Eagles never even took him off the roster page. Looks like he made the 53.

No offense, but that's kinda moronic.

Not offended. But why? He stinks. Eye test tells me that. And his stats do as well. Have a carousel of punters come in til we get that 💩 solved. He gets paid to PUNT.

Arizona is also just a really bad organization.

That's the one, main reason I would take a flier on Simmons. Because of how bad the Cardinals misused Reddick.

So will it be Dean and Cunningham with Elliss coming in on 3rd downs for Cunningham?  I'm still on the Elliss train as I think he will be a very good player.  Or does LB come off completely on 3rd and long with Sydney Brown or Edmunds coming in?

Ellis does everything but wrap up when he tackles. I think he's going to be frustrating to watch where he'll flash and be in the right spot but miss tackles.

Wonder what that means for Dennis kelly.

Fred Johnson has been the hot new name among beats to make the 53. They all had similar phrasing too which makes it seem like it might be a legit source.

From watching the PS games, I didn’t see Wallace make any obvious positioning blunders whereas I clearly saw at least two from Evans in coverage.  He was late on one throw against McPhearson against Cleveland but I suspect that was Cover 1.  Of course all of this presupposes the likely Cover called, which I admit is an assumption. That said, none of the S play blew me away.  I like Brown’s aggression.  While he is a tad slow reacting sometimes, once he reacts, he goes full bore.  He’s a rookie at an instinct driven position and I think that will improve dramatically with some experience.  The "starting” Ss were Wallace and Edmunds in both games.  When Edmunds drops deep, he tends to drop too deep and is a tad late helping CBs.  Wallace is clearly taught to not let anything get behind him which can be a bit tough on a 4.5 corner (McPhearson) playing speed where he was just a tad behind the WR.  Edmunds is excellent in the box.  (Better than Morrow).  (The All22 is painful to watch in PS because the defense is so vanilla.)

That said, I wonder if the "tryouts” aren’t so much for the second S as situational.  In other words, I don’t think it is as simple as Blankenship and XXXX are the Ss as more of a for this type of down, Blankenship and a specific S are the Ss.  There is some risk to that because of knowing what can be relied on from a chemistry perspective.  But Desai will likely disguise the coverage much better than Gannon did.  I could be way off base but only games will tell.

Interesting tidbit, in his TC awards, for UDFA, McMullen picked Garner.  Said he thought Garner outplayed Ricks.  Now in one on ones, the CB tends to take the inside.  That favors Garner and with his size, he is hard to run through.  But I suspect Garner wasn’t playing Allen for most of the summer and the slowness I thought showed in the first two games was somewhat muted by Ward, Covey, Ngata and Haselwood not being speedsters themselves. Would be curious how many reps he had against Quez and how those went.  Garner is shiftier than I thought he would be.

I would agree about J Scott except he played at the end of the games.  I think Goodrich has more agility but is a tad slower than Scott.  Scott is best outside but he just doesn’t have the size for it.

BTW, Jobe looked good in both zone and man.  But Cleveland absolutely left him alone.

For the life of me I don't understand why Blankenship hasn't played a snap and most likely won't heading in to the NE game. Goodness, this is an UDFA who started what 4 games last year?

We should be getting a 3rd round comp pick for Hargrave though.  Along with a few 5th's and a 6th

Right, but we can’t trade them.

I knew I wasn't crazy saying Fred Johnson looked good!

I don't mind guys like that. If you're not a trash talker, then by all means I welcome discussion about an opposing team. Getting a different perspective can be a good thing.

He was nice but then he just kind of stuck around for a long time. It was a bit odd.

Lol I said it only made sense if he was re-signed before the game.

So he's the 8th OL (5 starters + Steen + Driscoll). Do we keep 9, or bet that others like Opeta and Andrews can make it to the PS. I'm thinking we are going with 8 for week 1 in order to keep someone like Ricks.

I'd still be curious what the reasoning was that he had to be released instead of just signing an extension. Maybe because it was a reserve/futures deal?

He'll clear waivers if we want to put him on the PS.

My guess is Opeta or Sills because we don't really have a backup LG. Since Sills has been looking pretty bad I'd guess they keep Opeta and find a way to IR or PS Sills so he can work his way back into shape.

Dennis Kelly probably retires. He's old and there were concerns with his knees or something. Don't see a reason to even waste a PS spot on him.

Some random thoughts from watching the PS All22s so far.

I like VanSumeren better than most on here.  Raw but boy does he play and I thought he showed good lane discipline on STs coverage.

Speaking of STs.  For the love of the football gods (I know it is PS and that players are getting tryouts), can Clay teach dropping and blocking on STs.  It was awful to start the year last year and I swear (taking the football gods’ names in vain) it is worse this PS.  Put on either PS game and the opponents set up blocking.  The Eagles looked haphazard.  Ugh

Quite a battle between Jackson and Robinson for what may be a Practice Squad spot.

I thought Morrow was a tackler.  He seems like Singleton 2.0

What little we saw of N Smith and Carter, that’s going to be fun watching them in real games.

Yet to see Covey run routes.  Greg Ward is the fifth best WR on the team.  Routes looked polished and getting separation with the twos.  The really want Ngata to succeed.  However he needs to use his size better.  No twitch at the end of routes or boxing out.  He is really trying on blocking but he is not better than Calcaterra at this point.  At this point I think Jackson as a fourth TE makes better sense than a sixth WR.  He runs just about as fast as Ngata and uses his size better (albeit Ngata against 2s and Jackson against 3s).

Steen can pull but needs to stay on his feet.  Needs stronger punch with those arms playing LT.

Ojomo is raw.

Vanilla D looks like chaos by the fourth quarter.  I know it is by design and clearly testing players  You can almost see the players running the fundamentals through their minds.  My eyes hurt after watching PS All22.

Oh and Taylor trade is Howie checking price. Fred Johnson was let go early as a gesture to let him attract another team before cutdowns.  Why players like the organization.  Suspicion is he will be back for the practice squad. (Vested vet so that impacts being 53 week one.) (Edit. Contract works too.)

You can, just not until they are officially awarded.

Sills was...not good last week. I think the question is are we confident Opeta would clear waivers and make the PS. Elevate him for a few games, then put him on the 53 later on when a spot opens up.

Opeta cleared waivers last year, so I don't think it would be a problem unless Gannon or Steichen or someone like that who knows him picks him up. Elevation limits are still in place, so they could do that with Opeta but I think they would prefer someone on the 53 since Dickerson has those handful of snaps he misses most weeks.

I think they could play the numbers game with Covey too. He's the type of guy I don't think would get claimed, especially since he hasn't played at all and has been hurt most of camp. They could elevate him for PR and eventually sign him. Between the two of Covey and Opeta, I think Covey would be more likely to clear.

Well, yeah. We’re talking about making a trade for players right now.
