I'm a bit late to this discussion but I think this was the post that broached the subject.

You all have a problem: you're not old enough. It takes a geezer like me to point out that the terminology you're wrestling with goes back to the single wing which, I confess, I even played, for one year. Here is the basic formation, with some caveats.

Single-wing formation

Note the unbalanced line. Note also that the quarterback is not under center. He is, in fact, a blocking back and almost never touches the ball. He is called the QUARTERback because he is a quarter of the way back to the deepest back, who is the FULLback. This graphic is not perfect because the player labelled here as the tailback normally lined up slightly ahead of the FULLback and because he was halfway back to the deepest back, was called the HALFback. The terminology in this graphic is modern, not the original terminology. The WINGback was lined up outside the end, on the wing. He too was primarily a blocker.

You're not quite right.   The T formation is actually older than the Single Wing.

T formation is Quarterback,  Fullback,  Left Halfback, Right Halfback.

T formation existed,  maybe 1920,  apparently the Bears used it then, and never went to the Single Wing.  Single Wing - which you described well - later 20s,  ruled the 30s,  and was around, in modified form,  with some teams,  in the 40s.

Famous game,  T formation Bears with Sid Luckman vs Single Wing Redskins with Sammy Baugh.  1940 NFL Championship game.  Bears win 73-0.  It was said that this game was the one that killed the Single Wing.  But there were still some single wing teams after the Redskins lost.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1940_NFL_Championship_Game

Youtube has some good, clear, color film of single wing teams.  Interesting stuff,  I occasionally go back to look at it.  I guess someone affiliated with the Lions had a nice camera,  because both games had the Lions in them.    The Single Wing of the Lions in the 40s is closer to contemporary football than the T formation is.

Single wing was basically shotgun snaps,  T formation was under center, and these days there's more shotgun than under center.

You'll see blocking back / quarterback here as well as wingback.

If you'd have told me at the end of July that Turner would like end the year with somewhere in the neighborhood of 25 homeruns, I'd have told you to get your brain checked.  Crazy what he's doing this month.

What's comical is that there is someone on this site who has argued repeatedly that DeVonta Smith is no better than Greg Ward but only puts up good numbers because he's had more opportunity to do so.

Say what???

That's crazy talk.

I follow a few different eagles pages on Facebook and I read a comment yesterday that says ward just needs to be given a chance.

A chance??? Dudes been given multiple chances over the year as a starting WR and a starting PR.

Ward asca starter makes James Thrash look all pro, as a PR he was horrid.

I really like Greg ward but he's been what he is for a few seasons now and if one needs to see more of him to get a better evaluation than one isn't looking with ones eyes.

Continuing the Sills/OL discussion...

Julian Good-Jones was here during camp three years ago.  Didn't get to stick around.  Went off to the CFL for two seasons.  Participated in an Eagles' try out this past January and was brought back on a futures contract.  Someone to keep an eye on.

This is shocking.. its almost like there were some people saying this was going to happen.  Well done @FranklinFldEBUpper.

If the Eagles decide to elevate Covey and/or Siposs they can only do it 3 games before having to bring onto the 53, correct?

Do you dispute that he is a leader and a positive in the locker room?  Frankly, Ward was one of the best receivers for the Eagles in the PS.  Cain had a few too many drops.  I did see some positives for,Cleveland.  Note the Eagles releases Cleveland with an injury settlement from the IR at cutdown.  I think that allows them to resign him after the settlement period.  Might see him on the PS again.

Nope don't dispute that Greg ward is a positive locker room influence and team leader and I'm glad he's back, and one doesn't elevate him to the active roster or give him snaps because he's a positive influence in the locker room.

I mean if that's all we're looking for to get guys on the field where's Tebow these days, why isn't he on a roster?

Oh that's right because Like ward he's not good enough on the field.

Greg ward is a valuable guy to have on the PS I'm glad he's back and he'll be a benefit to the WR room going forward and if some one gets hurt I'm fine with him getting elevated and getting some snaps but if not the best place for him  where he is the most useful is on the PS.

Correct. A player can only be elevated 3 times total during the season.

31 teams were like Siposs is available? No we're good

I don't get what they see in toth?

Siposs on it🤮

Kyron Johnson and Vansumeren are good bring backs, still young lots of room for development

I like Brady Russell as a practice squad guy, he's a grinder
