Cowboy fans are now full of themselves thinking they are the team to beat.

After week 1, sure.  They might have been the most impressive, at least defensively.

Good thing everyone plays 17.

Probably you. There were some good things on special teams (Elliott, Siposs, Covey, and the big hits by Brown and Jobe) for sure, but it was also a unit that allowed one big punt return, one big kickoff return, and had to burn two timeouts because they didn’t know who should actually be on the field. And we missed a PAT.

I still have no faith in our coordinator.

Yup Clay has shown time and time again that he's kind of clueless, the punt coverage and punting were an improvement for at least one game

I'm still scratching my head over why clay was extended, he's been trash since he's been here

So Dean to miss multiple games with a foot injury but no surgery necessary.

Wonder what the injury is?

Sucks to see him hurt after 1 game.

Since SB52, my mindset changed forever. I expect to win.  Even when losing or sloppy or bad calls or all of the above.  But in reality what I (we as fans) think is irrelevant.  The reality is that the players and coaches have been resilient and solid, even when the chips are down.  Impressive mentality across two coaching staffs.

True, even though both Doug and Nick got some flak for playcalling at times both are aggressive coaches to a point where sometimes my mouth is gaping open thinking: They do whaaaaaat???! (usually on fourth and not really short, in really risky field positions) 😁

But honestly, I love that. It feels like we get these done a lot more often than not.

Oh yeah, and the gritty fight part too of course.

Because of what happened with the Eagles post 2017 when everyone blamed the loss of Reich and JDF(turned out that wasn't the problem, it was just that Wentz sucked and Foles sucked too and had a fluky run). Everyone is going to blame Brian Johnson whenever the offense doesn't click 100% this season and it's going to be insufferable.

What people need to understand is Johnson calls and chooses plays based on the framework of what Sirianni wants to do. Like yesterday on the 3rd and 20 draw, Johnson calls a draw because he knows Sirianni wants something conservative there. Johnson picks what conservative play to pick, but the idea that the Eagles weren't going to try something down field there is Sirianni's decision, not Johnson's.

But Johnson is the newcomer and Sirianni has built up equity with his success, everyone piles on the low hanging fruit, and it's really unfair.

And on the other side of the ball, you have a brand new DC tasked to scheme around a middle of the defense that was frankly neglected by Howie this season. But I don't suspect Desai will get as much piling on as Johnson on rough nights because of the Gannon effect.

Will be defending both this season early and often.

The fact there seems to have been confusion in the secondary from some X postings on here tells me Desai and his coaches need to do a much better job. You are right he's got a tall task when none of his LB and one safety can't do their jobs in coverage.

It's hard for Howie to fill every hole but when you look at the Cowboys and 49ers their LB play is a big part of why they are so good. You don't have to have studs across the board but one could do wonders to take them to an even higher level. Outside of Dean they pretty much have slop. That's nuts to me. Maybe they thought Dean was that guy but durability was already a concern there. I don't know who's going to be available now but it's a shame he couldn't have addressed it.

Foot or ankle strain, probably.   Just lucky he didn't blow anything out.

What’s the latest fine print on IR?  (How long you have to be on it and how many players can be released from it).

4 weeks

Midfoot sprain would be my guess.  Just needs stabilization and time to heal as long as there's no fracture or fully torn ligament. Timeline would make sense.

But that's just a guess.

Aren’t we limited to only two call ups from the PS per week? If so, that has to be Siposs and Covey, although maybe just maybe you can get by with OZ or Jobe or even DeVonta back there and sit Covey for a week.

Yes, only allowed two, which is why I said Dean to IR might be needed to call someone up from the PS since we essentially need 3 players. I wouldn’t put Zaccheus back there and obviously we need a punter. With Dean out, we have only two true LBs available against a team that likes to play two TEs.

I think the good news for Thursday game would be no one can probably get poached after today so you have all your options opened to you.

Could be that,  which could technically still be a lis franc as well.  Could be a fracture...

Lots of possibilities.

I'd guess ankle high ankle sprain...

Dean looked ok,like I thought he would he got abused in coverage .

He was pretty bad in coverage at Georgia and they made up for that by blitzing him quite a bit.

He just lacks the length to cover taller guys like gesicki.

I have no objection to it, but let me give @Moderator12 and @Moderator6 a chance to weigh in if they wish to.

If it's not a problem technology wise, go for it.

Lis franc would be a season ender, which this doesnt seem to be

To be fair they all looked confused in coverage with what NE was doing CBs, Safeties, LBs the whole lot. They haven't quite picked up what to do in certain scenarios with Desai's scheme. NE just exposed it. Now he has to coach them up and I'll be looking for some improvement come Thursday. Not major improvement but some. They're all still learning.

so quick takes:

1) Our secondary seemed confused a lot during this game... sloppy? Mental errors.

2) Felt like BB took Desai and Hurts to school with the zone defense they were mostly playing....

3) Felt we were lucky to get the two turnovers

4) It's early yet- no panic, just not good that our offense barely did much with all the firepower- and the secondary was swiss cheese. And it's a short week to get ready for the Vikings. and JJ

Member when Slay locked up Justin Jefferson last year?  I member :)

Desai is at a particular disadvantage because of the minimalist training camp and practice schedule which helps injuries but isn't great for installing a new defense

He has 4 weeks to get it together IMO :) Plenty of time.

Assuming Bradberry and Cox miss the game this Thursday, I'd like to see them dress Goodrich and Penny. Gainwell is a nice complimentary piece, but I feel like we need Penny as a bigger back at times.

But dooode, didn’t you see the Cowboys last night? How can you not have them at number one? How can you even imagine the Eagles beating them once?

[dallasthink] #1 with a rocket. Other teams should just forfeit to save getting embarrassed.[/dallasthink]

🤣🤣🤣

In NYG's case that might actually be true.

If Dean goes on IR there literally might not be a LB on the Eagles 53 that would be given a roster spot on any other NFL team. Kind of scary thought.

Yup the two games are obviously comparable. New England's Defense is clearly no better than Detroit's last year. The weather in the dome yesterday was awesome also.

You are thinking granualarly.  That is 100% valid, but it isn't the "ebb and flow of the game" perspective that was at the center of my comparison.  I accept the fact that I may be the only person who saw the game that way.
