All true … but against backups.  He was able to break contain consistently last night.  I don’t think he will be able to do that and extend plays against starters.

He broke contain until he didn’t but that meant the DE/OLB froze in their pass rush which works in his favor in the passing game.  But unlike Hurts, he didn’t deliver with the passes.  I agree that with the Reddicks, Garretts, TJ Watts, Bosas etc. in this league, the QBs with strong running threats help slow their rush and if coupled with decent passing skills make the QB more effective because he has more time for his receivers to complete routes and get open.  This really isn’t new.  We have seen it with Rodgers and Wilson for decades.  But the QB needs to be a passer first.  Richardson isn’t there yet and my never be.  He remains a project.  Lance should be a project and his status as the 49ers #3 QB after losing last year with injury really is being overblown in the sports media.

Cut Sills, sign Jason Peters. Sucks they missed it last year, but I want Jason Peters to be a yearly thing until he's 50.

I’ll say this about Calcaterra this preseason. It sure seemed like every time the ball was thrown to him, the pass was wildly inaccurate. Fans might downgrade a guy for not making plays, but I have a hunch that the coaches will take that into consideration.

I still prefer him over Jackson.

Mariota was struggling to hit the side of a barn with a pass.  So, the inaccuracies track with Calcaterra's targets.   And the fact that he didn't play last night tells you everything you need to know regarding how the Eagles feel about the battle.

Early in the season through the Bye week you are probably right … Driscoll will be OL6, but it would not surprise me to see that change after the Bye.

Agree.  New information always leads to new conclusions (or at least reevaluations).

Steen might move past Driscoll with more work in the system and with more work with Stoutland.   And if the injury is to Mailata... Steen might be thrown out there first too.

Thoughts on the game...

- Not shocking to see the frustrating shortcomings of Sermon, Book, and Robinson. Teams don't typically give up on draft picks in the top 4 rounds so quickly. Still worth a shot.

- More on Sermon, the foot quickness just isn't there. Tough guy, lots of good qualities, but if he can't come downhill with a full head of steam he's not good.

- Ricks is clearly worth a roster spot. Don't know how more emphatic he could make that point. Bigger question is, is he better right now than Ringo?

- Hardest part about creating a 53 man roster prediction? Bottom roster upside on offense is worse than the defense. Seems like a waste keeping a 5th WR or a 9th OL.

Isn't Murray still recovering from the injury?

Yeah. there was a belief he could be back by midseason after he had the surgery and during his recovery. I think the cardinals know they are gonna be bad and have a shot at no. 1 pick.

The suspense is killing me!

Z … according to @FranklinFldEBUpper

Not sure I'd be comfortable with going with a guy who has 3 career punt returns In the NFL and unless I'm misremembering I don't remember him getting any this pre season either.

Just doesn't seem wise

You saw why he warranted the pick last night.  He has an incredible upside as a QB.  If Steichen gives him simple reads and outlets, he will develop.  He looked accurate to me last night with only a few throws that were high.  His mechanics looked better than I expected.  He seemed decisive.  He looked better to me than what I have seen from either CJ Stroud or Bryce Young.

He was also going against our 3rd stringers and a super vanilla scheme.

So based on yesterday's game, here's where I come out pending any trades.

- I dropped down to 8 OL since I am willing to bet that Opeta, Sills and Andrews will make it to the PS. Opeta would be a gameday elevation while Johnson is deactivated (this year's Sills). It's a gamble to only keep 8 OL, but I can't see any of those 3 being claimed. If Opeta is claimed, Sills steps in.

- Based on Street not dressing last night, I think they plan on keeping him. My guess is the plan is to keep Ojomo on the 53, then move him to IR. Keeping Street leaves them 6 DL until Ojomo is cleared. I think we learned last night that Ojomo won't be ready week 1 and they don't want to put him on season ending IR.

- Patrick Johnson made the team last night, and they need him for special teams.

- 7 CBs is moderately ridiculous, but I don't see any chance of Ricks clearing waivers after how he played against the Colts starters last night. If the team thinks Goodrich can make it to the PS, maybe they cut him and keep a 9th OL. I've never felt this good about our CB depth.

- Yes, I cut Siposs. Once Ojomo goes to IR, they can bring him back or hopefully bring in someone else.

He will... at times.  He will not... at other times.

I don't believe Street not playing had to do with him making the team. They have so many DT they wouldn't need to worry about injury for him because they need him week 1. If anything his contract might have made them not want him to get injured before cutting.

I think ricks right now is better than Ringo and it's pretty obvious to me at least

Question is will Ringo be better than ricks next year?

Ringo has shown pretty poor instincts, he has good size and physical traits but he just seems lost most snaps where as ricks seems to be in the right place more often than not

If they were both udfa guys I'd keep ricks over Ringo in a heart beat.

I'm guessing ringos 4th round draft status makes him a lock🤷‍♂️

I think Goodrich has looked better than Ringo as well, though Goodrich is a nickel I'd think he has a better path to a roster spot after McPherson went down.

Building a roster I'd keep Goodrich over Ringo as well but again Ringo probably makes it over him as a 4th rounder

I hope you're right, as I see no reason to keep him. We only guaranteed him 500k, so would save a little by cutting him. I was just stunned he didn't play last night, so makes me think Ojomo is weeks away.

Unless the team is really down on Sydney Brown, I don’t get the need to trade for a safety. They’re obviously thrilled with Blankenship as one starter and have a decent stop gap in Edmunds and Evans while Brown develops.

It's more that they currently don't have a good #2 safety. If the front 4 dominates, it won't matter...but that won't be the case every week.

One thing worth remembering when assigning players to the PS: they don't HAVE TO sign with another team. They are, in essence, free agents. There is no reason the Eagles can't tell a player that they'll match any offer he may get and that they intend to bring him back to the 53 when the roster shuffling is over. If they do that with, say, Opeta, that drastically reduces the chance that they lose him.

Depends on the player's experience. I believe younger players have to clear waivers and can have their contracts claimed, while veterans become FAs automatically.

EDIT: 4 years is the line

Quote

A player who has accrued less than four years worth of seasons in the NFL is waived. On the other hand a player with four or more accrued seasons is released.

Wonder what Peters would cost

I mean he's going to be a far better backup than the eagles have now but he'd probably ask Howie for 19 mil a year to play 2 games after getting hurt

Love the guy but he just can't stay healthy in Philly for whatever reason ..☹️

Upon further thought. This is what Eagles should do.

Start of season:

1) Covey on IR

Allen gets spot

2) Ojomo on IR

Street gets spot

3) Siposs or unknown punter on PS

Extra spot given to Cornerback. Keep 7. Ricks (will get claimed) & Goodrich in (especially as slot backup with McPherson hurt)

4) 4 Linebackers with Morrow in.  3 LBs is just too light and he's solid depth. And played decently.

5) 4 Safeties

Surprise cut: Maybe Edmunds, but could be Wallace. One of em!

6) 8 offensive linemen kept. Go light.

Opeta, Andrews & Sills on PS

Extra position(s) goes to TE.

a) Tyree Jackson makes it. So 4 tight ends.

b) Patrick Johnson gets in for special teams. And Edge depth with Barnett just coming back.

7) 4 RBs & 5 WRs with Scott & Allen starting the season on roster.

That should get us to 53 with the obvious remaining roster.

Correct, but if they are claimed off waivers... then they are not coming back here.
