No besides randomly tune in to see Spadaro sloppily kiss his new wife in an empty stadium..  Did Sydney Brown look good?

He was hitting anything that moved. Not sure we got to see too much of him in coverage.

Now it all makes sense why I literally laughed out loud when the Saints picked Ian Book in the fourth round last year. As a Notre Dame fan, I had watched the entirety of Book's career and thought he was garbage as an NFL prospect. I also laughed out loud when Book's first career pass in the NFL was picked off for a touchdown.

I also have to chuckle at myself a little bit for having been somewhat intrigued when the Eagles claimed him on waivers last year. At the time I figured, well, maybe they see something there.

But alas, I had been right all along. Book is bad. Not quite Clayton Thorson bad, but pretty bad nonetheless. He has zero pocket presence. As in, none whatsoever. On every dropback, his first instinct is to bail and roll. And while he has some mobility, he can't throw the ball with any accuracy. So basically he's just a guy running around back there with the football without any real ability to do anything with it.

So basically he's horrible.

Fortunately Tanner McKee actually looked pretty good, all things considered. Which is a good thing, I suppose, since I wasn't all that impressed with Mariota.

Had a family obligation tonight and couldn't watch the game live. Was only able to watch a replay later on and whizzed through a lot of it. So I don't have as firm of an opinion as I normally would after a preseason opener.

Lovata did not have a good game, despite the fumble recovery.

What would it cost to drop Mariota?

Tonight was my first impression of Book. My conclusion is the same as yours. He's fortunate teams won't be cutting rosters down for a while and still has 2 preseason games to change minds. I'm not all that confident he'll do that. If he does everything the same but just throws the ball away 3 times, I would consider him twice as good as I currently see him.

I'm just glad we didn't use a pick for him. I just can't for the life of me understand how he was on our 53 man roster last season. I mean, McKee has only had a little OTA time and a dozen practices with the team and he looks like a hopeful prospect. Book has had all of last year + what McKee had this year and this is where he's at? Yikes.

Consider the source, but …

5. All the safety candidates did some good things, and that competition for the second starting spot across from Reid Blankenship is getting really interesting. Terrell Edmunds had a sack and tackle for loss, K’Von Wallace was very active with five tackles, rookie Sydney Brown had four tackles and even Justin Evans – who’s been barely noticeable at training camp – had a couple big hits. I still think Edmunds is the leading candidate, but it’s a crowded field, and none of those guys hurt themselves in Baltimore.

Foles is out there 😉

@HazletonEagle for future reference …

Here is how you can watch the Eagles versus Ravens preseason game with and without cable.

Saturday, August 12th is the date. Showtime is at 7 p.m. EST. For the fifth year in a row, Scott Graham and Ross Tucker handle the call for the good guys. Watch on the following stations.

  • Fox43, WPMT (Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA)
  • ABC 23, WATM (Johnstown-Altoona-State College-DuBois-Bedford, PA)
  • WPMT, Fox43 (Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA)
  • The Ravens broadcast will air on CW Delmarva – 47.2
  • WOLF Fox56 (Wilkes-Barre-Scranton-Hazelton, PA)

No one blitzes in the preseason like the Ravens.

Mariota has to know that.

Mariota know’s this …

It's been a while since I've liked our group 3 deep as much as this.

Look around the league and so many 3rd string operations look really bad. Ours looked "fine" and that's what you want.

I expect Howie to be on the phones looking for LB/draft picks with some of our CBs.

-LB surprised me. If Ellis wraps up and doesn't miss that tackle, that's a play we're still talking about. His read/react and closing speed was something to see. Now FINISH. Morrow looked better than I expected and VanSurren looks like what the Eagles hoped Davion Taylor could have been.

-Been saying it since they traded for him. Swift needs a 3-year extension. He's the real deal. Yes, staying healthy is the issue but sheesh.

-Another thing I've been vocal about is the young CB room. This is going to be one of the nail biting roster decisions. There's no way any of them are clearing waivers so stashing on the practice squad can't be an answer. Maybe one of them even becomes a trade chip. Can any of them cross train at safety?

-I was the biggest anti-Carter guy here but since day 1 he's been proving me wrong. Keep it up baby Jerome.

-I still want an upgrade at TE2.

-There are some WR with really good size who are going to stick around on the PS. I liked Haselwood the most out of the bunch. Another elite talent that you take a gamble that he realizes his potential. Didn't realize he was the #4 recruit going in to his freshman year of ball.

-Sydney Brown is going to be fun to watch. I'm still saying Justin Evans finds a way on to the team. I'd prefer his style of play to Edmunds in todays NFL.

-Like clockwork, an Eagles opponent makes a 60+ yard FG. Reuben Frank needs to do a deep dive in to the percentage of long range field goals attempted/made vs the Eagles compared to the rest of the league.

BTW, you may have overlooked his rookie season with the Saints. He even had a start against us that season.

I think the question is whether Tanner McKee is better than or only as good as Tom Brady.

Is there any question?  Better.  Did you see the clip of him singing... he had the whole team Living on a Prayer.  Superswag.

I didn’t notice Wallace much.  Evans was quick to the ball and did make some big hits.  Brown played well and was all over the field. I dont think it’s that hard. Edmunds should be the choice but give Brown the snaps when they go with a big nickel package.

I’d like to contribute my extensive notes from the game last night.

Carter - nice

Mariota - we will run a pure RPO offense if he has to play

Ringo - rough start, but got better

McKee - Mariota won’t be 2nd string for long

Ojomo - looked good, want to see more of him

Brown - kid flys around, looks like he we will be starting sooner than later.

Ricks - likes to talk crap, will definitely get a few taunting calls

Book - lol

I have a feeling Eagles will keep Ojomo on roster.  He's the type of guy they like to hold on to

Just a couple of odds and ends.

On Swift's 22-yard run, Steen and Stoll wiped out the DE and LB. Swift then left the safety for dead.

Opeta had a rough first half. Several whiffs. Andrews had a whiff too, and a few high snaps.

Steen pulled a number of times. He doesn't have his steps down yet but he can move.

Penny put up 1095 yards at 6.2 a carry and 8 TDs over the last 2 years of actual NFL games.

Trey Sermon looked like he was running in 20 inches of mud.

This is Jamaal Charles in KC vs Lev Bell in KC.

Anyone who is high on Sermon after that game has no concept of evaluating players.

I thought Sermon looked powerful. I was not at all disappointed with him, truth be told.

Looked good and had nice power/push on his TD run.

Not as much the rest of the game but in fairness to him, most of his carries came later, behind the 3rd/4th sting O Line, which was getting man handled throughout the 4th quarter.

Watching the game now. Blah its the sucky ravens broadcast

Didn’t get to watch the game. Can someone give me the lowdown on how Ringo looked? To me he’s the most interesting draft pick we had.

He got beat on some back shoulder fades, but is competitive most reps.

I think Eli Ricks and Mekhi Garner have higher CB1 potential than Ringo. I hope all 3 of them stick around.

Agreed on all points.  He can start looking for homes with other teams for Josiah and Greedy.  The other 9 CBs have earned the right to stay.  Ricks looks like a 2023 versopm of Jobe 2022, and Jobe looks like a solid boundary CB backup ... much improved over 2022 Jobe, and 2022 Jobe wasn't bad at all, just inexperienced.
