of capable pass blockers  (of which the 49ers have 1 and hope to have a few more)

@hputenis

Hope you and the misses made earlier reservations to Hello, Sailor.

Suppose to be real stormy this evening around 7:30-10.

Our band had to bump up start time today for the evening gig.

God bless Skeletor

One thing for game threads for me is a mix of other comments and bits from social media that can explain injuries etc.  TV coverage is very basic on that regard

If these are real, I take back most of the things I said about the Eagles' attempts at the Kelly Green.  Kelly back, with the silver pants... as it should have always been.  Shame it is a mere 'alternate'.
