@eagle45 up to this point you have given the NFL the attention they deserve (none) for the joke that is now preseason.

Back in the day you could watch week 3 of preseason, see the starters for a half or 3 quarters, and get some kind of feel for the team and players.

Now its just AFL/XFL/CFL level football with practice squad guys and cuts.

We did not learn much more than nothing by paying too much attention the last 6 weeks or so.

You did miss Anthony Richardson go 6 for 17 with his starters against our practice squad and cuts and flex with an Eagle wings mock after scoring a TD.

(like I said, you missed nothing)

Pre-season is fine. The starters get most of their work done in joint practices... save the rest for when it counts. More time to evaluate the guys that they are on the fence on during the pre-season games.

I'm not talking about how the players prepare. I like the idea of joint practices for that purpose.  I just mean that not watching preseason does not make you miss anything.

Whatever 10 or so bullet point training camp and joint practice tweets are relevant can be repeated to people joining us today for the season in about 5 posts.

Just for giggles, I decided to do my nerd duty and "do the research" on all the shanked punts Siposs had last year. It was staggering how often it happened.

First of all, I think it's difficult to determine what is and what is not a shank. A shortish punt from opposing territory might actually have been by design. So I think it's best to go with punts from about the Eagles 45 and behind. Siposs had 36 such punts last year. So what is a shank exactly? I would suggest it's a punt that traveled less than 35 yards and had less than 4.0 hangtime. Does that seem fair? If so, Siposs had exactly ZERO shanked punts last year.

If you want to loosen the restrictions a bit, you could look for punts that traveled less than 40 yards and had 4.0 hangtime. Of the 36 Siposs punts from last year from the Eagles goal line to their 45 yard line, he had exactly ONE shanked punt. It was the final punt in the Super Bowl, a play that we'd have pretty much forgotten if about five guys surrounding Toney had tackled him instead of allowing him to escape for a backbreaking return.

I definitely see a trend though. One out of 36 is telling when it's the final one. One in a row is definitely alarming. Let's get out the pitchforks.

Incidentally Brett Kern had 14 punts last year from the 45 and in. SIX(!) of those were shanks. Again, I assert that people claiming a propensity of bad punts from Siposs are inadvertently attributing the crappy punts of Kern to him.

Whatever.

Thank God they were able to get Greg Ward back.   He's been one of the biggest leaders in the lockerroom and a huge reason why the WR group is as good as it is and is such a tight knit group.

He still has potential as a gunner on STs.  Using a PS spot on him isn’t a substantial investment, and really doesn’t block any other players they might really want.

I'm not interested in developing a 30 year old gunner only. He's not going to make this team if that's all he's going to bring to the table. It's just the PS so it's not something to lose sleep over, but it feels inevitably pointless imo.

I like Greg ward but come on now slow your roll.

If ward wasn't on this team I'm confident In saying the eagles WR duo of AJ and Smitty would still be elite.

Glad ward is back lets not pretend he is more than he is.

It's going to be cool next year when he's in year 8 of his career but still has to go through waivers at the end of camp.

If there was ever a practice squad hall of fame then Greg Ward would be 1st ballot.

I think it really all just stems from the SB. People just want their pound of flesh.

Eagles weren't awarded anyone off waivers.

Only Eagles that were claimed was K'Von Wallace by JG in Arizona and Josh Sills by SS in Indy.

That's what I suggested last week. Sills had the Stoutland "stamp of approval" tattooed for everyone to see. They had kept him on the roster all last year to groom him for the future, and they had done so with a lot of difficulty. Massaging the back end of the active roster was tricky the entire time, with Sills, Sermon, and Book being kept.

It just felt inevitable that he would be snagged if he were exposed. They kept him last year over about four or five other offensive linemen who made active rosters of other teams. And then the whole legal issue happened and it all went to hell for him. But still, you know that Stoutland had liked him and saw something there.

It's disappointing.

As far as Wallace is concerned, meh.

Imagine this scenario. It's late in the season when the Eagles are playing big games. Boston Scott is injured and can't play. We need someone to return kickoffs. We know that Quez sucks at it, so forget him. We could try to have someone simply fair catch some balls but we want more than that. And the opposing team might force returns by hitting line drives. Why not activate Allen, let him return some kicks and also run down the field on punts? I honestly don't see much downside to this, and in fact I can even envision him making some plays that could contribute to winning games.

There's almost no downside to putting Allen on the practice squad, in my opinion.

What's comical is that there is someone on this site who has argued repeatedly that DeVonta Smith is no better than Greg Ward but only puts up good numbers because he's had more opportunity to do so.

Gonna be really irritated if renfroe is claimed later today and he hits a 2 run bomb against us

Do you dispute that he is a leader and a positive in the locker room?  Frankly, Ward was one of the best receivers for the Eagles in the PS.  Cain had a few too many drops.  I did see some positives for,Cleveland.  Note the Eagles releases Cleveland with an injury settlement from the IR at cutdown.  I think that allows them to resign him after the settlement period.  Might see him on the PS again.

Tyrese Robinson to Vikings.
