I'm sure there will be quite a bit of blood on it considering it'll be in a scary movie

Eagles breakthrough plan

1. Explain the offside penalty to Barnett and why this is not a good thing

2. See if Barnett can beat anybody without timing the snap

3. Accept reality and move on

Derek Barnett: Offside penalties per year

2017 --- 2

2018 --- 2

2019 --- 4

2020 --- 2

2021 --- 2

That's 12 offsides in his 5 seasons he played. Myles Garrett has 14 in his last 5 seasons played. Von Miller had 13 in his last 5 seasons played.

Overall, Barnett had a total of 10 penalties his last 2 seasons he played (2020 and 2021). Landon Dickerson had 13 penalties last season alone.

Listen, I'm not saying Barnett can't do a better job minimizing penalties. I just think his "association" with penalties is blown way out of proportion. Too bad Goodell never told him he "doesn't care how he sacks the QB."

I think he mostly is associated with personal foul/unnecessary conduct type crap. Don’t know where you’re coming up with offside penalties being the main focus. There was literally a shot of Sirianni saying "it’s always him” caught on camera

Now add that to his other penalties and you have a guy who has more penalties than sacks and that's the problem with him.

Garrett has 75 sacks and miller has 50 compared to barnetts 21 in that time span.

It's also timing of those penalties. How many were on a 3rd down stop, how many turned 3rd and long into 3rd and short etc. I'd wager that was the case for a lot of them and that's why people hate him for it

Everybody the 49ers put in to replace an injured starting QB in 2022 was better than the guy he replaced. So, obviously Eason would have been Super Bowl MVP.

Math checks out.

I’m on that list. Never been to a football game. The TV is just better.

If you've never been, you have no basis for comparison.

I've been to many.  In person is just a very different experience compared to watching at home.

Oh well... I guess the 49ers were doomed then.

Agreed. I much rather be at home watching the games these days but, you have to go to at least one game. It's a hell of an experience

I’ve been outside in 40 degree weather and know I would hate it.

I remember watching this one as a youngster. What a moment.

Garrett also played 4,497 snaps. Miller played 3,741. Barnett played 2,602. And that’s the problem with him. He’s rotated and has limited opportunities. And when he does get the opportunity to play, he has a tendency of doing some type of dumb penalty.

Probably from the post I quoted and responded to.

I'm not saying I wouldn't like more sacks or anything. Thus far, he hasn't justified the trade up that was made to draft him. He hasn't been a complete bum, though. He's been solid at worst. A couple of his roughing the passer calls were BS and should have been sacks too. IDK ... I think some people look at him and hate him mostly because of his draft status. If you ignore how a player got here and evaluate him on how he performed within his responsibilities, you might have a more favorable impression of him. I thought he was solid against the run. On most occasions, he reliably set the edge. He never quit on plays (which sometimes leads to a major penalty). I would rather have a guy hustling every play until the whistle and getting 2 or 3 unnecessary roughness penalties in one season, than a guy that quits anytime a play is a few steps away and gives up, making big offensive plays even bigger.

I would rather have the good and the bad from Derek Barnett any season for what he's been paid than get the production we got from Ryan Kerrigan and his 330 snaps in 2021 (3 tackles, 1 TFL, 2 QB hits). Solid is better than invisible.
