Surtain is also:

23

#9 overall

still has a year left on his rookie deal plus a 5th year option.

And he’s been everything they could want him to be. I honestly don’t think he gets traded because it’s not going to make sense for Denver to do it unless it’s a kings ransom. He’s perfect for them to build around.

Based off everything you put out there, what is likely going to cost the Eagles is a first round pick in 2024, a first rounder in 2025 and likely a young player such as Sydney brown or Milton Williams to get it done. Even that considering the eagles firsts at the end of the round the next two years likely isn’t enough to move a 23 year old corner in a rebuild or not

It doesn’t seem like Penny is destined to be on this team in a few weeks

It'll be funny when they trade him and he performs on his new team while we struggle with any running back not named swift. There's no excuse for him not playing

Us poors sell stupid clutter at yard sales. NFL players do the same just SB rings and jerseys.

Confusing case

He signed with Eagles for the vet minimum and they chose not to play him.  I think it's obvious his value in fan's minds doesn't match the leagues perception

Not to mention a better player became available later on for a reasonable price

The replies are all pretty much the same

Its not irrelevant to Denver

Yes, it is.

It’s the same reason the 9ers traded Trey Lance for a 4th.

Where you were drafted is irrelevant. In economics this is literally called "the sunk cost fallacy.”

What you paid for something is irrelevant. All that matters is how well the player is playing.

Having the 5th year option probably helps in trade value though.   A player drafted after the 1st round wouldn't have that.

Agreed. You get 2.5 years cost controlled.

He may be my least favorite eagle ever. Couldn’t stand his "morally superior” aura

Nope.

49ers traded Trey Lance because he sucked. Eagles traded Jalen Reagor because he sucked. Surtain doesn’t suck. Sunk cost fallacy is irrelevant when it comes to Surtain because there literally is not a sunk cost. He is good and because they spent a premium on him, they will demand compensation that will make sense for them. They are not going to burn that pick, have him be a stud, just to trade him at a discount.

When they are in trade negotiations they will absolutely use it as leverage and say "look, we spent a premium asset on him and he’s lived up to expectations. Make an offer that makes sense.” And if the offer is a lowball they laugh and hang up the phone. The whole point of sunk cost fallacy is abandonment is a better option than holding onto an asset. That couldn’t be further from the truth for Denver and Surtain.

@hputenis tried to sell his bed sheets on eBay. @Godfather love stains and all
