EMB Blog: 2023 Camps and Preseason - NO POLITICS

The Eagles' plan at LB is pretty clear. Whether it's a good plan is up for debate.

Either way, I'm happy we moved on from TJ Edwards and Kyzir White.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Average production at a premium price is unwise.  Even if things don’t work out as well as our optimism hopes for, we are more than likely to have no worse than average production at a bargain price.

I'd take Teddy over Marcus 10 out of 10 times.

Whoa!  That is a surprise.

Can someone explain what the issue is here?

Of course I am.

Of course it is.  Hope the OL stays healthy.  Hope that Ringo’s and Dean’s slides aren’t accurate portents for their NFL futures.  Hope the over thirty players don’t fall off a cliff in decline.  Hope Swift and Penny stay healthy.  Hope that Nick can coach against a SuperBowl letdown.

None of that is a plan. Having depth and contingency plans is

Listen some people have the eye of the tiger and some don't.  I do.  I saw it with Hurts.  I saw it with Blankenship.  I saw it with Jurgens.  I saw it with DeVonta.  I see it with Dean.

Well then what the heck are you doing wasting your time on this board mixing it up with us peons???

Better get on the phone quick with howie and tell him about your tiger eyes...🥱

Not sure Mark Jackson narrating a porno does it for me, but hey different strokes for different folks...

I see where you’re coming from. i can relate with the Phillies most of my childhood. They made the playoffs once in 22 years growing up.

I look at it this way, the Eagles likely have a Super Bowl window of 2 to 4 years. I look at safety and linebacker and say they’re not as good as last year right now from just a what have they done in the league standpoint and where guys are in their careers. And there’s a chance they are not better than last year which concerns me. I’m hoping they show out and are good enough. I never root against guys on our team. But definitely is a concern at those positions specifically could be the difference. It’s why if a reasonably priced LB or S became available in trade I’d consider doing it to sure up one of them.

That is indeed one alternative, but that alternative also has opportunity costs … specifically you are stunting the career growth of the young players … possibly permanently.  Chris Carter is an example of what happens if you give up on a player too soon.

With the above said you probably value a Super Bowl win more than I do … and I probably value young player development as the key to sustained excellence more than you do.

The team got mad he talked about how bad they have been against the Rays, so they suspended him. Obviously the team screwed this one up and look like a clown show.

The Angelos family are scum but when you are the owner you can suspend or fire people if you think they are doing a bad job.

He thought the comment was bad (I have no problem with it)

They still have to pay his contract AFAIK but they don't have to put him on the air.

Its thin-skinned Dan Snyder style ownership to be sure.

Except buddy gave up on carter because.carter was a crack addict.

Carter said buddy cutting him saved his life.

So not quite the same but I get the gist.

No way

far too much baggage and drama

100%, and Mariota comes with more than enough drama after quitting on Atlanta last year.  Wentz, thank you for your service but best of luck else where.

I think you can get a young player in a trade to sustain your excellence and win a Super Bowl.

If they maybe do a trade like that of CJGJ last year i think it’s smart type of move cause they got a young promising player back that could’ve been here for a while. Unfortunate they couldn’t get that deal done this offseason. But that trade was a young player that they helped develop more and that helped almost win a SB and could’ve helped sustain excellence if they got a deal done

i think we also disagree on what some of the players on this roster are and aren’t and what they can be.

I personally don't understand the unreasonable hatred for him from some folks (not speaking of you).  I get not wanting to bring him back.  I don't think that would be a very good dynamic.  He can come back in 2027 for the 10 year anniversary.  And when he returns, he should be welcomed back warmly.

*Hyperbole alert*...he's like Andy Reid (we gotta get better there) and Ryan Leaf (uncoachable with an ego) had a love child from what we know.   If the past few years have humbled him and he can be a back up...you can debate it.  I think the people who truly hate him and don't understand the impact he had on our SB are the crowd that wants every QB we've ever had cut.  But the juice is probably not worth the squeeze.

Nope.  Chris Carter is an example of what tough love can do for someone.  Carter himself credits getting cut by Ryan as being the wake up call he needed to get clean.

Ryan didn't give up on Carter.  Ryan did the only thing that would get through to him. Then he called the Vikings and told them about him.

Could you walk me through the time you realized you had a problem. What was the turning point that motivated your recovery journey?

Well, I lost my job. I lost my job in Philadelphia. [The Eagles] released me, and then subsequently the Minnesota Vikings claimed me and they demanded that I get some type of help, so that’s how I got started. It was Labor Day 1990. And then three weeks later I was able to finally be clean of any substance and alcohol, and give up alcohol on the 21st [of the month]. So I mean, after that day, you know I haven’t had a drink. I got involved in the program, got involved in the sobriety community, worked the Steps, and keep very good people around me who can speak into my life and help me and understand like, who I am. I’m going to be in recovery until I die, and I’ll never be cured. So that’s the way my recovery was, how it was handled.

Carter may have been bitter about Ryan cutting him, but years later he would credit his former coach with helping him turn his life around. At his Hall of Fame induction, Carter took time out to thank Ryan for giving him the wake-up-call he needed (via FTW😞

"“Buddy Ryan drafted me, and he tried to grow me up in the league. What Buddy Ryan did was the best thing that ever happened for me when he cut me and told me I couldn’t play for his football team.”"

The team is telling you they are worried about linebacker. The guys they signed are here to compete for starting jobs, not as camp bodies. So I think they are down on Morrow, Dean or both.

What is your source for that assertion?  Howie?  Nick?  Sean?

I forgot this was how we lost our first game of the season.

I honestly don’t even know how to rate how he played with that devastating flukey fumble. You can’t pretend it didn’t happen but it really was just dumb luck.

I never said he was an outstanding athlete either.   But, keep misunderstanding what I did say as much as you want.

He didn’t misunderstand it … he simply skipped over (ignored) it.

Ehh. Mariota can at least run. I don’t think either are good options outside of a spot start.
